Korean used-car purchase total-cost calculation

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean rates, thresholds, vehicle classifications, and administrative assumptions used by the source page.

Taxes, bond cost, registration, and dealer items

The Korean total-cost calculator begins with purchase price and then adds acquisition tax, regional public-bond cash cost, registration license tax, stamp duty, certificate or seal duty, license plate cost, agency fee, dealer commission, inspection fee, insurance premium, and installment interest when financing is selected.

Acquisition tax follows the Korean vehicle category logic: passenger cars generally use 7 percent, light cars use a 4 percent calculation with a KRW 750,000 light-car exemption cap, commercial categories use their own rates, and electric vehicles can receive up to KRW 1.4 million of acquisition-tax relief.

  • Dealer commission is calculated from purchase channel, not from a universal fee.
  • Insurance premium changes by driver age, driving experience, accident history, and vehicle age.
  • The additional-cost ratio divides non-price costs by purchase price.

Cash versus installment and dealer versus private

If installment is selected, the calculator creates a monthly payment and total-interest estimate from installment principal, annual rate, and period. It also compares multiple installment periods so the user can see the tradeoff between monthly payment and total interest.

Dealer and private-party channels are compared with different commission, inspection, and included-service assumptions. That is why a lower private sale price can still require a separate check of registration, inspection, insurance, and agency handling costs.
