Korea Car Key Replacement Cost Calculator

Compare tax-inclusive quotes for service-center key replacement, independent key service and insured towing plus replacement in South Korea, including coding, callout charges and completion times.

Compare the key service and towing together

Use tax-inclusive quotes. Separate the unit key price from labor for the entire job; enter zero for bundled items. Roadside assistance alone does not replace a lost key.

Hyundai Mobis official parts lookup

1. Vehicle and lost-key situation

A spare at home or a nonworking spare does not mean you can drive now. Changing vehicle facts clears quote confirmations. Key type and model year do not determine price or coding compatibility.

2. Authorized service center quote

Key unit price
Coding, cutting and labor for all keys
Visit/travel expenses (excluding towing)
Security work, parking and other charges
Total completion time (travel and parts wait included; 0 = unknown)

3. Independent key-service quote

Key unit price
Coding, cutting and labor for all keys
Callout fee
Security work, parking and other charges
Total completion time (travel and parts wait included; 0 = unknown)

Use an on-site service or a provider you can reach. If this route also needs towing, include it under other charges.

4. Center towing and insurance

Full self-paid towing quote (recovery, equipment and extras included)
Extra insured-tow charges (recovery, equipment, etc.)
Total time for insured towing + center key replacement

Unlocking assistance differs from making a new key. Confirm car-park access, special equipment, smart-key restrictions, daily limits and whether this request can be accepted.

0 confirmed routes

Confirm service availability and quotes first

Unconfirmed and unavailable routes are excluded. This compares entered price ranges; it is not a final quote or quality guarantee.

Service center + self-paid towing

Vehicle/key compatibility unconfirmed

Independent key service

Vehicle/key compatibility unconfirmed

Insured towing + service center

Roadside-assistance enrollment unconfirmed

Next: confirm incident coverage with your insurer

  1. Describe the lost key, location and inability to start. Confirm towing coverage, remaining calls, covered distance and extras.
  2. Ask providers about the key, coding, callout, lost-key registration removal and completion time.
  3. Confirm ownership documents and any existing keys the provider needs, then save the comparison.

What belongs in a lost car key replacement budget?

Buying the key is only one part of getting your vehicle moving again.
Cutting, vehicle registration, immobilizer programming, a callout or service-center visit, towing, parking and additional security work can all affect the final bill.
An advertised key price can omit these items, while an all-inclusive quotation can already contain them.
Comparing the same completed service helps you avoid both missing charges and counting bundled items twice.

This calculator compares an authorized service center with self-paid towing, an independent key service, and insured towing followed by the same service-center replacement.
It uses your tax-inclusive quotes in Korean won and does not supply a national average or a make-specific price estimate.
A route is clearly cheaper only when its upper total is below the lower total of every other confirmed route.
The result supports a decision before ordering towing or a callout; it does not book a provider.

South Korea context, reviewed September 7, 2026.
Prices and service availability come from user-entered quotes, while the official sources explain parts lookup, manufacturer guidance and the limits of assistance.
The optional fictional example is not a market price, an insurance benefit schedule or approval of a claim.

Understand the three routes

Authorized service center + self-paid towing

Multiply the key unit price by the requested quantity, then add coding, cutting and labor for the entire job, visit expenses and other charges.
Add the full self-paid tow quote only when you cannot currently drive and the center requires the vehicle on site.
If you can drive or the center confirms that vehicle attendance is unnecessary, the towing component becomes zero.
Your entered visit expenses and other charges remain in the total.

Independent key service

Include the key itself as well as programming and the callout.
Comparing only a callout and coding charge against a complete service-center quote would leave out part of the work.
Use an on-site service or a provider you can reach yourself; if this route also requires towing, add it under other charges.
Ask whether the provider can deliver a working key for your exact vehicle and loss situation, and whether removing the lost key from registration is included.

Insured towing + the same service center

This route keeps the same center key-service price and changes the towing component.
It adds the excess-distance charge and any extra towing contribution that your insurer confirms.
It does not treat roadside assistance as an alternative that creates a new key for free.
Key parts and programming remain payable unless a separate, applicable arrangement says otherwise; this calculator does not automatically deduct a key-replacement benefit.

