Korea Island Resident Ferry Passenger & Vehicle Monthly Budget Calculator

Check Korean 2026 residence, route and vehicle support facts, then compare household monthly reserves, passenger copay caps, age-specific issuer quotes, local top-ups and vehicle-shipping costs.

Korean 2026 basic support · sources reviewed 2026-10-26

Initial fares and trip counts are fictional examples. Replace them with actual quotes. Unconfirmed support is retained in the reserve. Calculate separately for family members with different residence dates or conditions.

1. Residence, route and policy

Calendar dates check the 30-day residence period. Ask the issuer about Jeju main-island / bridge exclusions and same-jurisdiction island journeys. Split periods when eligibility or fares change.

2. Monthly outbound and return schedule

Outbound

Return

Four round trips mean four outbound plus four return trips. All passenger groups share this schedule. Enter terminal, fuel, cabin and other separately confirmed non-subsidized charges as extra fees. If a vehicle quote includes the driver, remove duplicate passenger charges.

3. Passenger groups and age discounts

Adult

Senior

School-age child

Preschool

Age alone does not determine senior, child or preschool fares. Obtain the operator-discounted fare before public support and the fare after basic support. Confirm zero fares explicitly.

4. Vehicle and local top-ups

Do not classify an EV as light by its zero engine displacement. Use its approved band. Passenger copay caps do not apply to vehicles. Local top-ups require a source and stacking confirmation and cannot exceed the remaining fare.

Monthly budget from entered facts

Only support with confirmed inputs reduces the reserve. Unconfirmed items retain their pre-support fare. This is not an official authorization.

Why passenger and vehicle fares need separate budgets

Island households may need both passenger tickets and vehicle shipping for medical appointments or shopping on the mainland.
Their support formulas differ, so treating a passenger copay ceiling as a vehicle limit can create a large shortfall.
This tool combines entered fares, residence and route facts, and vehicle registration checks into a monthly cash budget.

Compare taking a vehicle every time with shipping it only on shopping days, while keeping the household’s passenger schedule identical.
This is a Korea-specific calculator using 2026 guidance, reviewed 2026-10-26.
Confirmed-input support reduces the reserve; unconfirmed support appears only in a separate conditional scenario when the formula is known.

Verified scope and residence checks

Source review: 2026-10-26

The Gangnam welfare guidance dated 2026-08-25 describes at least 30 elapsed days of registered island residence.
Check exclusions such as Jeju main-island residence and bridge-connected islands with the actual issuer, including any applicable local exceptions.
The calculator does not decide a particular island’s legal status from its name.

Enter the registered island, ports, operator or route, policy notice and review date.
Confirm that both directions qualify through a home-island call or eligible travel between islands in the same jurisdiction.
These fields record user-verified facts; they do not query residence records or a ferry database.
Keep resident support separate from tourist promotions and subsidies for other local residents.

Passenger fare bands

One-way adult regular fares and basic-support copays in KRW
Regular fareCopay after basic support
Below 8,34050% of regular fare
8,340 through 30,0005,000
Over 30,000 through 50,0006,000
Over 50,0007,000

These bands apply to the adult regular-fare mode.
Budget rounding gives a copay of 4,170 at a fare of 8,339, while exactly 8,340 gives 5,000.
Exactly 30,000 stays in the 5,000 band; 30,001 gives 6,000.
Exactly 50,000 gives 6,000; 50,001 gives 7,000.
Fractional KRW is rounded upward for reserve planning, rather than presented as a statutory ticket-rounding rule.
Use issuer-confirmed quotes when actual ticket rounding differs.

Senior, child, preschool and operator discounts

Before public support

Enter the fare after the operator’s own discounts but before resident public support.
This is also the comparison baseline, so children are not all priced at an adult regular fare to inflate savings.

After basic support

Enter the issuer-confirmed fare after basic resident support and before any separately entered local top-up.
It must not exceed the before-support quote.
A zero quote is valid only when free travel has actually been confirmed.

Senior, school-age and preschool groups use this quote method rather than an invented age-discount percentage.
Adults with operator discounts may use it too.
Confirm the before-and-after amounts and their interaction with other discounts, rather than subtracting the same benefit again.
A group must share the same residence conditions, registration and travel schedule; calculate separately for household members who do not.

