Occupation Change Notice, Premium and Accident Claim Reduction Calculator

Reconcile Korean accident benefits using insurer-confirmed old/new rates, remaining premiums and separate settlement after an occupation change.

Korean accident insurance, 2026 rules · sources checked 2026-10-30

Reconcile insurer-confirmed benefit rates and premiums. This does not determine causation, notice validity or claim entitlement. Notify the insurer, then use the worksheet for policy adjustments or a disputed reduction.

1. Contract status and accident assumptions

Receipt alone does not establish completion or retroactive coverage. An unrelated-accident selection is your assumption; insurer evidence and other exclusions require separate review.

2. Original benefit amounts and confirmed rates

Use the amount payable before this reduction, after disability percentages and payment conditions. Rates must describe the same benefit, amount, period and units. Do not substitute whole-policy premiums or occupation class numbers. Leave unknown figures blank.

Benefit 1

3. Remaining premiums and separate settlement

Assumes fixed premiums. Enter only a confirmed separate settlement not already included in monthly premiums. Select no settlement only after confirmation. Renewal changes, daily proration and installment interest or schedules are outside this worksheet.

Check accident insurance when your work changes

Starting delivery work after retirement, moving from an office to a production floor, or adding driving duties can change the risk described in a Korean accident insurance policy.
The employer may stay the same while the actual duties change.
When helping a parent review insurance, compare the occupation recorded in each policy with the work they now perform.

This Korea-specific calculator uses 2026 Korean rules to reconcile benefit-level rate ratios, a possible reduction after an unreported change, and the remaining premium budget after notification.
All amounts are KRW.
Before an accident, notify the insurer and use confirmed revised figures to discuss keeping or adjusting coverage.
After an accident, compare the arithmetic with the payment notice.
The worksheet does not support delaying or avoiding notification.

Three practical outputs

  • Proportional payment and reduction using old and new rates for each benefit
  • Remaining fixed-premium differences and a separately confirmed settlement
  • A record of receipt, completion and accident dates, with evidence to request

The Korean notification framework

Commercial Act Article 652 requires prompt notification when the policyholder or insured learns of a significant change or increase in accident risk during the insurance period.
It distinguishes insurer knowledge of a failure to notify from receipt of a risk-change notification when describing the relevant cancellation or premium-increase periods.
This calculator cannot decide significant risk, knowledge, intent or gross negligence.

Recorded occupation and actual duties

Article 15 of the disease and accident standard terms covers occupation and duties, driving purpose or status, and regular use of motorcycles and specified similar vehicles.
Explain the actual work, including newly combined duties, to the insurer.
Do not assume that remaining with the same employer means no change needs review.

Confirm each policy

Receipt can be followed by underwriting, policy amendments and settlement processing.
For several policies, ask which contracts have been updated and obtain the endorsements.
Separately confirm exclusions or changes involving motorcycle use and other riders.

The scope is personal accident-benefit arithmetic.
It does not classify occupations, decide insurability, approve a claim or calculate occupational-change treatment under Korean indemnity medical insurance.

Prepare matching amounts, rates and documents

Benefit rates are different from whole-policy premiums

A combined policy premium can include disease benefits, savings components and other charges.
Doubling that total does not establish that an accident benefit should be halved.
Request the old and new insurance rates for the specific benefit and matching rating basis.
Occupation class numbers such as class 1 and class 2 are not the numerator and denominator of the reduction formula.

  • Benefit before reduction: the otherwise calculated payment, after any disability percentage and payment conditions.
Do not enter the full sum insured when the applicable benefit is only a percentage of it.
  • Old and new rates: insurer-confirmed rates for the same benefit, insured amount, period and units.
Both must be greater than zero; up to six decimal places are supported.
  • Insurer-offered payment: the figure in the notice you want to reconcile.
It is optional; blank means unknown while a confirmed zero remains zero.
  • Premiums and months: matching old and new monthly charges and remaining payment months.
Do not substitute the remaining coverage period for the payment period.

