This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean won amounts, statutory thresholds, vehicle categories, penalty rates, subsidy caps, and administrative assumptions used by the source page.

Repair table and multipliers

The source model separates exterior panels, engine and transmission work, consumables, and glass. For a domestic midsize benchmark, a front or rear bumper is modeled around KRW 135,000 for minor repair, KRW 240,000 for dent repair plus paint, and KRW 400,000 for replacement plus paint. A front door is around KRW 150,000, KRW 310,000, or KRW 650,000 by the same damage levels, and a roof replacement can reach about KRW 1.2 million.

Imported vehicles are not treated as a flat surcharge. Parts are multiplied by 2.5 and labor by 1.8, vehicle grade changes both parts and labor, and shop type applies 1.3 for an authorized service center, 1.0 for a general repair shop, and 0.85 for a franchise chain. Parts for 11-year-or-older vehicles use a 1.20 age multiplier.

  • Engine oil is modeled as KRW 30,000 labor plus KRW 70,000 parts.
  • Four tires use KRW 10,000 labor and KRW 80,000 parts per tire.
  • Transmission repair is modeled around KRW 1 million, and remanufactured transmission replacement around KRW 2.8 million.
  • General windshield replacement uses KRW 100,000 labor plus KRW 250,000 parts, while a HUD windshield uses KRW 600,000 parts.

Self-pay versus insurance claim

The insurance comparison keeps the Korean automobile-insurance discount grade table. When a claim is compared with self-pay, the source model applies a KRW 200,000 own-damage deductible, moves the discount grade by 4 grades, and compares the expected premium difference over 3 years.

Premiums in the comparison grow by 3 percent per year. The result is therefore not only the repair invoice; it is repair amount versus deductible plus the 3-year premium effect. This is why small repairs below about KRW 500,000 often need a separate self-pay review.
