Korea Electric Motorcycle Subsidy Calculator

Compare 2026 Korean electric motorcycle grants, buyer and scrappage bonuses, minimum contributions, net purchase cost and operating-cost payback in KRW.

Korean guideline: July 1, 2026 · reviewed September 6

Class caps are not actual awards. Enter the model-specific national grant and your municipality’s notice amounts. A location name does not establish eligibility or remaining budget.

1. Vehicle and national subsidy

Selected class standard cap: ₩2,300,000 · Minimum buyer contribution: standard subsidy × 45%

Priority selection alone is not a cash bonus. Delivery evidence requires six or three months of insurance depending on its type; bonuses may be paid later. Sharing models also require at least a one-year battery subscription and other program conditions.

2. Compare municipality / notice terms

Compare the same model across notice terms or bonus scenarios. Enter only separately authorized local extras. This does not mean you can apply in another municipality.

Check the electric motorcycle subsidy before signing

Korean electric motorcycle support is not a universal discount equal to a vehicle-class maximum.
The model must be eligible, the municipality must have funding, and the buyer must meet the notice and evidence requirements.
Even two small motorcycles can have different model awards because performance and manufacturer assessments affect the published amount.
This calculator combines the official amounts you enter, then compares net upfront cost, annual operating savings and recovery of any extra purchase cost relative to a petrol motorcycle.

For delivery riders and small-business owners

Higher mileage can make energy savings significant, while low mileage can leave a monthly battery subscription more expensive than petrol.
First decide whether the alternative is another purchase or keeping your current motorcycle.
When keeping an existing bike, enter KRW 0 for the petrol alternative purchase cost.
This is especially useful when a business owner or delivery rider is checking cash needs before a replacement purchase.

Korea-specific, KRW, 2026 rules.
The calculation uses the July 1, 2026 electric motorcycle guideline, reviewed September 6, 2026.
It does not determine eligibility or approval and does not query live model awards or municipal budgets.
Recheck the current notice both when calculating and immediately before contracting.

2026 class caps and buyer contribution

The figures below are maximum standard support combining national and local funding.
Standard funding follows a 50:50 national/local basis; published model awards can be lower.
The minimum buyer-contribution percentage is applied to the subsidy, not to the vehicle price.

July 2026 Korean electric motorcycle combined subsidy caps and minimum contribution rates
Vehicle classStandard cap (KRW)Contribution rate
Standard: light1,400,00050%
Standard: small2,300,00045%
Standard: medium2,700,00045%
Standard: large3,000,00040%

Other: certified cargo3,000,00040%
Battery sharing: light980,00050%
Battery sharing: small1,600,00045%

The cargo category refers to the certified main purpose and qualifying cargo-space requirements; attaching a delivery bag does not establish this classification.
Use the category recorded in official certification.
Battery-sharing models require evidence of at least a one-year subscription and other conditions, including joint vehicle/battery after-sales guarantees.

Buyer bonuses, scrappage and local extras

Select one national buyer bonus

Eligible small businesses, vulnerable buyers including disabled people and qualifying low-income households, and farmers receive an additional 20% of the model national base.
Delivery-purpose purchases use 10% of that base.
These two bonuses cannot be combined: being both a small-business owner and a delivery rider does not create a 30% bonus.
Priority in selection alone does not establish entitlement to a cash supplement.

Scrappage and local support

Verified deregistration and scrappage of an existing petrol motorcycle can add up to KRW 300,000 in national support, within the vehicle-class cap.
With only KRW 100,000 remaining under the cap, this calculator includes only that amount.
Enter separately authorized municipal extras using the current notice.
Do not re-enter local base funding or national supplements in the local-extra field.

Delivery evidence requires at least six months of paid commercial transport insurance, including time-based coverage, or three months of non-paid transport insurance.
For a new policy, the supplement may be paid after the required duration is proven.
The ultimate net purchase cost can therefore differ from cash required on the contract date.
Check accepted scrappage dates and documents in the local notice as well.

Inputs and step-by-step use

  1. Look up the exact eligible model and current national base award on the official portal.
Choose its certified class instead of estimating an award from battery capacity alone.
  2. Enter vehicle price after seller discounts.
Keep registration, initial insurance, delivery and other upfront extras separate; do not add anything already included in the price twice.
  3. Record the municipality, notice review date and revision, model-specific local base, and separate local extras.
Up to 20 scenarios can be compared, but adding another municipality does not establish a right to apply there.
  4. Mark entered terms checked only after reviewing the model, notice and applicant conditions.
Unconfirmed scenarios withhold net cost; exhausted or ineligible scenarios apply zero support.
The checked status is your input, not government approval.
  5. Replace annual mileage, fuel economy, prices, electric efficiency and maintenance assumptions.
For a subscription that includes charging energy, choose subscription-only billing to avoid adding metered electricity again.
  6. Review cap reductions and buyer contribution, save the condition sheet, and confirm application or delivery-registration ordering and payment timing with the seller and municipality.

Default mileage, energy prices and maintenance are fictional examples, not current tariffs or market averages.
Use efficiency that reflects charging losses and your actual operator tariff.
Include subscription excess-mileage fees where applicable.
One-time registration and initial insurance belong in upfront extras; annual insurance differences and other recurring costs can be included in annual maintenance/other costs.

