This English page follows the Korean inguinal hernia surgery guide for open mesh, laparoscopic TEP or TAPP, robotic repair, tissue repair, unilateral or bilateral surgery, incarceration, strangulation, premium mesh, bowel resection, private indemnity, and tax credit.

Method and laterality

Open mesh repair uses a KRW 1,600,000 covered fee and 2 default inpatient days. Laparoscopic TEP or TAPP uses KRW 2,400,000 and 2 days. Tissue repair without mesh uses KRW 1,300,000 and 2 days. Robotic repair keeps the KRW 2,400,000 covered base and adds a non-covered robot surcharge of KRW 4,000,000, with a Korean guide range of KRW 3,000,000 to KRW 7,000,000.

Laterality is not simply doubled. Unilateral surgery uses multiplier 1.0, and bilateral surgery uses 1.7 because anesthesia and approach costs are shared but mesh and repair work increase.

Severity and material add-ons

Simple reducible hernia uses severity multiplier 1.0 and 2 default days. Incarcerated hernia uses 1.3 and 3 days. Strangulated hernia uses 1.8 and 7 days, and adds KRW 2,000,000 for covered bowel resection when selected by the source logic.

Premium mesh is modeled at KRW 300,000 to KRW 800,000 per mesh, with KRW 500,000 as the average. PCA is KRW 100,000 to KRW 200,000, adhesion barrier is KRW 150,000 to KRW 400,000, and adult inpatient copay is 20 percent while child inpatient copay is 5 percent.

How to use the estimate

The Korean guide emphasizes that strangulation is urgent. Cost comparison should not delay treatment when pain, vomiting, irreducible bulge, fever, or bowel obstruction signs appear.

Private indemnity reimbursement can differ sharply for robotic repair, premium mesh, and room upgrade because those are non-covered or surcharge-style items.
