Check film width and continuous sheet length before area
This greenhouse film calculator converts measured cover sections into required widths, cut lengths, roll counts and remaining material.
It is intended for replacing film on an existing single-span structure, with roof and side sections measured separately.
It helps reveal orders that contain enough total area but cannot provide the required continuous sheets.
Rolls with the same area can have different usable widths and lengths.
Save the cutting worksheet and ask your supplier to confirm the measurements, unfolded width, fixing allowances and sheet counts before placing an order.
Results describe material quantities under your inputs; they do not approve installation suitability or structural safety.
Measure the roof arc and side cover separately
Roof cover
Enter the distance along the frame between the chosen attachment reference points.
Do not enter the straight floor width, and do not assume that the roof is a semicircle.
A line laid over the frame can establish the actual covering route, provided the measurement can be taken safely.
Side cover
For separate side film, use the measured cover height as width and the length along the greenhouse as the run.
Identical sides can share a row with twice the sheet count.
Different heights, winding arrangements or products need separate rows.
Avoid adding sides again if they are already included in the roof measurement.
Gable ends, doors and vents are separate measurement tasks.
Only add rectangular sections that you have already separated into a practical cutting plan.
The calculator does not unfold complex junctions or multi-span structures automatically.
Distinguish fixing allowances from total overlap
Per-edge values and a total value
- Width fixing allowance is entered for one edge and added at both edges.
- Length allowance is entered for one end and added at both ends before rounding.
- Width overlap is the total allocated to this section and is added once.
- Account for any side winding or burial requirements in the measured installation plan.
Do not enter an allowance again if it is already included in your measurement.
Also avoid relying on incidental spare sale width instead of recording the required fixing allowance: changing to another roll width would change that spare material.
Keep the measured cover dimensions and the installation additions separate in your records.
Agree with the installer how the overlap between adjoining sheets should be allocated to each row.
The example allowances are not installation recommendations.
Understand the quoted roll specification
Unfolded sale width
Use the fully unfolded single-sheet width, not the folded shipping width or a tube lay-flat measurement.
If the required width exceeds it, the row is marked as impossible.
No rotation or joining is used to make a narrow roll fit.
Usable roll length
Enter the continuous usable length available from one roll.
Confirm defects, damage and supplier length tolerances separately.
Lengths remaining on different rolls cannot be combined into a longer continuous sheet.
Cut-length increment
The required length, including end allowances, is rounded up to a multiple of your agreed cutting increment.
Rounding can make a sheet too long for a roll even when its unrounded length would fit.
This increment is not a blade kerf; cutting loss is not added separately.
Price per roll
Enter a confirmed quote in KRW for the specified width and roll length.
Do not enter a price per metre, square metre or kilogram as the roll price.
A zero means unknown, not free.
Use consistent tax-inclusion conditions; delivery and installation are separate costs.
Width, cut length and roll-count formulas
- Required width = measured width + 2 × width allowance + total overlap.
- Unrounded length = greenhouse run + 2 × end allowance.
- Cut length = ceil(unrounded length / increment) × increment.
- Maximum sheets per roll = floor(roll length / cut length).
- Rolls required = ceil(sheet quantity / maximum sheets per roll).
Both width and continuous length must fit before a row can receive a roll count.
Inputs accept up to three decimal places in metres and are compared as integer millimetres.
For example, three 60m sheets require 3 rolls of 100m, because only one sheet fits in each roll.
Dividing the combined 180m requirement by 100m would incorrectly suggest two rolls.
Earlier rolls receive the maximum sheet count and the last roll receives the remaining sheets.
Rows are independent orders.
This is not a mixed-length cutting optimizer, and leftovers are not automatically transferred to other sections.
From measurements to a saved order worksheet
- Mark the measurement boundaries for the roof, sides and any separately planned rectangular sections. Group only identical products and cut lengths.
- Enter per-edge and per-end allowances plus the allocated total overlap. Use the actual sheet quantity for multiple houses or layers.
- Copy the unfolded width, usable roll length, cut increment and per-roll quote from the supplier. Put product codes and thickness notes in the section name.
- Calculate and resolve rows that cannot fit first. Missing prices prevent a complete quote even when sheet counts are valid.
- Save the TXT worksheet and confirm the per-roll cutting pattern and tails. Changing an input clears the previous result; calculate again before saving.
