1. Area and working capacity
1 ha = 10,000 m². Daily hours include time for transport and setup. Total preparation is added once; fuel is charged only for productive hours.

The rate is always per 1,000 m². Use the larger of area-based and minimum fees, then add transport and extras. For an all-inclusive flat quote, set the rate to zero, enter the quote as the minimum fee, and leave included extras at zero.

Work area, productive capacity and the time needed to collect, prepare and return equipment determine how many working days you need.
Rain or inaccessible fields may extend possession even when the machine is idle.
This calculator compares working days, calendar possession days, completion dates and cash costs for one identical farm operation.
It is designed for small farms, farmers operating rented equipment and family members helping arrange agricultural work in Korea.
Costs remain in KRW and the Korean program context was checked on 2026-09-15.

Understanding area, capacity and preparation time
Area actually being worked
Enter the area covered by this operation, rather than all land you own.
Choose square metres or hectares: 1 ha = 10,000 m².
Changing the unit also converts the entered area.
If fields have substantially different conditions, calculate similar fields together instead of hiding the differences in a single average.
Productive hourly capacity
This is the area processed during one hour of actual machine work.
Use manufacturer data with its stated test conditions or measurements from a comparable field.
Maximum advertised performance can understate the required days when field shape, turning or crop conditions differ.
Engine power or horsepower is not an area-per-hour capacity.
Available hours per day
These are the hours you can actually devote to the operation, including transport and setup.
A rental center being open does not make all those hours available for your work.
Allow for breaks, other commitments, first-day collection and final-day return.
The model assumes equal hours each working day; use a conservative value or split the plan when daily hours vary substantially.
Total preparation and transport
Add collection, attachment and checks, travel between fields, cleaning and return time.
The entered total is added once to the whole job.
Include the expected total for repeated daily setup and revisit it if the calculated number of days changes.
Fuel for these activities is not calculated automatically; put the associated cash expense in transport or other costs.
From required working days to a completion date
Calculation sequence
- Productive hours = work area ÷ productive capacity per hour
- Total hours = productive hours + total preparation, transport and return hours
- Required working days = ceil(total hours ÷ available daily hours)
- Count that many available working dates from pickup, skipping entered unavailable dates
Rounding up means even a partially used final day counts as one working day.
Expand the daily schedule to see which unavailable dates extend the plan.
Completion on the deadline itself counts as on time; subsequent dates are shown as calendar days late.
A separately confirmed rental limit is compared with all possession days, including both pickup and completion dates.
Unavailable dates should represent site dates when neither option can work.
Reflect the contractor’s existing bookings in its earliest start date and equipment availability in the rental pickup date.
Weekends and public holidays are not excluded automatically, and no weather forecast is fetched.
Unlisted dates are assumed available even after the deadline, so a late completion date is conditional on those later dates remaining workable.
Rental, transport, fuel and custom work charges
Self-operated rental cash cost
Rental cash = daily fee × billed days + round-trip transport + productive hours × hourly fuel cost + other cash expenses.
The default bills every calendar day from collection through completion.
Select working-day billing only if the provider confirms that actual arrangement.
If the pickup date is unavailable for field work, it still counts as a day possessing the equipment.
Custom work cash cost
Choose the larger of area ÷ 1,000 × quoted rate and the minimum work fee, then add transport and extras.
The minimum fee is a floor, not a second charge added to the area-based price.
For an all-inclusive flat quote, set the rate to zero and enter the total as the minimum fee.
Do not add transport or fuel again if it is already included in that total.
Cash line items are rounded to whole KRW before being added.
Own time value equals total hours multiplied by your chosen hourly value and is shown separately from cash spending.
Rental including own time adds that reference amount to rental cash cost.
Avoid double-counting family labor already entered as paid labor, and separately consider any substantial time needed to supervise a contractor.
How to use the calculator
- Align the work scope: check whether both quotes cover only tillage or also levelling, residue handling or other tasks.
Similar quote names can hide different quality or included operations. - Enter area and capacity: use the actual field area and hourly capacity with realistic daily hours.
Add the full preparation, collection and return time once. - Set the working window: enter the available pickup date, actual deadline and unavailable dates.
Use the contractor’s quoted start date and number of working days. - Enter cost details: separate rental fees, transport, fuel and other expenses from custom work rates, minimum fees and extras.
Record the quote reference date and check that any discount remains valid during the job. - Review duration and cost together: check working days, possession days, the rental limit and both completion dates.

