Pet medical cost calculator guide

This English page translates the Korean pet medical cost calculator and calls createMedicalItems and calculatePetMedicalCost. It preserves preventive, routine, surgery, chronic, emergency, breed-risk, lifetime, and insurance analysis.

Annual medical cost structure

The Korean library builds medical items from the pet profile and annualizes each frequency. Monthly items are multiplied by 12, quarterly items by 4, biannual items by 2, annual items by 1, and one-time items are counted once.

Essential and optional costs are separated by medical category. Vaccination, parasite, heartworm, checkup, dental, surgery, chronic, emergency, and health-screening items remain category-level inputs rather than one generic medical percentage.

Breed, age, and lifetime model

Breed risk profiles add genetic-disease probability and average treatment cost. Age multipliers increase routine and expected surgery cost as the pet ages, while breed lifespan determines the projection window.

The lifetime output includes total lifetime medical cost, average annual cost, monthly reserve recommendation, peak cost age, and peak cost amount. That reserve is useful because pet medical spending is lumpy, not evenly monthly.

Insurance analysis

Insurance analysis compares total premium paid over remaining years with expected reimbursement after deductible, coverage rate, and annual limit. The model returns net saving, break-even years, and whether the modeled insurance is worth it.

Real reimbursement can differ by waiting period, exclusions, pre-existing conditions, hospital invoice coding, renewal age, and claim review. Confirm policy terms before relying on a modeled positive net saving.
