  • Comprehensive inspection is selected when the source rules require emissions testing by region, age, fuel, and use type.
  • Late inspection penalties start at KRW 40,000, add KRW 20,000 every 3 days after day 30, and cap at KRW 600,000.
  • Public TS stations use the base Korean inspection fee table plus VAT.
  • This is in the operation-stop risk band; uninspected vehicle operation can trigger enforcement.

Korean vehicle inspection fee, cycle, and late-penalty calculator

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean won amounts, statutory thresholds, tax rates, fee tables, vehicle categories, and operating assumptions used by the source page.

Inspection type and fee table

The inspection calculator follows the Korean Motor Vehicle Management Act cycle and fee logic. It determines periodic inspection versus comprehensive inspection by vehicle type, use type, fuel, age, and air-management-zone region. Electric and hydrogen vehicles are exempt from emissions inspection and use the periodic inspection path.

The direct TS fee table is preserved before VAT. Periodic inspection fees are KRW 17,000, KRW 23,000, KRW 26,500, and KRW 29,000 by inspection size. Comprehensive load-test fees are KRW 48,000, KRW 54,000, KRW 56,500, and KRW 65,000. VAT is 10 percent, and private station surcharge is KRW 7,000.

  • Comprehensive load test is KD-147 and applies to the relevant diesel cases.
  • Comprehensive no-load test is ASM2525 and applies to gasoline, LPG, hybrid, or load-test-ineligible cases.
  • Private designated repair stations can be convenient for same-site repair and reinspection, but the fee path is higher.

Cycle and penalty

Inspection cycles range from 4 years for the first private passenger inspection to 6 months for older commercial buses, trucks, and special vehicles. The inspection window is 31 days before and 31 days after the due date, and using that window keeps the next cycle anchored to the original expiry date.

Late penalty starts at KRW 40,000 within the first 30 days after expiry. After day 30, KRW 20,000 is added every 3 days, with maximum KRW 600,000. If a vehicle remains uninspected after reaching the enforcement stage, operation-stop orders and a KRW 300,000 fine risk are noted in the Korean guide.

  • A new private passenger car first registered on May 1, 2026 has a first due date around May 1, 2030, within the plus or minus 31-day window.
  • A diesel car in Seoul after the relevant age threshold can be routed to comprehensive load inspection.
  • Failed inspection can usually be rechecked once for free within 10 days after repairing the defect.
