Korean KTX, SRT, and express bus fare comparison

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean won amounts, statutory thresholds, tax rates, fee tables, vehicle categories, and operating assumptions used by the source page.

Fare table and route coverage

The Korean fare calculator compares Seoul-area KTX, SRT, and express bus options for major intercity routes such as Busan, Dongdaegu, Daejeon, Cheonan-Asan, Gwangju Songjeong, Mokpo, Jeonju, Yeosu Expo, Gangneung, and Pohang. It calculates adults, children, one-way or round trip, night express-bus surcharge, and optional time-value cost.

The 2026 source table keeps Seoul to Busan KTX standard fare is KRW 59,800, SRT KRW 52,600, and deluxe bus KRW 41,400. KTX first class surcharge is 40 percent, SRT first class surcharge is 45 percent, child discount is 50 percent, and night express-bus surcharge is 20 percent.

  • KTX Honam and Jeolla routes depart from Yongsan Station, while Gyeongbu, Gangneung, and Donghae lines use Seoul Station in the guide.
  • SRT departs from Suseo Station and does not cover every KTX destination.
  • Express bus terminals differ by corridor, including Seoul Gyeongbu Terminal, Central City Terminal, and Dong Seoul Terminal.

Time value and 2026 fare caution

The calculator can add opportunity cost of travel time. The default hourly wage is KRW 10,320, the 2026 minimum-wage assumption in the Korean source. When time value is enabled, a train with higher fare can become the best value if it saves enough hours compared with the bus.

The source constants warn that a KTX fare increase of 17 percent was still phased or unconfirmed as of May 2026, so the data uses the frozen fare basis. They also note that Suseo KTX about 10 percent lower fare treatment began for selected Suseo departure and arrival KTX services in April 2026. Final booking should still be checked with Korail, SRT, or the express-bus booking site.

  • Children aged 6 to 12 are calculated at 50 percent of adult fare.
  • Night surcharge applies only to express bus in the model.
  • The result summarizes cheapest fare, fastest one-way option, and best value including time cost.
