Korean diminished-value accident claim

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean rates, thresholds, statutory periods, and insurance assumptions used by the source page.

Insurance-standard diminished value

The Korean source first checks the insurance-standard diminished-value path. The repair cost must exceed 20 percent of the pre-accident vehicle value, the vehicle must generally be within 5 years of release, and the recovery is reduced by the claimant fault ratio.

The insurance-standard amount is then compared with a possible civil-law additional claim for structural damage. The English calculator shows both the insurance-standard recovery and the midpoint additional claim.

  • Default vehicle value is KRW 25 million and default repair cost is KRW 7 million.
  • The default age is 18 months, which is inside the 5 years insurance-standard window.
  • The result includes repair-to-value ratio and recoverable fault-adjusted ratio.

Civil claim and appraisal economics

For serious structural damage, the Korean model estimates a civil diminished-value range using damage severity, age factor, and repair-cost weight. Civil recognition becomes weaker after 10 years, and claimant fault of 50 percent or more reduces practical recovery.

The source model uses an estimated appraisal fee of KRW 600,000. The English result therefore shows both additional claim midpoint and net amount after the appraisal fee.
