Korean EV purchase subsidy and tax-benefit estimate

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean rates, thresholds, vehicle classifications, and administrative assumptions used by the source page.

National subsidy, price threshold, and local subsidy

The Korean EV subsidy calculator starts with a national subsidy amount and then applies the purchase-price reduction rule. The source thresholds are KRW 53 million for full subsidy eligibility and KRW 85 million for the upper half-subsidy band; above the upper band, the national subsidy is reduced to zero.

Local subsidy is then added by region. The default example uses Seoul, an Ioniq 6 long-range preset, KRW 52 million vehicle price, and KRW 5.7 million national subsidy before reduction.

  • The scrappage conversion subsidy is modeled as KRW 1 million when selected.
  • The national subsidy before reduction remains visible so users can see the price-threshold effect.
  • The final price subtracts subsidy, local support, conversion support, and tax benefits.

Tax benefits included in the source model

The source model includes KRW 3 million individual consumption-tax benefit, KRW 900,000 education-tax benefit, and KRW 1.4 million acquisition-tax benefit. Together those tax benefits total KRW 5.3 million.

The benefit rate is total benefit divided by vehicle price. That makes it easier to compare a lower-priced EV with full subsidy against a higher-priced EV that may lose part or all of the national subsidy.
