South Korea jurisdiction and source date

This calculator is designed for passenger-car window tint planning in South Korea. Published product prices come from a manufacturer brochure dated November 11, 2025. The Road Traffic Act and its Enforcement Decree were verified through the Korean National Law Information Center OPEN API on July 24, 2026. A shop quote, product warranty, measured visible light transmission, and safe driver visibility always take priority over this planning estimate.

Compare the complete tint job, not one film price

A car-window-tint quote can change with vehicle size, curved glass, windshield and side-rear coverage, sunroof area, old-film removal, installer policy, tax treatment, and warranty scope. Two shops may use the same product name but quote different totals because one amount includes removal or a panoramic roof while the other does not.

This tool separates those cost drivers. You can begin with a traceable S7 or S9 published-price preset, or enter the windshield and side-rear portions of your own written quote. The result shows a reference total, a transparent planning range, a cost bridge, an annualized amount, a condition-based inspection signal, and a preliminary visible light transmission check.

Traceable price anchor

Use one dated manufacturer brochure as a comparison reference, without presenting it as a nationwide market average.

Replacement planning

Adjust a user-selected service-life target for parking, operating environment, current age, and visible film condition.

VLT safety pre-check

Approximate the finished windshield and driver-side front-window VLT before arranging a meter reading of the installed assembly.

Published price reference used by the calculator

The table below reproduces the PHANTOM S7 and S9 prices published by Rayno Korea for three vehicle groups. It is not a survey of all Korean installers or brands, and it does not prove what your vehicle should cost. Its purpose is to provide a dated, auditable comparison anchor while the custom mode accepts your own written quote.

S9 MPV or vanKRW 450,000KRW 720,000KRW 1,170,000

The source brochure prices a standard sunroof at 40% of the windshield amount and a panoramic sunroof at 80%. Removal charges can vary by vehicle and old-film condition, and unusually difficult work may cost more. The calculator therefore leaves removal and a confirmed difficulty surcharge as user inputs rather than inventing a national rate.

What each input means

Vehicle, price basis, and coverage

  • Vehicle type: passenger car, SUV, or MPV and van selects the matching published price row
  • Price basis: S7 and S9 use the dated brochure, while custom mode uses your windshield and side-rear quote
  • Coverage: choose windshield only, side and rear only, or the complete windshield plus side-rear package
  • Sunroof: none, standard, or panoramic adds the source ratio based on the selected windshield amount

Removal and difficult-work amounts

  • Old-film removal: enter the separate KRW charge shown by the installer, including zero only when removal is unnecessary or expressly included
  • Difficulty surcharge: enter a percentage only when the shop confirms a rate for curved glass, residue, access, or another vehicle-specific condition
  • A flat surcharge already embedded in a written quote should stay in the custom windshield or side-rear amount, avoiding duplicate entry

Service-life planning

  • Target service life: your planning horizon from 1 to 15 years, not an automatic warranty entitlement
  • Current film age: completed months since installation, capped at 300 months for a stable planning range
  • Parking: mostly indoor, mixed, or mostly outdoor adjusts the target for expected sunlight and heat exposure
  • Operating environment: high heat, coastal salt, or persistent humidity applies an additional conservative factor
  • Condition: fading reduces the planning cycle, while bubbles, lifting, edge peeling, haze, or severe scratches create an immediate inspection signal

Visible light transmission inputs

  • Factory glass VLT: the measured or documented percentage for the untreated vehicle glass
  • Film VLT: the nominal product percentage for the film under consideration
  • Enter the windshield and driver-side front-window values separately because their legal thresholds differ
  • If a pane is outside the selected coverage, the calculator treats the new-film VLT as 100% and checks factory glass alone

Cost formulas and transparent assumptions

Coverage base

Windshield-only uses the windshield amount, side-rear-only uses the side-rear amount, and full coverage adds both. This rule works the same for a published preset and a custom quote.