Fictional example: two work days, three possession days
Area and schedule
With 10,000 m², capacity of 1,000 m²/hour, 6 available hours per day and 2 preparation hours, productive work takes 10 hours and the total is 12 hours.
Dividing 12 by 6 gives 2 required working days.
Pickup on 2026-09-21 with 2026-09-22 unavailable produces completion on 2026-09-23 and 3 possession days.
A deadline of 2026-09-23 is met under these assumptions.
Rental cash: KRW 270,000
Daily rental of KRW 50,000 × 3 = KRW 150,000, plus KRW 60,000 transport, KRW 5,000 × 10 hours = KRW 50,000 fuel, and KRW 10,000 other expenses.
Valuing your time at KRW 10,000/hour adds a separate KRW 120,000, giving KRW 390,000 including own time.
Custom work cash: KRW 370,000
At KRW 35,000 per 1,000 m², the area-based work fee is KRW 350,000.
This exceeds the KRW 100,000 minimum, so KRW 350,000 plus KRW 20,000 transport is charged.
Starting on 2026-09-23 with 1 required working day gives completion that same day.
Rental uses KRW 100,000 less cash, but rental including your time is KRW 20,000 more expensive than custom work.
If the provider confirms working-day-only billing, rental cash drops to KRW 220,000.
However, a rental limit of 2 calendar days is still exceeded by 3 possession days.
Fewer billed days do not resolve the duration constraint.
Every price and capacity in this example is fictional, not a local tariff or a machine specification.
Reading late completion and unfinished area
Maximum area by the deadline equals available working days × daily hours, minus preparation hours, multiplied by productive capacity.
If preparation consumes all available time, productive area is zero.
Unfinished area is the positive difference between the requested area and that capacity.
This measures working capacity separately from whether the equipment may be rented for that long.
Move the example deadline to 2026-09-22 and only September 21 is available for work.
Six daily hours minus two preparation hours leave four productive hours: 4,000 m² can be processed and 6,000 m² remains.
Consider an earlier start, different equipment capacity or a contractor’s schedule before focusing on the cheaper cash total.
Custom work must also fit its required working days after its earliest available start, so an apparently short job may still finish late.
If both options miss the deadline, the result calls for schedule changes.
An unknown rental limit stays unknown rather than being treated as satisfied.
Equipment skill and family availability also need separate consideration even when prices are close.

Travelling between several fields
Long journeys can reduce daily output even when the machine has high productive capacity.
Separate hourly work capacity from travel and setup time, then compare a plan that groups nearby fields together.
If transport is repeated, include the total cost for all expected trips.
Limited days for family help
Start with the hours your family can actually provide.
Hiring a contractor may reduce family labor, but supervision and site preparation do not necessarily disappear.
Keep own time value separate from cash spending and note time missing from either option.
Additional unavailable dates
Save another plan with one or two extra unavailable dates to compare schedule flexibility and additional rental charges.
This is an input scenario, not a weather forecast or a delay probability estimate.
If you must return equipment and rent it again, calculate each rental separately rather than combining them into one continuous period.
Limitations and checks before booking
- Confirm the local machine-specific fee, discount expiry, eligible users, maximum duration and extension conditions.
No national discount rate or rental priority is applied automatically. - Allow for collection and return times, cleaning and inspections.
Hourly bookings, different daily capacities and repeated rentals cannot be represented precisely by one simple continuous schedule. - Check contractor scope, minimum fees, extras and whether taxes are included.
Subsidies and insurance reimbursements are not deducted automatically; confirm their actual payment and return conditions separately. - The model supports up to 366 required work days, 366 unique unavailable dates and 10,000,000 m².
These are product limits, not statutory rental periods or agricultural standards. - Confirm operator training, safety equipment, insurance and site access with the provider and on site.
Yield losses from delay, liability damages and accident risks are not assigned automatic monetary values.

Why are three rental days charged for two working days?
Possession may continue on dates when you cannot work.
Change to working-day billing only if the provider confirms that charging arrangement.
Does the calculator automatically allow for rain?
No.
It skips only the unavailable dates you enter.
Even with a rain forecast, actual workability depends on soil, crop, equipment and site conditions.
How do I enter an all-inclusive contractor quote?
Set the area-based rate to zero and enter the total as the minimum work fee.
Leave included transport and other costs at zero; add only separately charged extras.
Can I calculate without knowing the rental duration limit?
Leave it at zero to calculate cost and working-day assumptions while retaining an unknown duration status.
An on-time result does not mean the rental is approved or available.
Can I account for the same time loss in several inputs?
Repeating the same breaks or travel allowance can overstate required days.
Keep losses already reflected in productive capacity separate from time added as preparation.
Do I have to enter an hourly value for my time?
No; use zero for a cash-only comparison.
An entered value is a personal planning reference, not an established wage or an actual cash expense.
Can several different farm operations be combined?
The base comparison covers one identical operation.
Calculate tillage, seeding and harvesting separately when capacity and equipment differ, then coordinate their schedules.