Vehicle details, key type and spare-key status

Make, model and model year are optional quote-reference notes.
They do not automatically set a price because production date, fitted parts and key specification can change what is needed.
Choose mechanical, remote, immobilizer or smart key, then confirm the actual equipment with the provider.
The appearance of a remote key does not establish that the vehicle has no immobilizer.
Provider-confirmed compatibility is required for a route to enter the comparison; selecting a key type alone cannot establish programming capability.

Having a spare is different from being able to drive now

A spare may be at home while the car is in a distant car park.
A damaged or unregistered spare may also fail to let you drive.
Mark current driving availability only when a usable key or another already authorized access method actually allows it.
Ask the center whether it needs the vehicle present rather than assuming that a spare automatically removes towing.

Home, roadside and car-park locations are context for the quote; choosing one does not apply an automatic location surcharge.
Confirm access height, towing access, extra recovery equipment and car-park exit charges, and include the quoted costs once.
The form accepts one to five keys as an input limit, not as a claim about how many keys any vehicle can register.
Changing vehicle facts clears prior quote confirmations so you can check the new conditions.

Insurance enrollment alone is not enough

A roadside-assistance rider may still have conditions relating to the incident, remaining calls, vehicle and location.
Unlocking and towing are different services, and an unlocked door does not establish that the car can start or that a new key has been registered.
A published distance or annual call limit should not be treated as a universal current benefit across insurers and policy dates.

  • Confirm enrollment, remaining assistance calls and towing coverage for this particular lost-key incident.
  • Enter the actual tow distance to the intended center and the distance covered for this request.
  • Check the rate per excess kilometer and whether actual excess distance or whole-kilometer rounding applies.
  • Enter recovery, special-equipment and other extra contributions separately from the distance charge.
  • Ask about daily limits, destination restrictions and whether the current request can be accepted.

The displayed remaining-call figure assumes that you actually use the insured route once.
Calculating or downloading a comparison does not contact the insurer or consume a call.
Being inside the covered distance does not remove the key-service charge or confirmed extra towing costs.
Special-equipment charges can even make insured towing more expensive than the alternative quote.

Formulas and range interpretation

Key service and towing

Key-service cost = key unit price × quantity + coding, cutting and labor for all keys + visit or callout + other charges.
Self-paid center total = center key-service cost + full self-paid towing cost when needed.
Insured route total = the same center key-service cost + billed excess distance × rate + extra insured-towing charges.
Labor covers the entire selected quantity, so the calculator does not multiply it by quantity again.

Excess distance and savings

Excess distance = max(actual distance − covered distance, 0).
Whole-kilometer billing rounds up only the excess portion after subtracting the covered distance.
Proportional billing keeps the fractional distance; the resulting distance charge is rounded to the nearest won.
Minimum saving = self-paid total lower bound − insured total upper bound.
Maximum saving = self-paid total upper bound − insured total lower bound.
Negative savings remain visible because they indicate additional spending.

Enter the same amount in both bounds for a fixed quote.
If an item is already bundled into another charge, enter zero for the duplicate item and confirm the complete scope.
An unconfirmed zero is not a free service: that route remains outside the comparison until the whole quote is confirmed.
Reversed bounds trigger an input error instead of being silently swapped.

One confirmed route is not enough to declare a cheapest option.
If ranges overlap or merely touch, the calculator does not award a winner based on an optimistic price or upper-bound ranking.
Equal lowest fixed amounts are shown as a tie, with scope and completion time still requiring comparison.
Excluding unavailable or unconfirmed routes also means that a winner is limited to the entered confirmed quotes, not the whole market.

Worked example: insured towing can still overlap an independent quote

Every amount and completion time below is fictional and illustrates arithmetic only.
Assume one smart key, a vehicle that cannot currently be driven and a center that requires the car on site.

