Package structure

The Korean source starts with a base package price, then adds optional exam items that are not already included in that package. National health checkup has a base cost of zero in the model, while private packages use average package prices adjusted by region and facility type.

Package tiers include national, basic, comprehensive basic, comprehensive advanced, and premium. Included items differ by package, so an optional exam can cost zero if it is already part of the chosen package.

Optional exam items

Optional items include gastroscopy, sedated gastroscopy, colonoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, thyroid ultrasound, cardiac ultrasound, carotid ultrasound, breast or prostate ultrasound, chest CT, abdominal CT, brain MRI or MRA, cardiac CT, PET-CT, mammography, cervical cytology, HPV test, bone density, genetic test, stress test, arteriosclerosis test, fundus exam, hearing test, and pulmonary function test.

The calculator counts selected additional items and applies the source package discount tiers. Company subsidy is subtracted after subtotal and discount, capped so it cannot reduce cost below zero.

Tax refund logic

The medical-expense tax-credit estimate uses 3 percent of annual salary as the threshold, a 15 percent credit rate, and a KRW 7,000,000 cap in the source constants. The refund is calculated only on the checkup cost that exceeds the salary threshold.

Private health checkups can be expensive, but a company subsidy, package discount, and tax refund can materially change the final burden. The calculator shows all three instead of only listing the package price.

Use with national screening

The Korean guide reminds users to use national checkup eligibility first. National screening covers general screening every two years for eligible adults and includes cancer-screening items by age and sex, such as gastric screening from 40 and colorectal screening from 50 under the source guide.

A practical approach is to complete national screening items first, then add private exams that match age, sex, family history, symptoms, and risk profile.
