An oil-change quote raises two separate questions: when the service is due and what the complete job will cost.
A mileage-only estimate can overlook a time deadline, while an unnecessarily short interval can increase spending.
This calculator combines the distance and time limits from your vehicle manual with your service history, then compares three itemized quotes.
Costs use Korean won (KRW), distances use kilometers, and source examples refer to Korean-market vehicles.
A maintenance budget for a car you intend to keep
The tool is useful when keeping an older car, driving less after retirement or comparing providers after a warranty expires.
Vehicle age alone does not apply an automatic interval reduction.
Use the results to check your manual and quotes, and confirm the oil product, specification, filter and labor scope before booking.
It does not diagnose the engine or establish whether continued driving is appropriate.
Match the manual to the model year and engine
Intervals can differ between engines in the same vehicle family.
Selecting Hyundai, Kia, Renault Korea, KGM, Chevrolet or another manufacturer records your vehicle; it does not identify its service interval.
Enter the normal and severe distance and time limits for your exact engine and model year.
Battery EVs are outside this engine-oil calculation, while hybrids and plug-in hybrids still require the relevant engine maintenance schedule.

Severe use can include ordinary daily driving
Trip patterns
Repeated short trips, extensive idling and heavy stop-and-start traffic can appear in a severe-use schedule.
A short commute does not automatically mean a lower maintenance burden.
Compare your actual driving with the conditions in the matching manual.
Environment and load
Review dusty or rough roads, hills, frequent abrupt acceleration, towing or commercial use, cold or corrosive conditions and roof loads.
Also check whether the oil meets the manufacturer’s recommendations.
The exact manual wording controls the classification.
Checking any listed condition selects the severe interval you entered.
The calculator does not automatically halve the normal interval.
You can also apply severe use based on a separate manual or technician confirmation.
The checklist organizes your circumstances; it does not measure oil condition or diagnose engine wear.
Gather your service receipt and odometer reading
- Calculation date and current odometer: Enter today’s readings for a current decision, or choose another date to review recorded circumstances.
- Last oil change: Copy the date and odometer from a receipt or service record.
If the history is uncertain, clear the history-known checkbox instead of inventing a starting point. - Monthly distance: Use a representative driving average and update it if commuting or travel changes.
Forecast dates assume that future driving follows this average. - Manual and comparison intervals: Enter the normal and severe limits, then separately enter your current service habit.
The comparison input does not replace the manual limits. - Matching quotes: Record the oil product, specification, purchased quantity, filter and labor scope.
The three providers are alternatives for the same service; their totals should not be added together.
A service date after the calculation date, or a previous odometer above the current reading, produces an input error.
Unknown history leaves the next date and planned service count uncalculated, while the annual average budget remains available.
Check records or arrange an inspection before establishing the next actual service.
Annual frequency includes both distance and time
Average-budget formulas
Average annual services = max(monthly km × 12 ÷ interval km, 12 ÷ interval months)
Annual average budget = cost per service × average annual services
At 1,000km per month and a 15,000km or 12-month interval, the distance estimate is 0.8 services per year, but time requires 1 service.
The calculator therefore uses 1.
At 2,000km per month, the same limits produce 1.6 services per year; a severe interval of 7,500km or 6 months produces 3.2.
Entering 0km per month still retains the time-based requirement.
A fractional frequency allocates recurring maintenance across multiple years.
It does not mean performing a partial oil change or visiting a shop a fractional number of times this year.
Use the separate next-12-month schedule for an integer visit count based on your service history.
How the next date and 12-month schedule are calculated
Distance limit
Add the interval distance to the odometer at the last oil change.
Subtract the current odometer to obtain remaining distance; a negative value means that the limit was exceeded.
The forecast spreads annual driving across 365.25 days and rounds the required travel time up to a whole day.
Calendar deadline
Add the interval in calendar months to the last service date.
If a corresponding day does not exist, use the last day of that month.
For example, 2024-02-29 plus 12 months becomes 2025-02-28.
The earlier of the two dates becomes the next planned service.
If a limit has already been reached or exceeded, the budget assumes one service today rather than several immediate catch-up changes.
Each following service restarts both interval clocks using the same driving average.
The next-12-month window includes today and the date exactly 12 months later.
Consequently, servicing today and every 6 months can produce three planned visits, while the long-term average remains two per year.
