What is the overseas travel cost comparison calculator?

This calculator compares travel cost across up to 4 countries for 1 to 30 nights and 1 to 10 people. It supports budget, standard, and luxury travel styles, and can include airfare so short-haul and long-haul destinations are compared on the same basis.

Value score

The value score is out of 100. Cost score contributes 80 points and satisfaction adjustment contributes 20 points. A score of 70 or higher is excellent, 40 to 70 is normal, and below 40 is expensive.

Source scenarios and 2026 travel trends

Comparison examples

  • For a 4-night, 5-day Southeast Asia trip for 2 people in standard style with airfare, Bangkok is about KRW 1,150,000, Hanoi about KRW 850,000, and Cebu about KRW 1,000,000.
  • In that example, Hanoi is about 30% cheaper than Bangkok because lodging and food costs are lower.
  • For 5 nights and 6 days, 2 people, Paris airfare is around KRW 900,000 while Tokyo airfare is around KRW 300,000, creating a KRW 600,000 airfare gap.
  • For a luxury honeymoon, 5 nights and 6 days for 2 people in the Maldives can exceed KRW 6,000,000 because a water villa can cost more than KRW 700,000 per night.

2026 assumptions

  • The source uses April 2026 exchange rates, average airfare, hotel booking-site prices, and local price indices.
  • The weak yen continues, with KRW/JPY in the 9-won range, so the same budget can buy more than 30% more than 3 to 4 years earlier.
  • Travel cards with near-zero overseas payment fees are now common.
  • Long-haul LCC routes to Europe and the United States are expanding.

Region guide and saving tips

Regional cost structure

  • Northeast Asia airfare is commonly KRW 200,000 to 300,000, with 2 to 4 hour flights.
  • Southeast Asia lodging, food, and local transport are often 50% to 70% cheaper than Korea; Vietnamese pho can be about KRW 2,000.
  • Europe often has airfare around KRW 800,000 to 1,000,000, which is the largest cost component.
  • Guam has about a 4-hour flight time, making it different from both long-haul Europe and short-haul Japan.

Budget control

  • Book airfare 60 to 90 days, or about 2 to 3 months, before departure when possible.
  • Off-season months such as January to February, May except holidays, and September to November can save 30% to 50% versus peak July to August and December.
  • Local markets and street food can be 50% to 70% cheaper than tourist restaurants.
  • Peak season can add 20% to 50% to total cost, so the same destination can change value score sharply by date.
