Korean car maintenance cost by fuel, tax, insurance, parking, toll, and washing

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean won amounts, statutory thresholds, tax rates, fee tables, vehicle categories, and operating assumptions used by the source page.

Annual cost categories

The maintenance calculator covers seven recurring ownership categories: fuel or charging, vehicle tax, insurance, maintenance and consumables, parking, highway toll, and car wash. It is built for Korean 2026 assumptions and can compare gasoline, diesel, LPG, hybrid, and EV use under the same annual mileage and driving environment.

Fuel prices are gasoline KRW 1,680 per liter, diesel KRW 1,550 per liter, LPG KRW 1,050 per liter, and EV charging KRW 310 per kWh. Vehicle tax uses cc tax rates KRW 80, KRW 140, and KRW 200 by displacement bracket, plus local education tax 30 percent. EV tax is KRW 100,000 plus KRW 30,000 local education tax.

  • The calculator asks annual insurance directly because driver age, vehicle value, coverage, and claim history move insurance more than a generic table.
  • Parking can include monthly fixed parking and separate paid-parking visits.
  • The 10-year projection applies fuel rises 3 percent and insurance rises 2 percent each year.

Maintenance items and savings interpretation

Consumables preserve the Korean source defaults. Engine oil is KRW 100,000 per change, tire sets are KRW 320,000 for small, KRW 480,000 for mid-size, and KRW 640,000 for large. Oil-change interval can be 5,000 km, 7,500 km, 10,000 km, or 15,000 km, and tire-change interval can be 30,000 km, 40,000 km, or 50,000 km.

Car wash cost is modeled separately: self wash KRW 5,000, automatic wash KRW 8,000, and hand wash KRW 25,000. EV maintenance factor is 0.4, so EV maintenance and consumables are estimated at 40 percent of the comparable internal-combustion burden, while EV insurance can still be higher in real life.

  • A mid-size gasoline vehicle around 2,000 cc and 15,000 km per year often lands around KRW 300,000 to KRW 400,000 per month in the Korean guide.
  • EVs usually save on charging, vehicle tax, and maintenance, but total cost should still include insurance and parking.
  • January annual vehicle-tax prepayment can reduce tax by about 4.58 percent under the Korean tip section.