Calendar month-end adjustments and whole-day rounding can also make planned spending differ from an average budget.
Compare oil, filter, labor and other charges consistently
Cost per service
Cost per service = purchased liters × price per liter + filter + labor + other charges
If filter replacement is unchecked, its charge is omitted and the quote is excluded from lowest-cost comparisons.
Enter tax-inclusive spending and avoid adding a bundled filter or labor charge twice.
Purchased liters represent the quantity you pay for, not an instruction about how much oil to put into the engine.
OEM describes a product or supply channel, while synthetic describes oil characteristics; they are not mutually exclusive grades.
Matching viscosity markings alone may not establish the required performance specification or manufacturer approval.
Check the product label and your manual before confirming compatibility.
Only quotes with confirmed specifications, equivalent scope and filter replacement receive lowest-cost comparisons.
Unconfirmed quotes remain visible as reference amounts.
Self-service may avoid a labor payment but still involve tools, shipping and waste-oil disposal charges.
Allocate those expenses explicitly through the other-cost field.
Price comparisons do not assess repair skills or whether you can perform the work safely.
Check whether any coupon or complimentary service can actually be repeated before treating it as a recurring price.

These are fictional examples, not current market averages or published provider prices.
At an average of one service per year, the independent and self-service routes cost KRW 22,000 and KRW 42,000 less than the center example.
Treat them as comparable alternatives only after confirming matching specifications and filter scope.
History changes planned cash spending
Assume a calculation date of 2026-09-06, last service on 2026-03-06, an odometer increase from 50,000km to 56,000km and 1,000km per month.
With a 15,000km or 12-month interval, 9,000km remain and the calendar deadline, 2027-03-06, is the next planned date.
With a severe interval of 7,500km or 6 months, service is due today and three dates fall within the inclusive window ending 2027-09-06.
The center example then has an annual average budget of KRW 200,000 but planned cash spending of KRW 300,000, including today’s service.
Extra cost of earlier changes is conditional
A current habit of changing every 5,000km or 6 months at 1,000km per month produces 2.4 average annual services.
If your confirmed manual limits are 15,000km or 12 months and your driving qualifies for normal use, the difference from one service per year is 1.4.
At KRW 100,000 per service, the annual extra cost of that earlier habit is KRW 140,000.
This normal-use comparison does not apply unchanged when severe conditions or vehicle condition require additional maintenance.
No extension beyond either manual limit
If either the comparison distance or comparison time exceeds the entered manual limit, early-service extra cost is not calculated.
The comparison also requires manual confirmation, eligible quotes and no checked vehicle alert.
A more expensive oil does not justify extending the interval, and a calculated date must not override an earlier oil-life message.
Practical planning scenarios
Less driving after retirement
Check whether time now arrives before the mileage limit.
Maintenance spending may fall less than driving distance, so keep a separate time-based budget.
A longer commute
More monthly driving can create more service visits even if the mileage interval stays the same.
Update the estimate after you have actual records from the new commute.
Changing service providers
Compare oil, filter and labor on the same basis.
Confirm quantities, included consumables and additional work before using a headline price difference.
Buying a used car
Do not guess the previous owner’s last service date or odometer.
Request records or arrange a check, then record both date and mileage on future receipts.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there a cost when I barely drive?
A time limit still produces maintenance frequency even at zero monthly distance.
Check the manual and appropriate service advice for a vehicle kept in long-term storage.
Can synthetic oil extend the interval?
The synthetic label alone does not extend a service limit.
Confirm the manufacturer’s required specification and approval, the engine and driving conditions.
How do I enter a bundled free filter?
Check filter replacement and enter zero additional filter cost.
Do not add labor again if it is already included in the package price.
Why do average and planned service counts differ?
Average frequency spreads a repeating interval across years; planned visits account for the last service and the upcoming calendar.
Both window endpoints are included and an overdue service counts once today.
What if an oil warning appears earlier?
Prioritize the vehicle alert and actual symptoms.
For a pressure warning, leak or unusual noise, consult a qualified technician about driving; do not use the calculator as a remaining-safe-distance estimate.
Can I keep a copy of the plan?
Save inputs and service plan downloads a text file with vehicle notes, dates, intervals, quotes and results.
Record actual appointments and completed maintenance separately.
