Korean EV battery SOH, replacement cost, warranty, and recycling value

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean won amounts, statutory thresholds, vehicle categories, penalty rates, subsidy caps, and administrative assumptions used by the source page.

Battery degradation model

The battery model estimates state of health from calendar aging, cycle use, fast charging, depth of discharge, parking environment, climate, and full-charge idle behavior. Calendar base degradation is 2.3 percent per year, each equivalent full cycle adds 0.02 percent SOH loss, cold climate adds 0.3 percentage points, and hot climate adds 0.5 percentage points.

Depth of discharge over 80 percent adds 0.04 percentage points for each excess percentage point, and each 1 percent of fast-charge share adds 0.03 percentage points. Outdoor covered parking adds 0.2 percentage points, outdoor exposed parking adds 0.4 percentage points, and frequent full-charge idle behavior adds 0.3 percentage points.

Replacement and recycling value

Replacement pack price is chemistry specific: NCM KRW 190,000 per kWh, NCMA KRW 205,000 per kWh, LFP KRW 145,000 per kWh, and hybrid NMC plus LMFP KRW 170,000 per kWh. Official labor is KRW 1.5 million, BMS reset is KRW 300,000, battery return credit is KRW 400,000, and VAT is 10 percent.

Warranty evaluation checks warranty years, warranty kilometers, and whether SOH is below the warranty SOH threshold, often 70 percent. Recycling and reuse value includes KRW 80,000 per kWh ESS reuse value, lithium 0.12 kg per kWh at KRW 20,000 per kg, cobalt 0.20 kg per kWh at KRW 45,000 per kg, and nickel 0.78 kg per kWh at KRW 28,000 per kg for non-LFP packs.

  • New battery manufacturing CO2 is modeled at 75 kg per kWh.
  • Reuse and recycling savings use a 60 percent CO2 saving rate.
  • Tree equivalent again uses 22 kg CO2 per tree.
