Korean light-car tax, fuel, toll, and parking benefits

This English guide follows the Korean calculator logic and preserves the Korean rates, thresholds, vehicle classifications, and administrative assumptions used by the source page.

Acquisition tax and annual fuel-tax refund

For Korean light passenger cars, the calculator applies the acquisition-tax exemption cap of KRW 750,000 through the source sunset period. Light vans and light trucks use full exemption treatment in the source data rather than the passenger-car cap logic.

The fuel-tax refund model applies the KRW 300,000 annual fuel-tax refund cap. Gasoline and diesel use KRW 250 per liter, while LPG uses KRW 161 per liter. Eligibility also depends on household ownership conditions.

  • The default light passenger car is KRW 14 million, 999 cc, gasoline, and 12,000 km per year.
  • Fuel use is annual mileage divided by fuel efficiency.
  • A truck can be ineligible for the refund path even if other light-car benefits apply.

Toll, parking, congestion charge, and car tax

The source applies a 50 percent highway toll discount, 50 percent public parking discount, and 50 percent congestion-charge discount to the entered monthly spending amounts. These recurring savings are annualized in the result.

Annual car-tax savings compare the light-car per-cc rule with the selected comparison displacement. The model uses per-cc amounts and then includes the 30 percent local education tax component in the annual tax comparison.