Sunroof and difficulty

Sunroof cost equals windshield amount multiplied by 0%, 40%, or 80%. The difficulty rate applies to coverage plus sunroof and is rounded to the nearest KRW 1,000.

Reference total

Reference total equals coverage base plus sunroof plus difficulty surcharge plus old-film removal. A required custom quote of zero also produces a visible missing-amount warning.

Planning range

The calculator applies ±10% to coverage, sunroof, and difficulty, rounds that variable portion to KRW 1,000, and then adds the fixed removal amount. This is an explicit budget allowance, not a statistical confidence interval.

There is no fabricated nationwide average in this model. If another brand, shop, or vehicle uses a different structure, choose custom mode and enter the written windshield and side-rear amounts. Keep the source date and warranty terms beside every quote you compare.

Worked cost examples

The first example selects S7 passenger-car full coverage with no sunroof, removal, or difficulty surcharge. The total is therefore KRW 320,000 plus KRW 530,000, or KRW 850,000. The second example selects S9 SUV full coverage, adds a panoramic roof at 80% of the KRW 430,000 windshield amount, applies a confirmed 10% difficulty rate to KRW 1,474,000, rounds that surcharge to KRW 147,000, and finally adds KRW 100,000 removal for a KRW 1,721,000 reference total.

How the replacement-cycle estimate works

South Korean traffic law does not set one mandatory replacement interval for every automotive film. A product warranty is also not a promise that optical and heat-rejection performance will remain identical for that entire period. The calculator therefore presents a planning model whose factors are visible and editable.

Window-tint replacement planning factors and their meaning
Planning choiceFactorInterpretation
Mostly indoor parking1.10Longer inspection horizon assumption
Mixed parking1.00Neutral planning baseline
Mostly outdoor parking0.85Earlier inspection for sun and heat exposure
Normal conditions1.00No additional climate adjustment
High heat, salt, or humidity0.90Earlier inspection under harsher exposure
Fading or weaker heat rejection0.85Reduced current-film cycle

Continue monitoring

The film is marked good and has more than 12 estimated months remaining. Annual visual and visibility checks still matter.

Inspect within a year

The film is fading or has 12 or fewer estimated months left. Arrange a professional condition and meter check before budgeting.

Inspect or replace now

The cycle has expired, or the film has bubbles, lifting, edge peeling, haze, or severe scratches that may impair visibility.

New-film cycle equals target years multiplied by 12, parking factor, and operating-environment factor. The current-film cycle applies the condition factor and subtracts completed months. Annualized cost divides the reference total by the new-film planning cycle expressed in years. These results help schedule inspection and budget cash; they do not diagnose film chemistry or create a warranty claim.

South Korean VLT thresholds: 70% and 40%

Road Traffic Act Article 49 prohibits driving a vehicle whose windshield or driver-side front windows are made too dark under the threshold prescribed by Presidential Decree. Enforcement Decree Article 28 specifies 70% visible light transmission for the windshield and 40% for the left and right windows beside the driver. The police may order removal or another corrective measure under Article 49.

Why nominal film VLT is not the finished result

The calculator uses factory-glass VLT multiplied by nominal film VLT, divided by 100. For example, 80% glass with an 88% windshield film gives an approximate 70.4% finished VLT. The same 80% glass with a 50% driver-side film gives 40%. A film labelled 70% on 80% glass would approximate only 56%, not 70%.