Self-paid center route: KRW 330,000

The key costs KRW 150,000, coding and labor cost KRW 60,000, and other charges are KRW 20,000.
Center key-service cost is therefore KRW 230,000.
Add KRW 100,000 for self-paid towing to reach KRW 330,000.
Assume the provider quotes 24–48 hours including parts wait and travel.

Independent route: KRW 250,000–310,000

The key costs KRW 120,000–180,000, with KRW 70,000 labor, KRW 40,000 callout and KRW 20,000 other charges.
Assume on-site service is confirmed and the complete job takes 2–4 hours.
The key-price range remains part of the total rather than being replaced with an assumed average.

Insured towing + center: KRW 260,000

Actual tow distance is 25 km and the confirmed covered distance in this example is 10 km.
The excess is 15 km at an assumed KRW 2,000/km, giving a KRW 30,000 distance charge.
Adding the KRW 230,000 center service produces KRW 260,000.
Assume no extra towing charges and a total completion time of 25–49 hours.

KRW 70,000 saving, but no overall winner

The insured route saves KRW 70,000 compared with the self-paid center route.
However, KRW 260,000 falls inside the independent range of KRW 250,000–310,000, so their final cost order remains uncertain.
If the vehicle can currently be driven, center towing becomes zero, the center total becomes KRW 230,000 and the insured route is not applicable.

For two keys under the same entered labor terms, the center production cost becomes KRW 380,000.
Only the key unit price is multiplied by two; labor and other charges are counted once.
In practice, the total labor quote may change with quantity, so reconfirm it before relying on the comparison.

Step-by-step use

  1. Enter the vehicle and loss situation.
Distinguish the existence of a spare from being able to drive now, and confirm whether the center needs the car.
  2. Request comparable quotes for the same quantity and finished service.
Check parts, cutting, registration, security work and whether tax is included.
  3. Enter lower and upper amounts, then confirm availability and the complete quote.
Leave unverified routes unconfirmed while you ask about missing items.
  4. Ask your insurer about this incident before assuming towing support.
Verify remaining calls, distance, excess billing, equipment charges and the destination.
  5. Read price ranges alongside total completion time and save the comparison.
Update it if the provider changes the scope or price.

Practical situations and checks beyond price

All keys lost in a car park

Do not assume that a roadside callout quote includes an underground car park.
Confirm access, equipment and exit costs with the provider, then enter each charge once for the applicable route.
Tow-truck arrival time differs from the time you can use a replacement key, so include parts availability and center opening hours in the completion estimate.

One working key remains

If you can actually drive with it, removing towing may make the center route cheaper.
Ask whether the lost key should be removed from registration or existing keys need to be registered again, and include the quoted charge under other costs.
Making an ordinary spare and carrying out security work after a loss may represent different service scopes.

Imported vehicles, particular model years or parts delays

Do not assume that every independent provider supports every immobilizer or smart-key system.
Keep the route outside the cost ranking until availability is confirmed.
Ask about proof of ownership, who must attend, existing keys to bring, stock and warranty terms.
This comparison provides no vehicle-access authorization and does not replace a service agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Will it instantly tell me the market price of a smart key?

There is no make-specific market price table.
Enter actual quotes for the key, coding, callout and towing to compare complete costs.

Does roadside assistance provide a free replacement key?

Towing or unlocking differs from key replacement.
The insured route retains the center key price and programming labor.
Check any separate key-protection product directly against its own contract.

What if programming is included in the quoted price?

Count the package once.
The key-price field is per key and is multiplied by quantity.
For a single quote covering the entire job, enter the total in the all-keys labor or other-charge field and leave bundled duplicates at zero.

How are fractional excess kilometers handled?

Choose the provider-confirmed billing method.
For an actual distance of 10.1 km and 10 km covered, proportional billing uses 0.1 km, while whole-kilometer excess billing uses 1 km.

Does zero completion time mean immediate service?

A zero lower time bound is shown as unconfirmed completion time.
Enter the provider’s complete estimate including travel, parts wait and work; the calculator does not predict availability.

Do I need to enter personal documents?

A VIN, address, insurance policy number and identification document are not needed.
Make/model notes are optional.
Saved files include your inputs, so review them before sharing.
