Korea unemployment benefit calculator guide

This English guide translates the Korean unemployment benefit calculator. The calculator calls calculateUnemploymentBenefit and keeps the 2026 daily cap and floor, the 60% average-wage rule, the 180-day minimum insured period, and payment scheduling.

Eligibility requirements

The Korean page explains that unemployment benefit is generally available when an insured worker leaves for an involuntary reason or another justifiable reason. The input therefore distinguishes involuntary termination, contract expiration, mass layoff, business closure, voluntary resignation, and disciplinary cases.

The minimum insured period is 180 insured days within the last 18 months before separation. The worker must also be willing and able to work, must perform job-seeking activity, and must attend unemployment recognition steps. A voluntary resignation without an accepted justifiable reason normally blocks payment.

Daily benefit amount and 2026 limits

The daily benefit amount is based on 60% of average daily wage. For 2026, the Korean constants apply a maximum daily benefit of KRW 68,100 and a minimum daily benefit of KRW 66,048. The minimum reflects 80% of the 2026 minimum hourly wage multiplied by an 8-hour standard day.

Average daily wage is calculated from eligible wages and eligible days in the recent wage records, after excluding non-taxable pay and excluded days. This is why the English calculator collects monthly gross pay, monthly non-taxable pay, and working days rather than asking for a single generic salary percentage.

Duration and payment schedule

Benefit duration depends on recognized insured days, age, disability or maternity-related status, and priority-support workplace treatment. The Korean logic supports duration bands from 120 to 270 days. Workers age 50 or older and disabled workers can receive longer durations in the same insured-day band.

The schedule applies a 7-day waiting period and then builds payment periods using the unemployment-recognition interval. The result can show first payable date, exhaustion date, and the first payment schedule entries when a termination date is entered.

During the benefit period

The Korean article warns that benefit recipients must report work, freelance income, part-time income, self-reported side income, and other paid activity. Undisclosed income or false job-seeking reports can lead to recovery of benefits, additional collection, and criminal penalties.

Applications are handled through employment centers and online Worknet or employment-insurance services. Required documents commonly include separation confirmation, identification, bank account information, job-seeking registration, and unemployment recognition attendance or reporting.
