Cost formulas used by the calculator

Print cost equals pages multiplied by copy sets and cost per page.
The model adds postage per signer, trips multiplied by cost per trip, archive cost, and the labor value of preparation, tracking, and expected rework minutes.

Electronic variable cost per attempt

Electronic cost adds the transaction fee, signer identity cost, API cost, archive cost, other per-contract charges, and electronic-workflow labor.
Monthly platform and administration costs remain fixed, so the allocated cost per electronic contract can rise when adoption or volume is low.

Paper-only TCO versus hybrid TCO

Paper-only TCO assumes every attempted contract stays in the paper or in-person workflow.
Hybrid TCO combines the remaining paper volume, electronic variable costs, fixed platform and administration costs, and net initial investment.
Completion and earlier-cash benefits stay outside operating TCO so that a commercial assumption cannot disguise a high process cost.

How the model avoids overstating commercial benefits

1. Completion improvement receives an attribution factor

A drop from 6% paper abandonment to 3% electronic abandonment does not prove that the system caused the full three-percentage-point difference.
The calculator applies the user-entered attribution rate and multiplies recovered completions by contribution profit, not revenue.

2. Earlier cash receives only a timing value

Receiving $10,000 three days earlier does not create a $10,000 benefit.
The model multiplies common completed volume by cash per completion, days saved divided by 365, annual cost of funds, realization, and adoption.
Incremental completions are excluded from that common-volume base because their contribution profit is already counted separately.

3. Saved time is not automatically cash

Fewer minutes do not automatically produce headcount reduction or cash savings.
Confirm whether the released capacity changes throughput, overtime, outsourcing, response time, rework, or another measurable outcome, then reduce the labor value when evidence is weak.

  3. Map the electronic target. Include templates, identity checks, exceptions, API work, archive, and export obligations

  5. Validate commercial assumptions. Set abandonment and cash benefits to zero until comparable evidence exists
  6. Model delay and ramp. Do not assume full target adoption on the first day of the project
  7. Read base and downside together. Attach single-variable and combined downside results to the investment case

Reading the independent USD example

The English defaults are an independent USD illustration, not a currency conversion of the Korean example and not a market benchmark.
Replace every price, labor rate, volume, delay, adoption, completion, and cash assumption with internal records and current vendor terms.

Monthly operating view

Compare paper-only monthly cost, target hybrid cost, workflow savings, recovered-completion benefit, earlier-cash value, and steady-state net benefit.

Investment view

Design a measurable pilot

A useful pilot compares similar contract groups, values, counterparties, and owner experience instead of comparing two unrelated calendar months.
Capture send time, first open, completion, exception, resend, abandonment reason, payment date, and staff handling time with the same definitions in both workflows.

  1. Classify four to eight weeks of baseline attempts into the three contract groups
  2. Measure task time with the same start and stop rules
  3. Record differences in contract complexity, value, counterparty, and owner
  4. Tag which template, reminder, API, and identity features were active
  5. Update adoption, exceptions, handling time, cycle time, abandonment, and invoices at weeks four, eight, and twelve
  6. Recalculate the decision with the observed variance or an approved downside percentage

Korean electronic-document and signature boundary

The Korean Framework Act on Electronic Documents and Transactions was checked through the official law API on August 12, 2026.
Article 4 states the general rule that legal effect cannot be denied solely because a document is electronic, while Article 4-2 addresses viewability and reproducible preservation for writing requirements and preserves exceptions under other laws or the nature of the document.
Article 5 addresses conditions for electronic preservation, including information needed to identify the writer, recipient, and transmission or receipt timing.

Article 3 of Korea’s Electronic Signature Act provides that effect cannot be denied solely because a signature is electronic and addresses signatures selected under law or party agreement.
These general rules do not automatically satisfy contract-specific identity, authority, explanation, delivery, notarization, face-to-face, original-document, retention, evidence, or special-law requirements.
The calculator does not score legal validity and leaves authentication, evidence, archive, export, and legal-review cost for the user to verify and enter.

Sensitivity scenarios and model limits

The sensitivity table lowers paper direct-cost savings, labor savings, or commercial benefits, raises vendor cost, and combines adverse assumptions by the percentage you enter.
That percentage is not a confidence interval, so replace it with quote uncertainty, pilot variance, or a procurement-approved range.

Frequently asked questions

What belongs in initial implementation cost?

Include vendor setup, templates, integration, training, legal and security review, internal requirements, testing, migration, change management, and pilot labor. Keep subscription and transaction charges in recurring cost.

Can I count the full contract value as a benefit?

No. Use only the timing value for cash on contracts completed in both workflows. Apply attribution and contribution profit, not revenue, to contracts recovered from the abandonment-rate difference.

What if I have no abandonment evidence?

Set paper and electronic abandonment equal or set contribution profit to zero. Test whether verified process savings alone support the decision, then update the model after a comparable pilot.

Does the platform fee start during a zero-adoption month?

The model conservatively charges monthly platform and administration cost from month one. Adjust the inputs when a free pilot or later billing start is documented in the contract.

How is operating break-even different from target-payback volume?

Operating break-even covers recurring fixed cost at steady-state adoption. Target-payback volume includes initial cost, delay, ramp, escalation, discounting, and the selected target month.

Does Korean electronic-document law mean every contract can be converted?

No. General electronic-document and signature rules coexist with contract-specific special rules, agreed signature methods, identity and authority controls, delivery, explanation, notarization, face-to-face, original, and retention requirements.

Why do the Korean and English defaults produce different results?

Both interfaces use the same pure calculation engine, but the examples are independent. The Korean page uses a KRW illustration and the English page uses a USD illustration, so parity should be tested with identical inputs.
