Korean lemon-law exchange or refund calculation

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean rates, thresholds, statutory periods, and insurance assumptions used by the source page.

Statutory window and defect repetition

Korea lemon-law eligibility is checked against the first defect date. The source model uses a 365 days period limit from delivery and a 20,000 km mileage limit at first defect occurrence.

For a major safety defect, the model requires at least 2 repair attempts for the same defect. For an ordinary defect, it requires at least 3 repair attempts. A separate duration rule can qualify the case if cumulative repair days exceed 30 days after at least one repair.

  • The default example uses delivery date September 1, 2025 and defect date November 15, 2025.
  • The UI reports both days remaining and mileage remaining in the eligibility window.
  • The verdict can be qualified, qualified by duration, outside window, or repair-short.

Refund formula and usage deduction

The refund path subtracts usage profit from the purchase price, then adds incidental acquisition and registration costs. Usage profit is based on current mileage divided by the 150,000 km standard mileage in the Korean source.

Exchange value is shown separately because exchange does not use the same mileage deduction in the model. When both are available, the calculator can show why exchange may be economically better than refund.
