What Is the Korea Driver's License Penalty Points Calculator?

This calculator estimates whether Korean traffic violation points and accident points lead to no disposition, license suspension, or license revocation. It follows the Korean page's Road Traffic Act Enforcement Rule Schedule 28 model for violation points, accident points, cumulative revocation thresholds, and point reductions.

The calculator does more than add points. It checks the 40-point suspension threshold, calculates suspension days one point per day, compares cumulative points against the 1-year 121-point, 2-year 201-point, and 3-year 271-point revocation thresholds, and applies traffic-safety education, good-driver mileage, and model-driver reductions.

Important Note

Immediate revocation reasons such as high-BAC DUI, test refusal, hit-and-run injury, police-officer assault, or illegal license acquisition can override ordinary point math.

Representative Violation Points

  • Speeding over 100 km/h: 100 points; over 80 to 100 km/h: 80 points; over 60 to 80 km/h: 60 points; over 40 to 60 km/h: 30 points; over 20 to 40 km/h: 15 points.
  • DUI at 0.03% to below 0.08% BAC: 100 points. BAC 0.08% or higher is modeled as an immediate revocation reason.
  • Retaliatory driving prosecuted criminally: 100 points. Reckless driving or collective-danger driving prosecuted criminally: 40 points.
  • Center-line violation, railroad-crossing violation, highway shoulder driving, and highway bus-lane violation: 30 points.
  • Signal violation, mobile-phone use while driving, video-device operation, overtaking at prohibited time or place, and cargo-fall prevention violation: 15 points.
  • Safe-distance violation, pedestrian-protection violation, sidewalk encroachment, safe-driving duty violation, and road-dispute traffic obstruction: 10 points.

Accident Points

Accident resultPoints
Death within 72 hours from the accident90 points per person
Serious injury requiring at least 3 weeks of treatment15 points per person
Minor injury requiring under 3 weeks but at least 5 days of treatment5 points per person
Reported injury requiring under 5 days of treatment2 points per person
Fleeing after property damage only15 points

Reduction Methods

  • Special traffic-safety education reduces a suspension period by 20 days after the suspension has been imposed.
  • Field-participation education can reduce the suspension period by another 30 days.
  • Good-driver mileage is earned by a one-year no-violation and no-accident pledge and can offset disposition points.
  • Model drivers can receive a one-half reduction of the suspension execution period.

FAQ

Does 40 points always mean 40 suspension days?

The base rule is one day per disposition point, but education, mileage, and model-driver reductions can reduce the final executed period.

Can cumulative points cause revocation even if the latest case is below 40 points?

Yes. The model separately checks 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year cumulative revocation thresholds.