Fictional example: three roof sheets and six side sheets
Roof A
Start with an 8m measured arc and a 30m run, add 0.25m per width edge, 0.2m total overlap and 0.5m per end.
The required width is 8.7m and the cut length is 31m, unchanged by a 0.5m increment.
A 9m-wide, 100m-long roll yields all three sheets and leaves a 7m tail.
Width trim is 27.9m² and tail area is 63m², leaving 90.9m² in total.
Side B
Start with a 1.5m side height and 30m run, add 0.1m per width edge and 0.5m per end, with no overlap.
Six sheets of required width 1.7m and cut length 31m need two 2m-wide, 100m-long rolls.
Combined tails are 14m long.
Width trim is 55.8m² and tail area is 28m², leaving 83.8m².
The combined order is 3 rolls and 1,300m², with 174.7m² remaining as width trim and tails.
Fictional quotes of KRW 300,000 per roof roll and KRW 80,000 per side roll give a total of KRW 460,000.
These are not market prices; the default inputs leave all prices unknown.
Do not copy the example allowances without checking your own fixing arrangement.
Interpret trim, tails and shortages
Width trim is the difference between sale width and required width, multiplied by cut length and sheet count.
A tail is the length left at the end of a roll after cutting its allocated sheets.
The final roll may leave a different tail from earlier rolls.
Required cut area includes fixing allowances, overlaps and length rounding, so it is not the bare roof area.
Ordered area = required cut area + width trim area + tail area
This identity accounts for all purchased material.
Remaining area is neither a disposal estimate nor a promise of reusable stock.
Width, thickness, orientation, condition and storage requirements still determine whether an offcut can be useful.
If even one row fails the width or length check, overall rolls and costs are withheld.
Valid rows remain visible for review but are not presented as a complete order.
When changing the sale width, also update the quote to match the new product specification.
Practical replacement scenarios
Several identical houses
Increase the quantity only after confirming matching measured arcs, runs, products and fixings.
Extensions and end frames can change dimensions even on similar-looking houses.
Splitting identical cuts across separate rows can increase roll counts because each row rounds independently.
Side-only replacement
Remove the unused roof example and enter only the sides being replaced.
Check the winding and lower fixing portions as well as the visible cover height.
A changed supplier specification
Keep your verified required dimensions and enter the new sale width, roll length and quote.
A repeated product name does not guarantee identical thickness or performance, so confirm those details separately.
Limits to check before ordering
- No wind pressure, snow load, frame deformation, film tension or disaster-resistance certification assessment.
- No crop-specific film recommendation or assessment of thickness, insulation, light transmission or anti-drip performance.
- No parallel strips across the width, rotation, joining or cross-row offcut reuse. This does not guarantee the globally minimum number of rolls.
- No automatic stretch, shrinkage, blade loss, product tolerance or damage estimate. Confirm usable length and allowances first.
- No delivery, labour, fixing hardware, removal or old-film disposal costs. No automatic tax addition.
All dimensions are in metres; convert centimetres before entering them.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the greenhouse floor width?
The roof needs the measured distance over the frame.
A semicircle inferred from floor width and height can be wrong for the actual structure.
Are fixing allowances and overlap both doubled?
Only per-edge width and per-end length allowances are doubled.
The allocated total width overlap is added once.
Can I double the quantity for two layers?
Only when both layers have the same product, measured path and fixing requirements.
Enter different inner and outer films separately.
Does extra width produce several parallel sheets?
No.
This tool cuts one sheet across the roll width at a time.
Confirm side-by-side layouts or rotation through a separate supplier cutting plan.
Can leftover lengths reduce the roll count?
Separate tails are not joined to form a longer sheet.
Reuse on another section and joining suitability are not determined automatically.
Why is there no total price?
Zero means a missing quote.
Every row needs a price for a complete cost; a width or length failure withholds overall order totals entirely.
Does the calculator select the best film width or product?
It checks your entered sale width against the required width.
It does not recommend the cheapest specification, crop suitability or insulation performance.
What should I confirm with the supplier?
Check unfolded single-sheet width, usable roll length, product code, thickness, fixing and overlap allocation, cutting increment, per-roll sheet counts and tax conditions.
Ask separately about delivery and labour.
