Pet insurance coverage simulator guide

This English page translates the Korean pet insurance coverage simulator and calls calculatePetInsuranceCoverage. It preserves breed risk, age multiplier, weight multiplier, pre-existing multiplier, neutering adjustment, coverage gaps, premium curve, and break-even analysis.

Risk and recommended coverage

The model starts with breed base risk cost, then adjusts for age, weight, neutering status, and pre-existing condition. Dogs under 10 kg, 10 to 25 kg, and over 25 kg use different weight multipliers; cats use their own weight bands.

Coverage levels set recommended per-visit limit, annual limit, self-payment rate, outpatient, inpatient, surgery, dental, patellar, and skin coverage. Basic, standard, premium, and maximum levels are not treated as simple premium multipliers.

Coverage gap and premium curve

If the user already has insurance, the Korean source compares current per-visit limit, annual limit, self-payment rate, and special coverages with the recommended level. The overall gap produces sufficient, adequate, insufficient, or critical coverage grades.

The premium curve projects monthly premium by renewal age. The 2026-style base premiums include examples such as standard dog coverage around KRW 32,000 per month and premium dog coverage around KRW 58,000 before risk adjustments.

Break-even interpretation

Break-even compares insured cumulative cost, including premium and self-payment, with uninsured expected medical cost. The net saving is positive only when expected reimbursements outweigh premium and remaining out-of-pocket cost.

Coverage decisions should also review exclusions for dental, patellar luxation, skin disease, pre-existing conditions, renewal age, claim limits, and insurer-specific waiting periods.
