What is the health age and life expectancy calculator?

This calculator estimates health age, biological age, and personalized life expectancy from lifestyle, body indicators, family history, and chronic-disease status. It keeps the Korean source page’s reference frame, including the Statistics Korea 2024 life table and domestic health research.

The 2024 Korean life table gives average life expectancy of men 80.8 years and women 86.6 years. Health life expectancy is 65.5 years, while overall life expectancy is 83.7 years, leaving an 18.2-year gap lived with disease or disability.

Eight-domain score

The calculator converts BMI, smoking, alcohol, exercise, diet, sleep, stress, and family history or chronic disease into a 0 to 100 health score and an improvement roadmap.

Lifestyle adjustments used by the model

Body composition and smoking

  • Normal BMI is 18.5 to 24.9. Underweight below 18.5 applies about -1.5 years, overweight 25 to 29.9 applies about -1.5 years, and obesity 30 or higher applies about -4 years.
  • Abdominal obesity uses waist 90 cm or higher for men and 85 cm or higher for women.
  • A current smoker at 20 cigarettes per day loses about 7 years in the source model. Past smokers who quit 5 years or more ago apply about -1 year, while 30 or more cigarettes per day can apply about -10 years.
  • Smoking risk approaches a non-smoker level after 5 years of quitting, so the roadmap treats quitting as a high-priority intervention.

Alcohol, exercise, diet, sleep, and stress

  • Weekly alcohol intake of 14 or more drinks applies about -2 to -3 years; 21 or more weekly drinks applies about -5 to -6 years.
  • WHO adult exercise guidance is 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week. Regular exercise can add 3 to 4 years, while sedentary life can reduce 2 to 3 years.
  • A vegetable, fruit, and whole-grain centered diet adds about 2 to 3 years. Mediterranean-style diet adherence is associated with 4 to 7 years longer life on average.
  • Seven to 8 hours of sleep is the optimal adult range. Chronic sleep of 5 hours or less can reduce life expectancy by 2 to 3 years; persistent oversleeping of 9 hours or more can also be negative.
  • Effective stress and mental-health management can add about 1 to 2 years.

Family history and chronic disease

  • If both parents lived past 80, the model can add about 2 to 3 years as a longevity-family signal.
  • Existing chronic disease can move health age sharply away from calendar age, so the calculator separates prevention advice from disease-management advice.
  • The source includes six presets so users can compare a sedentary office worker, smoker, balanced exerciser, and other typical profiles quickly.
