Check payment months before multiplying a monthly allowance by twelve
Plan around applications and birthdays
This calculator estimates the Korean single-parent child-rearing allowance under the 2026 rules.
A flat monthly amount does not mean every child receives twelve payments.
Birthdays, school enrollment, the final high-school academic year and the application month can change the period.
Use the monthly schedule to identify transitions before preparing a household budget.
Eligibility for a single-parent family certificate is a separate question from eligibility for cash support.
Who can use this review
Parents, grandparents caring for grandchildren and relatives helping with an application can organize verified information here.
Results are conditional estimates, not an award or a payment promise.
Save the review and take unresolved questions and supporting records to the local welfare office.
The calculation covers two-to-six-person households and up to five listed children.
2026 basic and additional child support
Basic allowance
For households meeting the recognized-income ceiling of 65% of standard median income and the other requirements, the basic allowance is KRW 230,000 per eligible child per month.
The usual age limit is under 18.
Verified enrollment in school up to high school can extend coverage through December of the final high-school academic year, but never beyond the month before the 22nd birthday.
College enrollment alone does not extend this cash allowance.
Additional allowance
A parent aged 25 through 34 receives an additional KRW 100,000 per month for each child qualifying for the basic allowance.
Grandparent-headed families and unmarried single parents aged 35 or above receive that addition for children aged five or younger.
A qualifying monthly total is therefore KRW 330,000.
The extra allowance is applied once, not stacked.
Being a divorced or bereaved parent aged 35 or above does not by itself create eligibility for the under-six supplement.
Separate programs remain outside the total
Months before the parent turns 25 are marked for review under the separate young-parent scheme.
Pending does not mean no benefit is available.
School-supply support, residential-facility living assistance, self-reliance allowances, local supplements and payments owed by the other parent are not included.
Check each program and its overlap rules separately.
Recognized income is not salary or a bank balance
Use the program assessment
Recognized income equals assessed income plus monthly converted property income.
Assessed income reflects accepted expenses and deductions.
Property conversion reflects the applicable treatment of housing, deposits, financial assets, vehicles and accepted debt.
Do not enter salary or a bank balance as if it were the final assessment, and do not transfer another welfare program’s calculation without checking that the rules match.
Direct entry or verified components
If you know the final monthly recognized income, enter it directly.
Otherwise, enter verified assessed income after deductions and verified monthly converted property income.
The calculator adds those components without deducting allowances again.
Leave unknown amounts blank; enter zero only when the amount is confirmed to be zero.
Published whole-won thresholds are used as listed, with no additional rounding of median income multiplied by 65%.

Verify family type and actual care arrangements
General, unmarried and grandparent-headed families
For the unmarried-parent supplement, having no current spouse is not sufficient on its own.
The official guide distinguishes legal marriage history and includes a marriage declared void; a divorced parent is not automatically an unmarried parent for this purpose.
The local office must also assess relevant de facto relationships and actual care.
Grandparent families have additional requirements concerning the parents’ inability to provide support.
Caring for a grandchild alone does not settle eligibility.
Household membership can change
Include the caregiver in the recognized household size and indicate whether household membership, care and family-type requirements have been verified.
Household size, income, family type and foster-aid status are held constant for the selected period.
A child’s age or enrollment change may change recognized membership and the income ceiling.
Recalculate from the affected month with the revised assessment.
Registered residence headcount alone does not determine membership.
Birthdays and school years determine the last eligible month
Use birthday months
The under-six supplement ends in the month before the sixth birthday.
The ordinary basic allowance ends before the 18th-birthday month; the school extension ends before the 22nd-birthday month at the latest.
An early or late birthday within the same month does not add a payment month.
The parent enters the general program in the 25th-birthday month and leaves the age-25-to-34 supplement band in the 35th-birthday month.
Final academic year is different from graduation year
A student graduating in February 2026 normally had final high-school academic year 2025.
If already 18 or above, January and February 2026 do not qualify for the school extension merely because graduation has not yet taken place.
A student in final academic year 2026 can be assessed through December 2026 if enrollment qualifies.
Confirm leave, withdrawal, return to school or unusual enrollment arrangements with the school and welfare office before entering the recognized period.
Monthly formula and interpretation
A fixed benefit, not income-gap assistance
Monthly basic support equals eligible children multiplied by KRW 230,000.
Monthly extra support equals children meeting the supplement conditions multiplied by KRW 100,000.
The period total sums both amounts from the selected start month through December.
Income excess is the positive part of recognized income minus the household threshold.
Income is not subtracted from the allowance to produce a reduced award, as it might be in a different income-gap benefit.
Pending is different from zero
Unknown income, family requirements, required enrollment or foster-aid status leaves the affected amounts pending.
If any child-month is pending, the overall total is withheld and the calculable subtotal is shown separately.
