This calculator estimates EV charging cost by combining the vehicle efficiency, monthly distance, home charging share, public slow charging, public fast charging, membership plans, and a comparable gasoline, diesel, or LPG vehicle.

It is designed for Korean EV owners who need to decide whether home off-peak charging, public slow charging, a fast-charging membership, or a subscription plan is the cheapest pattern for their actual driving.

2026 Korean charging-rate assumptions

Public and private charging

  • Public fast charging, 100 kW+: KRW 347.2/kWh, often enough for 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Public fast charging, 50 kW: KRW 324.4/kWh.
  • Public slow charging, 7 to 11 kW: KRW 324.4/kWh in the Korean source.
  • GS ChargeB: roughly KRW 335/kWh for members and KRW 470/kWh for non-members on fast charging.
  • Everon and Powercube: slow-charging references of KRW 229.2/kWh and KRW 227.8/kWh are used for low-cost scenarios.
  • SK Electlink subscription: KRW 19,900 monthly plus KRW 295/kWh, useful when fast charging exceeds about 380 kWh per month.

Home charging and the 2026 time-of-use change

  • The source applies the April 16, 2026 time-of-use reform, described as the first major change in 49 years.
  • For summer home charging, the off-peak 23:00 to 09:00 rate is shown at KRW 59.1/kWh, the mid-load 09:00 to 17:00 rate at KRW 82.4/kWh, and the peak 17:00 to 23:00 rate at KRW 112.4/kWh.
  • Daytime rates from 10:00 to 17:00 fall by up to KRW 16.9/kWh, while evening peak and night rates rise by KRW 5.1/kWh.

Monthly fuel-cost comparison

1,200 km per month example

  • An EV at 6.0 km/kWh needs about 200 kWh for 1,200 km per month.
  • Home off-peak charging can be around KRW 12,000 per month.
  • A mixed charging pattern is modeled around KRW 30,000 to KRW 50,000 per month.
  • Public fast charging only can be around KRW 70,000 per month.
  • For the same distance, a gasoline vehicle at 12 km/L is around KRW 165,000, a diesel vehicle at 14 km/L around KRW 128,000, and an LPG vehicle at 10 km/L around KRW 126,000.
  • Using only home night charging can save more than KRW 1,800,000 per year versus the gasoline example.

How to lower charging cost

  • Maximize off-peak home charging from 23:00 to 09:00 when installation is possible.
  • Register for operator memberships because non-member fast charging can add KRW 50 to KRW 200 per kWh.
  • Use an EV-specific credit card only if the monthly discount cap is meaningful for your usage.
  • Consider the SK Electlink subscription only when your monthly fast-charging volume is high enough to cover the fixed KRW 19,900 fee.
  • Use the spring/fall weekend daytime 50% discount when your charging pattern can shift to those hours.
