Korea wage guarantee payment calculator guide

This English page translates the Korean wage guarantee payment calculator and calls calculateWageGuarantee. It preserves insolvency payment, simple substitute payment, age caps, item caps, eligibility status, recommended type, and filing deadlines.

System overview

The old chedanggeum terminology was replaced in 2021 by wage substitute payment terminology. The Korean calculator distinguishes insolvency substitute payment from simple substitute payment because eligibility, proof, caps, and deadlines differ.

Insolvency payment generally applies to resigned workers after confirmed bankruptcy, rehabilitation, or insolvency recognition. Simple payment can apply with a court judgment, settlement, payment order, or labor-office confirmation depending on the exact proof route.

Insolvency caps

The insolvency path covers last 3 months of wages, shutdown allowance, maternity leave pay, and last 3 years of severance, but each item is capped by age group. The Korean content keeps different wage, severance, shutdown, and maternity caps.

For example, age 40 to 49 uses wage and severance caps of KRW 3,500,000 per month or year, shutdown allowance cap KRW 2,450,000, and maternity cap KRW 3,100,000. Under 30 uses KRW 2,200,000 for wage and severance, KRW 1,540,000 for shutdown, and KRW 3,100,000 for maternity.

Simple payment caps

For retired workers, simple substitute payment applies a KRW 7,000,000 item cap and KRW 10,000,000 total cap in the Korean logic. For currently employed workers, the simple wage cap is KRW 7,000,000 and the monthly average pay condition is KRW 3,500,000 or less.

The result reports total arrears, insolvency payment, simple payment, eligibility status, recommended route, recommended payable amount, unpaid remainder, and coverage rate. If the cap leaves a remainder, the worker may still need direct claim, civil execution, or insolvency procedure.

Deadlines and filing

The Korean page keeps deadline checks: insolvency substitute payment within 2 years from insolvency decision, simple payment by judgment within 1 year from final judgment, and simple payment by labor-office confirmation within 6 months from confirmation issuance.

The Korean content also notes practical processing times: simple payment often targets payment within 14 days, while insolvency payment can target around 7 days after the payment decision. Workers can ask the Korea Workers Compensation and Welfare Service, including the 1588-0075 contact route mentioned in the Korean page.