Enter up to six benefits separately.
Calculate the original payable amount for each benefit before using the rate-ratio worksheet.
If a rate has not been confirmed, leave it blank rather than copying a class table or a similar product from the internet.
The confirmation checkbox represents matching insurer evidence, not a software verification of that evidence.

Proportional reduction and the selected payment

Assuming unreported change or unpaid additional charges, and a related accident

Proportional payment = original benefit × min(1, old rate ÷ new rate)
Reduction = original benefit − proportional payment

Standard terms Article 15(4) addresses unpaid additional premiums, including a settlement, following increased risk.
Article 15(5) addresses failure to notify through intent or gross negligence when the new rate is higher, and the associated insurer notice and payment mechanism.
Selecting either situation creates an arithmetic assumption; it does not establish that the legal conditions are met.

Unrelated accident or unknown causation

The terms provide for the original payment for a benefit event unrelated to the increased risk.
Unknown causation displays the proportional and original scenarios while withholding a selected payment.
These figures are not guaranteed minimum or maximum payments after other exclusions.

Equal or lower new rate

The ratio is capped at 1, so a lower rate does not increase the original benefit.
When both arithmetic scenarios coincide, unknown causation alone need not change that number.
Unknown contract handling still withholds the selected total.

Nearest-KRW rounding is a worksheet assumption.
Confirm the insurer’s actual rounding, policy wording, other reduction grounds and benefit limits.
Commercial Act Article 655 does not justify automatically treating every accident as unpaid, and choosing an unrelated assumption does not approve full payment.

Separate recurring premiums from settlement

Budget formulas

Remaining premium difference = (new monthly premium − old monthly premium) × remaining payment months
Net budget change = recurring difference + additional settlement − settlement refund

Standard terms Article 15(3) addresses premium reduction and settlement refunds when risk decreases, and premium increases and additional settlement when risk rises.
Settlement can reflect differences in policy reserves and cannot be derived solely from the monthly premium change.
Enter only a confirmed separate amount; avoid counting a settlement again when it is already included in the monthly charge.

The terms contain lump-sum and installment arrangements, with possible restrictions for certain renewable contracts.
This worksheet includes the settlement total once and does not construct an installment or interest schedule.
Renewals, payment deferrals and partial-month charges can make actual billing different.
Zero remaining months means zero recurring difference, but does not automatically eliminate a separate settlement.
An unknown settlement withholds the net total; select no settlement only after confirmation.

How to use the worksheet

  1. Compare actual work with the policy record and notify the official insurer channel.
If an accident has occurred, retain the accident date and first receipt record.
  2. Select contract handling and causation as confirmed facts or explicit assumptions.
    Leave unknown matters unknown.
  3. Enter each original benefit and matching old/new rates.
Tick rate confirmation only when the insurer has confirmed the basis.
  4. Enter revised monthly premiums, remaining payment months and the separate settlement status.
No settlement must be confirmed rather than assumed.
  5. Calculate, read the missing-evidence notices, and compare each line with the insurer’s offer.
After editing inputs, recalculate before saving.
  6. Save the TXT worksheet with assumptions and sources, then review it alongside rate tables, endorsements and settlement bills.
The tool does not send notices or complaints.

Worked synthetic example: KRW 100 million benefit

These are fictional inputs, not actual occupation rates or market premium quotations.
Assume an original benefit of KRW 100,000,000, an old rate of 0.3 and a new rate of 0.5 on the same basis.
Select an unreported change and assume that the accident is related to the increased risk.

One accident

The ratio is 0.3 ÷ 0.5 = 60%.
KRW 100,000,000 × 60% gives a proportional payment of KRW 60,000,000 and a reduction of KRW 40,000,000.
An insurer offer of KRW 60,000,000 produces zero arithmetic difference under this assumption.

Remaining premium budget

Old/new monthly premiums of KRW 20,000/30,000 over 24 months total KRW 480,000/720,000.
The recurring difference is KRW 240,000; a separate additional settlement of KRW 50,000 makes the net increase KRW 290,000.
Do not add this budget to the one-accident reduction.

