New, remanufactured, and used packs

Costs outside the pack line

Convert a reference into a vehicle-specific estimate

Use a published price only to form a preliminary range. Ask the repairer to identify a compatible assembly by VIN and separate the VAT-inclusive pack, labor, diagnosis, materials, and core-return terms. The presets are HEV examples. A PHEV has a different pack architecture and capacity, so use a VIN-specific written quote instead of scaling an HEV number.

How the calculation works

1. Direct cost before core credit

The calculator adds labor, diagnosis, and confirmed materials to either a published pack-price range or the single pack line from your written quote. A reference range stays a range instead of being reduced to a misleading midpoint.

2. Core-return credit

A documented credit for returning the old pack is deducted from direct cost. If the entered credit is larger than a side of the range, the deduction is capped at that direct cost so the result cannot become negative.

3. Transport and approved support

Downtime multiplied by daily alternative transport is added to the direct repair cost. Only an amount actually approved by a maker, insurer, seller, or repairer is deducted; an assumed warranty benefit should stay at zero.

4. Planning budget and comparisons

Contingency is added to out-of-pocket cost. The calculator also shows out-of-pocket cost as a percentage of vehicle value and a monthly equivalent across remaining ownership. Those are decision aids, not a market-value forecast.

Example 2: Niro HEV part-number range before a quote

The 2021 Niro HEV catalog example contains published values from KRW 1,991,000 to KRW 2,420,000 for parts 37501AT000, 37501AT010, and 37501AT020. The range demonstrates part-number variation; it does not mean the lowest-priced part fits every Niro. Preserve the range until a VIN lookup identifies the correct assembly, then recalculate with the written part line.

Example 3: A vehicle appears to be within warranty

Hyundai and Kia official pages show 10-year/200,000-km coverage for several hybrid high-voltage batteries. That does not make every capacity complaint an automatically free repair. Read the warranty period carefully

Official exclusions also matter. Normal high-voltage battery charge or capacity degradation may be excluded under maker criteria, and travel, lodging, lost use, or similar indirect expenses may not be covered. Confirm the relevant start date and whether coverage ends when either time or mileage reaches its limit first.

Failure versus normal aging

Enforcement Rule Article 132 excludes high-voltage equipment from the ordinary electrical-work exception. A traction pack should not be handled like a 12V battery. The repairer needs the maker procedure, isolation equipment, personal protection, service-disconnect control, and verification of a de-energized state.
