Sleeve gastrectomy uses a KRW 9,000,000 covered fee, KRW 18,000,000 non-covered hospital price, 4 default stay days, and 65 percent excess weight loss. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass uses KRW 11,000,000 covered, KRW 22,000,000 non-covered, 5 days, and 70 percent EWL.

One-anastomosis gastric bypass uses KRW 10,000,000 covered, KRW 20,000,000 non-covered, 5 days, and 70 percent EWL. Adjustable gastric band uses KRW 7,000,000 covered, KRW 14,000,000 non-covered, 3 days, and 50 percent EWL. Robotic bariatric surgery adds a non-covered surcharge range of KRW 6,000,000 to KRW 10,000,000, with KRW 8,000,000 as the average.

Korean coverage criteria

The source model treats BMI 35 or higher as ordinary covered bariatric surgery. BMI 30 or higher with obesity-related comorbidity is also ordinary covered surgery. BMI 27.5 or higher with type 2 diabetes is modeled as selective benefit.

Ordinary covered bariatric surgery uses a 20 percent copay, selective benefit uses an 80 percent copay, and non-covered surgery uses 100 percent self-pay. The Korean model also applies a 0.5 reimbursement factor when BMI is below 35 without comorbidity, reflecting a conservative indemnity dispute risk.

What affects the result

The calculator asks for height and weight because BMI drives coverage status and expected weight loss. It also keeps hospital type, region, upper-room days, private indemnity generation, and salary for the Korean medical expense tax-credit calculation.

The estimate is not a medical eligibility decision. Nutritional assessment, psychiatric readiness, diabetes status, sleep apnea, reflux, surgical risk, and long-term follow-up capacity matter as much as the initial bill.