Zero means the entered conditions produce no calculated payment; pending means further information or a separate scheme review is needed.
The last calculated month refers to this annual table, not the permanent end of all future benefits.
Step-by-step use and application preparation
Enter the household and period
Select the planned application month.
Existing recipients reviewing the full year can select January.
The guide’s full-month calculation from the application month is used, but this does not predict the deposit date or processing time.
Enter household size, parent birth date and family type, then use the verified income assessment and family check status.
Review each child and save the report
Enter each birth date, school status and foster-care maintenance aid status.
If an extension after age 18 is relevant, specify the first and last recognized school months in 2026 and the final high-school academic year.
Check every month where support changes or remains pending.
Save the TXT review, then update the calculation after the school or local office resolves outstanding questions.
Fictional examples checked against the calculation
One of two children turns 18 in July
Assume a general single parent born May 10, 1985, a recognized three-person household and monthly recognized income of KRW 3,000,000.
Children were born March 1, 2016 and July 15, 2008.
Neither uses a school extension, neither receives foster-care aid and all other requirements are verified.
Starting in January, one child has twelve months totaling KRW 2,760,000 and the child reaching the age limit has six months totaling KRW 1,380,000.
The combined total is KRW 4,140,000, with KRW 230,000 per month from July.
This example holds household size fixed; any membership change must be assessed separately.
The supplement ends after June
For an unmarried parent aged 35 or above with a child born July 15, 2020, unchanged qualifying conditions produce KRW 2,760,000 basic support.
Six supplement months through June add KRW 600,000, producing KRW 3,360,000.
A general parent born July 15, 1991 with an eligible ten-year-old child has the same supplement period because the parent turns 35 in July.
Use the transition list to identify whether the parent’s or child’s age causes the change.
Distinguish overlapping aid and related benefits
Foster-care maintenance aid
A child receiving foster-care maintenance aid under the Child Welfare Act is excluded from the basic and extra allowances modeled here.
If unsure, retain Unknown and verify the exact program name instead of assuming No.
Korean livelihood benefits and emergency living assistance are not this foster-care aid and do not automatically exclude the child-rearing allowance.
Certificates, education assistance and private support
A single-parent family certificate does not automatically qualify every child for the cash allowance.
Its education and age scope must be distinguished from the particular payment.
School-supply aid and education-benefit overlap rules are also separate, so do not add those amounts to this annual result without verification.
Support owed by the noncustodial parent, enforcement assistance and government advance-payment programs use different conditions.
Use estimates carefully in a household budget
An estimate is not cash already available
The annual amount assumes eligibility and approval.
Ask the office about assessment, decisions and actual payment timing, and plan food and housing costs during any wait separately.
The calculator does not deduct payments already received, estimate unpaid balances or determine repayments.
Previous-year retroactive payments require that year’s rules and are outside this 2026 calculation.
Report changes promptly
Employment, income, property, household membership and enrollment changes should be reported to the responsible office.
Military-service-related education exceptions, foreign-national households, long overseas stays and administrative suspension or resumption are not decided by this simple schedule.
Do not postpone counseling solely because requirements are unclear; bring a review distinguishing known facts from questions still needing an answer.
Frequently asked questions
What happens exactly at the income threshold?
The 65% ceiling is inclusive, so an equal amount passes the income comparison.
Family, care and child conditions must still be verified.
The allowance is not reduced by the amount of income below or above the limit.
Can a child receive support after turning 18?
Verified school enrollment up to high school can extend coverage through December of the final high-school academic year, ending before the 22nd-birthday month at the latest.
College enrollment alone does not extend this cash allowance.
Is a late-month application prorated?
The verified guide provides the full assessed monthly amount for the month containing a new application.
The calculator includes the start month, while approval, deposit dates and reason-specific suspension decisions remain with the local office.
Why is a 24-year-old parent’s total pending?
The separate young-parent program is outside this general-program calculation.
Pending does not mean ineligible for all support.
Check that scheme through the month before age 25; general-program months from the birthday month can be calculated here.
Are unmarried and divorced the same option?
No.
The unmarried-parent supplement depends on legal marriage history.
Choose General for divorced or bereaved families; verify void marriages and de facto relationship questions with the office.
Do livelihood benefits remove this allowance?
Livelihood benefits alone do not automatically exclude child-rearing support.
Distinguish them from the foster-care maintenance aid exclusion.
Other benefits, such as school supplies or residential living assistance, have their own overlap rules.
What if income or household size changes during the year?
This schedule holds entered conditions constant.
Recalculate from the month of change with the new recognized income, membership and family type.
In particular, ask whether an age cutoff changes the recognized household.
Does saving the report complete an application?
No.
The TXT report organizes assumptions and questions; it does not replace the official application or evidence.
Apply through Bokjiro or the local welfare office.
