Purpose determines coverage

The Korean source separates diagnostic endoscopy, national screening, and general private checkup. Diagnostic exams use covered exam full fees multiplied by the copay rate. National gastric cancer screening has a small screening copay, and general private checkup exam fees are treated as non-covered.

If biopsy or polypectomy occurs during screening, that treatment part can become claimable in the model even if the screening exam itself is not claimable under private insurance. This distinction is central to the Korean page.

Sedation and treatment add-ons

Sedation is modeled as a non-covered cost adjusted by exam type, region, and hospital type. Bowel preparation is added when colonoscopy is included. Biopsy uses covered full fee and copay. Simple polypectomy starts from KRW 150,000 and adds KRW 70,000 for each additional polyp in the source model. ESD uses KRW 1,800,000 before copay.

The source also keeps the national gastric screening normal copay at KRW 6,000 for normal subscribers. Medical aid or low-income cases can be treated differently by the insurance type override.

Private insurance and tax

Private insurance reimbursement depends on claimability, generation, inpatient or outpatient classification, deductible, and per-visit outpatient cap. The calculator reports whether the model treats the case as claimable and how much reimbursement is estimated.

After private insurance reimbursement, medical-expense tax credit is estimated with the 3 percent salary threshold and 15 percent rate. Final cost is after insurance and tax refund.

Safety and scheduling notes

Sedation makes the exam easier for many patients but requires recovery time and a same-day driving restriction. Colonoscopy requires bowel preparation, and ESD or complex polypectomy can require admission and complication monitoring.
