Childcare cost calculator guide

This English page translates the Korean childcare cost calculator and calls calculateChildcareCost. It preserves age group, care type, region, cost categories, government supports, net monthly burden, national averages, and savings estimate.

Age and care type

The model separates infant age 0, infant age 1, toddler age 2, preschool age 3 to 5, preschool age 6 to 7, and elementary age. Care type can be daycare, kindergarten, home care, or nanny.

Default cost categories include food, diapers, education institution, private education, medical, clothing, toys and books, culture, transport, insurance, care service, and other items. Required categories differ by age.

Government support

The 2026 support table includes parent allowance of KRW 1,000,000 for age 0 and KRW 500,000 for age 1, child allowance of KRW 100,000, daycare support such as KRW 540,000 for age 0 and KRW 475,000 for age 1, and Nuri-style support around KRW 280,000 for ages 3 to 5.

When a child age 0 or 1 uses daycare, the Korean source offsets daycare support inside parent allowance and pays only the remaining cash portion. That prevents double-counting the same government support.

Net burden and averages

The result subtracts applicable support from gross monthly cost to calculate net monthly and net annual burden. It also compares the net monthly burden with national age-group averages.

Actual support can depend on residence, income review, facility registration, care hours, local government programs, and current notices. Use the calculator as a planning model, then verify eligibility through official welfare channels.
