Burnout index calculator guide

This English page translates the Korean burnout index calculator and calls calculateBurnoutResult. It preserves the MBI-based 22-question scoring structure, warning-sign count, dimension weights, and A to F health grade output.

MBI structure

The Korean calculator is based on the Maslach Burnout Inventory structure: 22 questions on a 0 to 6 scale. Emotional Exhaustion has 9 questions with a maximum raw score of 54, Depersonalization has 5 questions with a maximum of 30, and Personal Accomplishment has 8 questions with a maximum of 48.

The index keeps the Korean weights: Emotional Exhaustion 40%, Depersonalization 30%, and reverse-scored Personal Accomplishment 30%. The formula is burnoutIndex = 0.40 x EE_norm + 0.30 x DP_norm + 0.30 x PA_norm, and healthScore = 100 - burnoutIndex.

Grade interpretation

The health grade table is kept from the Korean page: A is 80 to 100, B is 60 to 79, C is 40 to 59, D is 20 to 39, and F is 0 to 19. The grade is directional and not a medical diagnosis.

The calculator also checks 15 warning signs and classifies warning severity as low, moderate, or high. A high warning count should be treated as a signal to reduce workload, seek support, or review workplace causes rather than as a standalone clinical result.

Workplace and legal context

The Korean article cites the WHO 2019 ICD-11 framing of burnout as an occupational phenomenon. It also references Korean occupational stress tools such as KOSS and workplace-health programs.

If burnout is connected to workplace harassment, the Korean content points to Labor Standards Act Article 76-2. The Occupational Safety and Health Act context may also matter where excessive workload or unsafe work organization contributes to harm.

Using the result

The output separates burnout index, health score, grade, dimension scores, warning count, warning severity, and recommended strategy ids. It should be reviewed together with sleep, recovery time, workload, interpersonal conflict, commute, and compensation.

Employee assistance programs, workers health centers, medical consultation, HR review, and workload adjustment may be appropriate depending on severity. The calculator is for self-checking and planning, not for replacing clinical or legal advice.