Vehicle support: class-based percentages

  • Confirmed light passenger vehicle or truck below 5 tonnes maximum payload: 50%
  • Confirmed small passenger vehicle: 30%
  • Other passenger vehicle or van: 20%
  • Unconfirmed class: keep the pre-support fare in the reserve

The MOF expansion effective 2019-01-01 described 50% for qualifying light passenger vehicles below 1,000cc and 30% for small vehicles below 1,600cc.
Size and registered classification also matter, so displacement alone does not replace issuer approval.
Do not generalize historical domestic-car, 2,500cc or 15-seat restrictions into universal current limits.
An electric vehicle’s zero displacement does not automatically qualify it as light; select its approved size band.

The truck threshold concerns maximum payload, not empty vehicle weight or the load carried that day.
A 4.999-tonne truck is inside this model’s band, while exactly 5 tonnes is excluded.
Confirm 100% resident ownership, non-commercial use, prior vehicle support registration, owner travel and supported trips remaining.
Passenger copay caps never limit the vehicle fare.

Monthly formulas and separate fees

Basic passenger support = before-support fare − basic copay
Local top-up = min(remaining basic copay, confirmed top-up)
Monthly passengers = Σ people × one-way trips × (final copay + passenger fee)
Monthly vehicle = Σ shipments × (vehicle copay + vehicle fee)
Monthly reserve = monthly passengers + monthly vehicle

For a vehicle, apply its class percentage to the vehicle fare and multiply by shipments without multiplying by passengers again.
Household one-way trips and passenger counts are separate inputs.
Ask the operator which terminal charges, fuel surcharges, accommodation differences or other fees fall outside the subsidized fare before entering them separately.
If a vehicle quote already includes the driver’s passenger ticket, remove the duplicate charge from the passenger side.
The output table shows per-unit fares and support, then the monthly total in its final column.

Step-by-step input checks

  1. Record the registered island, actual ports, notice and check date, using the same residence date only for household members who share it.
  2. Enter residence registration and the first travel date of the month; 29 and 30 elapsed days differ.
  3. Enter outbound and return fares and counts independently: four round trips means four in each direction.
  4. Check every passenger’s registration and obtain separate before-and-after quotes for operator or age discounts.
  5. Confirm the vehicle class, shipments, ownership, registration and owner-travel or quota conditions.
  6. Add only verified local top-ups and save the reserve together with outstanding checks.

The model assumes all trips retain the entered eligibility and fares.
Split the month into separate calculations when residence eligibility, notices or fares change.
Also split calculations when family members travel on different schedules or a return date falls under different policy terms.

Worked fictional example: two adults and one vehicle

Identical monthly travel

Two adults travel four round trips with regular fares of 40,000 KRW per direction.
The vehicle fare is 100,000 KRW each way, with two vehicle round trips and a 20% class rate.
Assume every required fact is confirmed and there are no extra fees or local top-ups.

Reserve after support

Passengers: 6,000 × 2 × 8 = 96,000 KRW
Vehicle: 80,000 × 4 = 320,000 KRW
Total: 416,000 KRW versus 1,040,000 before support
Support: 624,000 KRW; without vehicle: 96,000 KRW

The vehicle-shipping difference is 320,000 KRW, before any alternative taxi or rental-car costs.
The initial screen uses these fictional fare amounts with unconfirmed eligibility: its reserve remains 1,040,000 KRW and applied support is zero.
The conditional 416,000 KRW scenario is a planning comparison, not a live ticket quote or an approval.

Local top-ups and avoiding double subtraction

Only subtract a confirmed remaining amount

The Yeosu 2026 work plan separately describes a 1,000-KRW resident passenger program.
It is not a universal national fare for every island.
For illustration, an approved 5,000-KRW top-up against a 6,000-KRW basic copay leaves 1,000 KRW, making the example household’s passenger month 16,000 KRW.

