The salary-income version exposes the earned-income tax base while preserving the same Korean salary calculation function used by the utility salary page. This English calculator calls the Korean page feature lib directly. The UI is translated, but the numbers come from the same pure calculation path instead of a generic value-times-rate stub.

This English article translates the Korean salary income tax guide and focuses on earned income, earned-income deduction, personal deductions, tax credits, local tax, and net salary.

Earned-income deduction

Salary income tax starts from gross earned income, but Korean law allows an earned-income deduction before the taxable base is calculated. The utility lib keeps the tiered deduction and then subtracts personal and special deductions.

Because the deduction is tiered, a raise does not translate into a single fixed tax rate. The calculator shows work income deduction, taxable income, income tax, local tax, and marginal tax rate so users can see where the salary lands.

Payroll taxes and insurance

The result keeps income tax and local income tax separate from national pension, health insurance, long-term care insurance, and employment insurance. This distinction is important because payroll withholding and social-insurance premiums follow different bases and caps.

The Korean salary calculation also keeps the KRW 130,000 standard tax credit and special deduction inputs for pension saving, personal IRP, insurance, medical expenses, education expenses, and donations.

Year-end settlement use

Use this page to check whether additional pension saving or IRP payments can reduce taxable salary income before year-end settlement. The calculator is also useful when comparing a monthly salary offer with the actual net deposit.

For employees with side income, a separate comprehensive-income filing may still be required. The salary income page explains the payroll portion; the comprehensive income page should be used when salary is combined with business or financial income.