Subsidy formula and minimum-contribution review

From published base awards to net cost

  • Standard subsidy = national base + local base + buyer bonus + scrappage bonus.
  • Bonuses use remaining class-cap room, applying the buyer bonus before scrappage.
  • Estimated total support = standard subsidy + verified separate local extras.
  • For a valid reviewed scenario, net upfront cost = discounted vehicle price − total support + electric upfront extras.

Minimum contribution equals standard subsidy multiplied by the class rate of 50%, 45% or 40%.
Separate local extras are excluded from that percentage base.
The guideline requires a subsidy reduction when subsidy plus minimum contribution exceeds vehicle price and allows exceptions for certain ministry-recognized pilot schemes.
This calculator does not assume a universal reduction allocation or automatically recognize a pilot exemption.

When a result is withheld

If price is below total support plus minimum contribution, the row requests a contribution/reduction review.
Its breakdown is provisional, and net purchase cost and payback remain blank.
The same conservative review applies when local extras would leave actual payment below the minimum contribution.
A zero price or base award, an excessive national base or a combined base above the class cap also requires checking.
Separate national-only programs are outside this comparison.

Worked fictional example: a small motorcycle

KRW 2,280,000 subsidy; KRW 2,720,000 net

Assume a KRW 5,000,000 vehicle, national and local bases of KRW 900,000 each, a KRW 180,000 small-business bonus and KRW 300,000 scrappage support.
Standard support is KRW 2,280,000, below the small-class cap of KRW 2,300,000.
Minimum contribution is KRW 2,280,000 × 45% = KRW 1,026,000, satisfied by the KRW 2,720,000 vehicle payment.
With no local extras or upfront extras, net upfront cost is KRW 2,720,000.

Recovery of additional purchase cost: 14 months

At 12,000 km/year, 40 km/L, KRW 1,800/L and KRW 300,000 annual petrol maintenance, petrol operating cost is KRW 840,000/year.
At 30 km/kWh, KRW 300/kWh and KRW 100,000 electric maintenance, electric operating cost is KRW 220,000/year.
Annual savings are KRW 620,000.
Against a KRW 2,000,000 petrol purchase, the extra cost is KRW 720,000; rounding KRW 720,000 ÷ KRW 620,000 × 12 up gives 14 months.

With these subsidy terms, a vehicle price of KRW 3,306,000 exactly meets the contribution check.
One won less requires a reduction review and withholds the result.
If both bases were KRW 1,150,000, they would already fill the KRW 2,300,000 cap and neither buyer nor scrappage bonuses would be added.
These are synthetic figures, not quotes for a real model or municipality.

Interpret payback and compare realistic scenarios

Include more than energy alone

Annual petrol cost = annual distance ÷ km/L × price/L + annual maintenance/other costs.
Metered electric cost = distance ÷ km/kWh × price/kWh + annual subscription + maintenance/other costs.
An energy-inclusive subscription instead uses monthly subscription × 12 + maintenance/other costs, with no additional mileage-based electricity charge.
When annual savings are zero or negative, a positive extra purchase cost cannot be recovered through operating savings.

No extra upfront cost means the electric option starts at the same or a lower price; it does not guarantee a long-term advantage if electric running costs are higher.
Payback assumes constant annual mileage and costs and is a simple nominal comparison.
It excludes depreciation, resale value, future battery replacement, financing, charging time and delivery income changes.

Delivery riders can enter real route mileage and recurring insurance costs.
Small-business owners can compare documented bonus and scrappage conditions.
Short-distance commuters can lower mileage to see the effect of fixed subscription fees.
Also compare an unavailable-funding scenario to understand cash needs and payback without a grant.

Frequently asked questions

Does everyone receive KRW 3,000,000?

No.
That is a class cap for large motorcycles and qualifying certified cargo models, not a universal payment.
Actual support depends on model awards, eligibility and available funds.
Separate local extras require their own notice check.

Can a small-business delivery rider combine 20% and 10%?

No.
The small-business/vulnerable-buyer/farmer bonus and delivery bonus cannot be combined.
Choose one verified category and enter independently authorized local extras separately.

Can I immediately resell a subsidized motorcycle?

Check mandatory operation and recovery rules first.
Article 79-4 of the Enforcement Rule of the Clean Air Conservation Act provides an eight-year range for the relevant subsidized vehicles.
Actual recovery depends on the reason and operating period; this calculator does not calculate a clawback.

Does saving the comparison reserve an application slot?

No.
Live budgets and queue positions are not provided.
Check the official portal for application versus delivery-registration ordering, deadlines and available quantities.
A saved worksheet is not an application.

Why is net cost blank after I enter the price?

Check the unconfirmed status, zero or excessive base awards and minimum-contribution shortfall in the breakdown.
An unresolved reduction or exemption must not be treated as an approved grant or a free vehicle.

Does the English page calculate another country’s subsidy?

No.
It uses Korean July 2026 rules in KRW and shares the same calculation function as the Korean page.
It is not a foreign electric motorcycle incentive calculator.
