Korean Veterans Monthly Compensation Calculator

Check 2026 Korean veterans base compensation, approved allowances, age-allowance coordination and parent division against your award notice.

2026 Korean veterans benefits · compare with your award notice

Automatic lookup covers service/combat-injured military or police, the veterans support scheme, and their eligible survivors. Enter approved categories and allowances. Initial eligibility, local benefits and back pay are outside this calculation.

Inputs are processed in this page. Names, bank details and medical records are not needed.

1. Award category

0–120

Use the category confirmed by the veterans office, including transitional rules for earlier applications and reassessments. Civil officials, independence patriots, war-service allowances and Agent Orange schemes belong to Other.

2. Recognized dependents and allowances

0–20

Modern dependent rates are 100,000 KRW per spouse/child and 200,000 per eligible sibling of a child recipient. Age allowances are coordinated. Legacy injured veterans do not receive the modern dependent amount. Care and living adjustments require approved awards.

3. Benefit coordination

Unconfirmed coordination, elected benefits, suspensions, complex divisions and multiple deceased beneficiaries put the total on hold. Other national allowances cannot be freely added or deducted.

Enter your conditions and calculate. Editing inputs hides the previous result.

Start with the awarded veterans category

This calculator helps already recognized recipients compare the components of Korean national veterans compensation using the 2026 payment table.
A bank deposit alone does not identify which base payment and allowances were included, especially after a family change.
Choose the category, injury grade or survivor payment band from your award notice to see base compensation, severe-injury supplements, dependent allowances, care and age-allowance coordination separately.

This is a Korea-specific worksheet in KRW, not a system for another jurisdiction.
It does not determine initial recognition, the correct injury grade, cause of death or survivor priority.
When helping a parent, enter the actual recipient’s conditions rather than your own household details.
Names, account numbers and medical documents are not needed.

Which schemes are covered?

National merit compensation

The lookup covers combat- or service-injured military and police recipients and eligible surviving spouses, parents and children.
Injured recipients select a grade; survivors select the awarded killed-in-service or injury-grade payment band.
A survivor’s compensation is looked up directly, not calculated as a percentage of the deceased person’s payment.

Veterans support compensation

A separate table covers accident-injured military and police personnel and eligible survivors of fatal or qualifying injury cases under the veterans support system.
The published KRW figures are used directly; multiplying national-merit figures by 70% can differ from the official table.
Civil officials must not use the military/police table as a substitute.

Independence patriots, student volunteers from Japan, military-merit and war-service allowances, Agent Orange benefits and Korean War child allowances use separate rules and are outside this lookup.
Select Other and consult the appropriate official table.
Local-government veterans allowances and death payments are also excluded from this national monthly total.

Legacy and modern rules: use the award category

Registration date alone is insufficient

Legacy refers to the confirmed existing-registration category; modern rules generally relate to applications from July 1, 2012.
Earlier applications registered later and reassessment transitions can change the applicable category.
Articles 3, 9 and 10 of the June 27, 2012 supplementary provisions, Presidential Decree No 23885, explain why the veterans office’s classification matters.

For legacy survivors, the higher band includes grades 1–5 and grade 6 injury-related death; the lower band covers grade 6 death unrelated to the injury and grade 7 injury-related death.
These are different from the modern grades 1–5 and grade 6 bands.
Do not decide causation from the wording yourself.
Legacy grade 6-3 is outside the table used here and puts the lookup on hold.
An unknown category should be confirmed with the office rather than changed simply to obtain a number.

2026 base compensation for injured recipients

These are base amounts per month before allowances.
The official table’s thousand-won units have been converted to KRW.
Do not confuse base compensation with a total that includes care or severe-injury supplements.

For grades 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3, national-merit severe-injury supplements are 3,044,000, 2,105,000 and 1,282,000 KRW; veterans-support supplements are 2,131,000, 1,473,000 and 898,000 KRW.
The 90,000 KRW combat-injury allowance applies only to a confirmed combat-injured national-merit recipient, not automatically to a service-injured recipient or survivor.