An unrelated-accident assumption instead selects the original KRW 100,000,000.
Unknown causation keeps KRW 60,000,000 and KRW 100,000,000 as comparison scenarios and withholds the selected total.
For a decrease from rate 0.5 to 0.3, premiums from KRW 30,000 to 20,000, 24 months and a confirmed KRW 50,000 refund, net change is −KRW 290,000.
This is a budget decrease, not a universally mandated refund.

Receipt, completion and awareness dates differ

Insurer receipt may precede completion of the amendment and payment confirmation.
Even with confirmed notice, payment and unchanged coverage selected, the full-payment scenario is withheld if the accident, receipt or completion date is missing, or if the accident precedes completion.
Later payment does not establish retroactive coverage.
An accident before the work change is compared without a reduction for this particular change, while other conditions still require review.

One month is not a fixed 30 days

Commercial Act Article 652 distinguishes awareness of failure to notify from receipt of the risk-change notice.
The worksheet adds one calendar month to each entered starting point as a reference.
2026-01-31 gives 2026-02-28, while leap-year 2028-01-31 gives 2028-02-29.
Initial-day treatment, receipt time, holidays, extensions and proof of awareness need separate review.

A passed reference date does not establish that cancellation is invalid or full coverage is guaranteed.
The calculator does not decide the final legal deadline or the legal effect of an insurer’s action.
Planned future awareness and receipt dates are flagged against the entered comparison reference date.

Keep evidence of notice through an insurance agent

The practical approach is to identify all relevant contracts through an official insurer channel and confirm processing.
However, notice through an agent is not automatically invalid in every case.
Supreme Court case 2022다238633, decided 2024-11-28, assessed the content and circumstances of notice and the insurer’s handling where the same insured had several policies with the same insurer.

The specific case considered the insurer’s receipt, knowledge and internal recording of information passed through an agent.
This is not an automatic approval rule.
Retain messages, recordings, receipt numbers, reissued policies and endorsements, and ask when the insurer updated each contract.
Disputes over notice validity or explanation duties require individual review.

Use results for a concrete next step

Starting delivery work after retirement

Explain actual work and vehicle use, and request revised premiums and settlement.
Review the added recurring budget before discussing unchanged benefits or a reduction of insured amounts and riders.
Confirm an actual adjustment proposal before cancelling an existing policy, because replacement underwriting and coverage gaps may matter.

After a reduction notice

Reconcile benefit rates, the original payable amount and rounding.
Correct arithmetic does not settle notice validity, accident causation or the applicable wording.
A difference in the worksheet also does not automatically establish an additional legal entitlement.

Frequently asked questions

Do changed duties matter if my employer stays the same?

Duties are included in the standard-terms review.
Explain actual and combined work to the insurer and confirm each policy update.

Does moving from class 1 to class 2 halve my payment?

Do not divide class numbers.
Obtain the old and new rates for the same benefit from the insurer.

Is notice enough if additional premiums remain unpaid?

The terms also address unpaid additional premiums and settlement.
Receipt alone does not establish payment or unchanged coverage.

Does an unrelated accident always receive full payment?

The terms contain an unrelated-risk provision, but your selection is a comparison assumption.
Confirm causation evidence and other exclusions and payment conditions.

Can a safer occupation reduce premiums?

The standard terms address reduced premiums and settlement refunds when risk falls.
Confirm actual amounts and effective dates with the insurer.

Is telling an agent meaningless?

No universal conclusion is appropriate.
Case 2022다238633 considered insurer knowledge and internal processing among other circumstances, so retain existing records.

Does passing the one-month reference prevent cancellation?

The calendar reference does not decide legal validity.
Review awareness, receipt time, period computation and the actual action taken.

Why are blank and zero treated differently?

Blank is unknown; zero is a confirmed figure.
Missing rates or settlement withhold relevant totals to avoid suggesting that unknown means free or fully covered.
