Glaucoma Surgery Cost Calculator

Glaucoma Surgery Cost Calculator helps estimate Korea-related eye treatment, surgery, injection, support, and recovery-cost scenarios in English.

Glaucoma procedure inputs

Glaucoma surgery cost

Final practical cost

₩176,000

After modeled indemnity and tax credit.

Before insurance or tax

₩880,000

Patient-paid amount before reimbursements.

Private insurance estimate

₩704,000

Uses the Korean indemnity-generation formula.

Tax credit estimate

₩0

Medical expense credit after the 3% salary threshold.

Cost range

₩149,600 - ₩211,200

Low and high estimate from the source model.

Applied NHI copay

20%

Covered-care patient copay rate.

Device self-pay

₩0

Valve selective benefit or non-covered MIGS stent.

Cataract add-on self-pay

₩0

Covered monofocal assumption.

After private insurance, before tax

₩176,000

This is the amount used for the medical expense tax-credit calculation.

The source distinguishes covered laser procedures, ordinary inpatient glaucoma operations, 80% selective-benefit valve devices, and fully non-covered MIGS stents. Inpatient treatment-purpose surgery is not capped like premium cataract outpatient lens claims.

This English version follows the Korean glaucoma guide. It keeps the same procedure table, NHI copay logic, valve and stent handling, admission costs, and private-insurance generation rules.

Procedure fees in the Korean model

The Korean source separates outpatient laser procedures from operating-room glaucoma surgery. Selective laser trabeculoplasty is modeled at KRW 400,000 and laser peripheral iridotomy at KRW 250,000 before the applicable NHI copay.

Trabeculectomy is modeled with a KRW 2,200,000 covered surgery fee. Tube shunt surgery uses KRW 2,500,000 for surgery plus a KRW 1,800,000 valve, with the valve treated as an 80 percent selective benefit in the Korean calculation. MIGS keeps a smaller covered procedure fee but adds a KRW 2,500,000 non-covered stent cost.

  • Outpatient copays follow clinic, hospital, general hospital, and tertiary hospital levels.
  • Inpatient surgery uses the same admission-room defaults as the Korean calculation.
  • Combined cataract surgery is handled as a source-model option instead of a flat English surcharge.

Insurance interpretation

Glaucoma surgery is treatment for an eye disease, so the Korean guide distinguishes it from elective refractive surgery. Covered glaucoma treatment can be reimbursed by indemnity medical insurance depending on generation, deductible, and whether the charge is covered or non-covered.

A non-covered MIGS stent or an upper-room upgrade can leave a much larger patient payment than the base covered surgery fee suggests. The English calculator therefore shows the insured self-pay, non-covered total, reimbursement estimate, after-insurance cost, and tax credit separately.

Clinical planning notes

The Korean content emphasizes that glaucoma cost should be viewed together with lifetime disease control. Laser can be less invasive, trabeculectomy can lower pressure strongly but requires follow-up, tube shunts are often used in complex cases, and MIGS is less invasive but can be limited by non-covered device cost.

The estimate does not replace a treatment decision. Visual-field damage, optic nerve status, eye pressure target, medication burden, cataract status, and prior surgery history decide the procedure.