Dependent allowances and age coordination

Modern formulas

An injured recipient’s dependent allowance equals recognized spouses × 100,000 KRW plus recognized children × 100,000 KRW.
A surviving spouse receives 100,000 per recognized child; a child survivor receives 200,000 per recognized minor sibling, excluding the recipient.
This is not the number of people sharing an address.
Include adult children under a disability exception only when officially recognized.

Age candidate E: from age 60, 97,000 KRW for an injured recipient or parent; 149,000 for a surviving spouse.
Age allowance paid = max(0, E − dependent allowance).
Excluded age allowance = min(E, dependent allowance).

Article 23 of each applicable decree coordinates age and dependent allowances but preserves the difference when the dependent allowance is smaller.
Therefore, having a dependent does not always eliminate the whole age allowance.
Parents receive no dependent allowance in this model, and child survivors do not receive the age allowance.

Legacy upbringing and selected allowances

A legacy surviving spouse receives 50,000 KRW for one recognized child, 185,000 for two, plus 185,000 for each additional child.
A child survivor’s sibling-upbringing amounts are 100,000 for one, 370,000 for two, plus 370,000 for each additional sibling.
A legacy injured recipient does not receive the modern spouse/child allowance.
Approved unattended support of 274,000, support of unattended parents of 149,000, or only-child-death support of 274,000 is selected as one applicable legacy category and is not added to the age allowance.

Care, living adjustment and parent division

Approved care category

Legacy grade-based care is 3,375,000 KRW for 1-1, 3,247,000 for 1-2, 3,123,000 for 1-3 and 1,079,000 for grade 2.
Approved modern constant care is 3,375,000 and intermittent care is 2,250,000 KRW.
Current annexes include certain officially specified grade 3–5 intermittent-care cases.
Use the actual award and current annex rather than a shortened website summary; this tool does not assess daily functioning or diagnose care needs.
Selecting no care for legacy grades 1–2 or modern grade 1-1 conflicts with the payment criteria and keeps the total pending.

Select the awarded living adjustment

The official table lists 242,000, 277,000 and 311,000 KRW for households of three or fewer, and 300,000, 336,000 and 370,000 for four or more.
Household size alone does not grant an allowance.
Select the amount awarded after the applicable income and asset assessment.
If an application is pending, leave the allowance-confirmation field unconfirmed.

Equal division between parents

For an approved equal division, the applicable base, age or legacy allowance and living adjustment are each multiplied by 1/2.
Enter the living adjustment before division, not the already halved bank payment.
If the parents have different recognized allowances or a complex division, select the coordination-review status and check each payment statement.

Worked monthly examples

Modern grade 7, age 65, one spouse

National merit: base 708,000 + dependent 100,000 + adjusted age allowance 0 = 808,000 KRW per month.
The 97,000 age candidate is excluded; the unchanged 12-month equivalent is 9,696,000 KRW.
This example assumes no care, living-adjustment or combat-injury allowance and no additional national-benefit coordination.

Surviving spouse aged 60, one child

Modern national-merit killed-in-service band: 2,138,000 + dependent 100,000 + age difference 49,000 = 2,287,000 KRW.
With two children, the dependent amount is 200,000 and age allowance is zero, giving 2,338,000 KRW.
An additional child therefore does not always increase the total by the full dependent rate.

Legacy grade 7, unattended award

At age 65, national-merit base 708,000 + approved unattended amount 274,000 = 982,000 KRW.
Do not add another 97,000 age allowance.
A legacy grade 1-1 recipient aged 65 with grade-based care and no other additions totals 10,574,000 KRW.

Parent division and age boundaries

A national-merit killed-in-service parent aged 65 with a 242,000 living adjustment and equal division receives (2,101,000 + 97,000 + 242,000) ÷ 2 = 1,220,000 KRW.
A veterans-support grade 7 recipient without dependents or other additions has 496,000 at age 59 and 593,000 at age 60.
Enter age for the conditions being compared.

How to use your award notice

  1. Prepare the award notice and a recent payment statement, and check that the scheme and military/police or survivor category are covered.
  2. Select the confirmed legacy/modern rules and injury grade or survivor band, then enter the recipient’s age.
  3. Enter recognized family members and approved care and living allowances; for a parent, confirm division of compensation and allowances.
  4. Record benefit elections, reductions, suspensions, multiple deceased beneficiaries or complex divisions and read any pending reasons.
  5. Calculate, review the component rows and age exclusion, then save the TXT worksheet or print it.

