Procedure categories

The Korean model separates less invasive spine procedures from operating-room surgery. It keeps PEN, balloon neuroplasty, nucleoplasty, endoscopic discectomy, open discectomy, fusion, and artificial disc replacement as different cost structures instead of applying one generic spine multiplier.

Covered surgery fees, non-covered procedure components, level count, and institution type are all included. Hospital stay is modeled separately because a one-day procedure and a fusion admission do not create the same room, caregiver, or rehabilitation burden.

Admission and rehabilitation costs

The Korean page uses KRW 120,000 per day as the ward baseline and adds upper-room differences by institution type: KRW 100,000, KRW 130,000, KRW 170,000, or KRW 250,000 per day. Rehabilitation and manual-therapy style follow-up is modeled at KRW 100,000 per visit.

Indemnity generation matters because generation 5 excludes non-covered rehabilitation in the Korean model. Earlier generations can reimburse more of the non-covered portion, but annual limits and deductibles still apply.

Copay ceiling and decision context

High-cost covered spine surgery can interact with the Korean copay-ceiling refund system. The calculator therefore shows the NHI self-pay, non-covered total, reimbursement estimate, tax refund, and final cost rather than only a hospital bill amount.

The Korean guide cautions that procedure choice should depend on neurologic deficit, stenosis or disc imaging, instability, prior treatment, and expected function. A non-covered procedure can be expensive even when the hospital stay is short.