This multiplication is a screening approximation. Factory privacy tint, functional glass, product tolerance, contamination, installation, and meter tolerance can change the finished reading. Ask the installer to measure the completed glass-and-film assembly, and place night and rain visibility ahead of a cosmetic darkness target.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Select the vehicle group that matches the published brochure classification, or use the group stated by the installer
  2. Choose S7, S9, or custom mode and separate a written quote into windshield and side-rear amounts
  3. Select actual coverage and the sunroof type, then add old-film removal and only a confirmed difficulty percentage
  4. Enter a realistic service-life target, current film age, parking pattern, harsh exposure, and visible condition
  5. Obtain glass and film VLT data for the windshield and driver-side front windows rather than reusing one percentage for every pane
  6. Compare the reference total, planning range, annualized cost, replacement status, and VLT warnings with the written quote
  7. Before payment, confirm tax, product code, coverage, warranty issuer, exclusions, removal liability, and post-installation meter readings

Practical use cases

New-car delivery package

Ask for the exact film line, VLT, covered panes, warranty issuer, and cash-equivalent value. Compare the package with a separately purchased installation rather than treating a service item as automatically free.

Used vehicle with unknown film age

When the installation date is unknown, prioritize haze, bubbles, lifting, night vision, meter readings, and an itemised removal quote. Do not manufacture a precise age merely to obtain a result.

Comparing several installers

Normalize every quote into windshield, side-rear, sunroof, removal, and special work. Add warranty exclusions, receipt and tax treatment, reinstallation labor, and measurement service to the same comparison sheet.

Long-term ownership budget

Add annualized tint cost to maintenance planning and schedule a condition check before the calculated month. Outdoor parking may justify an earlier inspection, but only observed condition and measured performance justify a replacement decision.

Quote checklist and cautions

  • Record the exact manufacturer, product line, shade or VLT, pane coverage, vehicle group, and installation date
  • Confirm whether VAT, card payment, receipt issuance, old-film removal, and sunroof work are included
  • Ask who legally provides the warranty, what happens if the shop closes, and whether labor is included in reinstallation
  • Review exclusions for fading, color shift, edge lift, bubbles, scratches, defroster damage, antenna damage, and owner transfer
  • Compare total solar energy rejection and ultraviolet claims only when the products use comparable test methods
  • Request finished-assembly VLT readings for the windshield and both windows beside the driver
  • Check clear nighttime and wet-weather vision from the actual driving position before accepting the vehicle

Frequently asked questions

Is there a mandatory replacement interval for every tint film

No single statutory interval applies to every automotive tint film. Use warranty terms, installation records, visible condition, driving visibility, and measured performance to plan inspection and replacement.

Is the calculated amount an installer quotation

No. Published presets are dated comparison references and the ±10% band is an explicit planning allowance. A vehicle-specific written quote with tax, work scope, warranty, and exclusions controls the transaction.

Does a film labelled 70% satisfy the windshield rule

Not necessarily. The finished windshield must meet 70%, while factory glass absorbs some light before the film is added. An 80% factory windshield with nominal 70% film approximates 56%, so a meter reading of the installed assembly is essential.

Why does the sunroof use a percentage of windshield price

The selected official brochure specifies 40% of windshield price for a standard sunroof and 80% for a panoramic roof. Another brand or shop may use a flat price or different size rule, so custom quote mode is more accurate when those amounts are available.

Does a ten-year warranty guarantee ten years of identical performance

No. A warranty covers defined defects under stated conditions and exclusions. It is not an unconditional performance-life promise. Read the issuer, claim process, fading tolerance, transferable status, and labor coverage in the warranty document.

What if the old film has bubbles or obstructs vision

The calculator produces an immediate inspection or replacement signal regardless of nominal age. Arrange safe removal and check potential defroster or antenna damage before driving visibility deteriorates further.

Official references and model provenance

The legal and product sources were cross-checked on July 24, 2026. Model constants, worked examples, edge cases, and update triggers are recorded in the calculator requirements document. Recheck the source material and obtain current written quotes whenever prices, laws, product lines, or warranty terms change.

Put every tint quote on the same comparison sheet

Enter vehicle type, coverage, sunroof, removal, condition, and VLT data to expose the cost bridge and inspection questions before you commit. Use the result as a conversation checklist, then rely on the installer contract, warranty, finished VLT measurements, and safe real-world visibility.