Enter a passenger top-up per person per one-way trip and a vehicle top-up per vehicle per one-way shipment.
The calculator applies it only with a source and explicit confirmation that it stacks after basic support, capped at the remaining fare.
An unconfirmed top-up is not deducted even when an amount has been entered.
If a local program reimburses later, retain enough cash for the initial ticket payment: the discounted economic amount does not automatically represent the booking-day cash requirement.

Interpretation, scenarios and limitations

Appointments and shopping

Keep ordinary passenger trips separate from the smaller number of vehicle shipments.
Check the return fare as carefully as the outbound fare.
Split groups when residence dates, registration or schedules differ.

Before vehicle registration

Confirmed passenger support can reduce its rows while unconfirmed vehicle support stays in the reserve.
After registration, update those facts and compare the change in monthly shipping costs.

“Confirmed” means entered facts were marked confirmed by the user, rather than independently authorized by this site.
An unmet condition excludes support; an unknown quote or vehicle band withholds even the conditional total.
Rules outside 2026 are withheld instead of treating today’s percentages as future guarantees.
No universal annual vehicle quota is invented.
Ask about service availability, cancellations, refunds, retroactive registration, operating restrictions and reimbursement timing separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing my registered address immediately qualify me?

The official guidance describes at least 30 elapsed days of island residence registration.
The eligible island, actual support registration and route must also be checked.
Run separate budgets when family residence dates differ and ask the issuer to check every passenger.

Is a vehicle also capped at KRW 7,000?

Passenger copay caps do not apply to vehicles.
The vehicle receives its confirmed class-based percentage support, and the remaining fare plus separate fees stays payable.
Applying a passenger cap to a vehicle can seriously understate the monthly reserve.

Does zero engine displacement make an EV eligible for 50%?

No.
Electric vehicles require the approved size and support classification.
Compare the registration document with the issuer’s support record.
Choose the unconfirmed class when you do not know its approved band.

What discounts apply to seniors, children and preschool passengers?

Age, operator, route and accommodation may affect the fare.
This calculator requires a quote after the operator discount but before public support, and another after basic public support.
It does not infer free travel or automatically stack age discounts.
Do not subtract a local top-up twice.

Why show a conditional scenario?

It illustrates known formulas if the outstanding conditions are satisfied.
The actual reserve retains the pre-support fare for unconfirmed rows.
If an age quote or vehicle class is unknown, the conditional total is withheld too.

Is the shipping difference my total saving from leaving the car?

It is the vehicle-shipping cost removed from the same passenger schedule.
Add taxis, parking, rental cars and fuel separately to estimate the actual change in total spending.
The calculator does not assume these alternatives are free.

How do I enter four round trips?

Enter four outbound and four return trips.
Enter people only in their passenger groups, without multiplying the trip count by people.
For two vehicle round trips enter two shipments in each direction.
Different return fares belong in the return fields.

Does the saved report authorize support?

No.
The report records entered facts and a planning budget.
The local authority and issuer decide eligibility, supported trip quotas and ticket prices.
Ask about policy validity, application procedures, identity documents and vehicle registration before booking.

Official sources, legal basis and future updates

Marine Transportation Act Article 44 and Rural Quality of Life Act Article 35-2 provide the support authority.
Their current search records and article texts were checked directly through the National Law Information OPEN API.
Search lists MST286933 as current from 2026-06-16, but its detail endpoint returns the general 2027-01-01 date for a partially effective amendment.
Article 44 was therefore cross-checked against the identical provision in MST270849, effective 2025-04-22.
Rural Act MST287991 is effective 2026-07-07.
These statutory powers are distinct from the operational source for percentages and fare caps.

The administrative-rule API search returned zero matches for the execution guideline; no unverified guideline number or amendment date is cited.
Fare parameters use the current official welfare notice with MOF expansion evidence.
Recheck island and bridge exceptions, vehicle bands, registration, owner travel, quotas, age discounts, rounding, extra fees and local stacking before use.

Save a budget and confirm it with the issuer

Save the TXT report to keep entered facts, direction-by-direction costs and outstanding checks together.
Confirm the home-island route, every passenger’s registration, vehicle ownership and class, maximum payload, ticket payable and separate fees before booking.
You do not need to enter an exact residential address, identity number or vehicle plate into this tool.
