Wisdom tooth extraction cost calculator in Korea

This page translates the Korean wisdom tooth extraction guide. It estimates insured extraction fees, CBCT or panorama imaging, sedation, bone graft or hemostatic material, follow-up visits, private insurance, tax refund, and final burden.

Extraction difficulty

The Korean source separates simple extraction, difficult extraction, partial impaction, complex impaction, and full bony impaction. Extraction itself is generally covered, but the full fee and copay differ by difficulty and clinic type.

Lower impacted wisdom teeth can be close to the inferior alveolar nerve, so the guide recommends CBCT review for complex or full lower impactions. CBCT is usually modeled as non-covered, while panorama X-ray is treated as an insured imaging item.

Add-on costs

Sedation is modeled as a non-covered session cost. The Korean source uses KRW 150,000 for sedation. Bone graft or hemostatic material, such as collagen plug use, is modeled as KRW 50,000 per tooth. Follow-up disinfection or suture removal is modeled as an insured visit with a maximum of 5 follow-up visits.

The calculator multiplies insured full fees by the copay rate, and separately adjusts non-covered costs by region and clinic index. This keeps insured and non-covered burdens distinct.

  • Panorama full fee: KRW 16,000 before copay.
  • CBCT non-covered average: KRW 90,000.
  • Sedation non-covered average: KRW 150,000 per session.
  • Bone graft or hemostatic material: KRW 50,000 per tooth.
  • Follow-up visit full fee: KRW 7,000 per visit before copay.

Insurance and tax treatment

Private indemnity insurance is estimated from the self-pay base minus a KRW 20,000 deductible. Actual payment can differ because policy generation, daily outpatient limits, non-covered exclusions, and claim review rules vary.

Medical-expense tax credit uses the same salary threshold pattern as the Korean dental pages: expenses above 3 percent of annual salary are multiplied by 15 percent for the estimated refund.

Clinical cautions

Simple erupted wisdom teeth may have low out-of-pocket cost because insurance applies. Impacted lower wisdom teeth can require more imaging, referral to oral surgery, or staged extraction. The cheapest clinic is not always the safest choice for nerve-adjacent or deeply impacted teeth.

The calculator is useful for budgeting before visiting a dentist and for checking whether a bill is mostly insured extraction cost or non-covered add-ons.