Editing inputs hides the previous result until you calculate again.
The example is an illustration, not your award.
Save the TXT with any printout because it includes the input conditions.
Inputs are handled in page memory; no identity number, account number or diagnosis upload is requested.

Interpret pending totals and annual equivalents

Pending is not a denial

The total remains unavailable when national-benefit coordination is unconfirmed or an election, reduction or suspension applies.
Multiple deceased beneficiaries require individual base awards and a separate multiple-death allowance review, so one survivor band cannot establish the total.
Component figures remaining on screen are table references, not confirmed entitlements.

The modeled monthly total is the component subtotal minus the excluded age allowance.
Annualization multiplies that monthly amount by 12; it is not a guaranteed annual award.
Birthdays, dependent changes, grade changes, suspensions and amendments may change payments during the year.
Back pay, recovery, attachment or deductions, death lump sums and partial-year settlement are excluded.
A difference from a bank deposit does not by itself establish an underpayment or repayment liability.

Practical checks for changed circumstances

A family member’s status changes

When a child reaches adulthood or recognized status changes, review both the dependent allowance and age difference.
Do not remove a child solely by age if an approved disability exception may apply.
Confirm reporting requirements and the actual effective payment month with the office.

Planning a parent’s living costs

Record national compensation, local allowances and military retirement pensions separately.
Build one recipient’s national compensation worksheet, then attach decisions for separate schemes.
Do not treat a pending total as confirmed household income.

For an inquiry, list the applicable category, base band, recognized dependents, care category, age difference and division instead of reporting only a total mismatch.
Match the decision’s effective date with the payment statement month.
These figures are for 2026 and must not be assumed valid for the next year.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a military retirement pension?

No: this worksheet looks up awarded veterans compensation and allowances, while a Korean military retirement pension depends on service and pensionable income and must be calculated separately.

Does an ID issued after July 1, 2012 establish modern-rule coverage?

Use the category confirmed by the veterans office, because earlier applications registered later and reassessments can be covered by transitional provisions.

Can I add the whole age allowance to dependent allowances?

Modern rules coordinate them: an eligible surviving spouse aged 60 with a 100,000 KRW dependent allowance receives only the 49,000 KRW difference from the 149,000 KRW age allowance.

Can grade 7 qualify for dependent allowances?

The current decrees include grade 7 under modern rules for both schemes, but family recognition and legacy-versus-modern coverage still need to be confirmed.

Does the injury grade alone decide care entitlement?

Modern constant or intermittent care requires the applicable criteria and award to be confirmed; current annexes also cover certain officially specified grade 3–5 cases for intermittent care, so this tool does not diagnose care needs.

Do both parents each receive the full table amount?

With an approved equal division, the applicable base and allowances are each halved here; enter the awarded living adjustment before division to avoid halving an already divided payment again.

Is a child aged 25 always outside the calculation?

Ordinary child-survivor coverage is for people under 25, but a confirmed continuing award for the statutory inability-to-support-oneself disability exception can be selected; this tool does not grant that exception.

What if the total is pending or differs from the bank deposit?

Pending does not mean zero entitlement: save the worksheet and compare the award and statement for the same month, then check elections, suspensions, recovery, back pay and family changes with the veterans office.

Official evidence and your next step

The MPVA 2026 payment table, published January 2, 2026, was checked against current legislation on 2026-09-23.
The national-merit Act MST289309 and veterans-support Act MST289311 are effective 2026-09-08; their decrees MST288949 and MST288951 are effective 2026-08-25.
Some statutory provisions have separate commencement dates; survivor-priority amendments scheduled for 2027-01-01 are not applied here.
Articles, dates and annex text were checked directly through the National Law Information OPEN API.
No case-law-based estimate is used.

Recheck each January and after interim amendments, especially dependent-allowance grades, care recognition and transitional rules.
Calculate using your award conditions, save the component worksheet and ask your veterans office about missing allowances or pending items.
