This page translates the Korean payroll non-taxable allowance guide and keeps the same income tax, local income tax, and social-insurance saving model used by the Korean calculator.

Main non-taxable allowances

Meal allowance is one of the most common Korean non-taxable payroll items. When the employer does not separately provide meals, up to KRW 200,000 per month can be treated as non-taxable salary.

Vehicle maintenance allowance can also be non-taxable up to KRW 200,000 per month when the employee owns or leases the vehicle and uses it for business. Company vehicles are outside this assumption.

Childcare and special allowances

For 2026, childcare allowance is modeled at KRW 200,000 per month per child age 6 or younger. The Korean guide highlights that the benefit is multiplied by the number of eligible young children.

Other items in the Korean source include night-shift allowance for qualifying production workers, research allowance, remote-area allowance, general overseas work income up to KRW 1 million per month, and overseas construction or shipping work up to KRW 5 million per month.

Why net pay changes

A non-taxable allowance lowers taxable salary, so it can reduce income tax, local income tax, national pension, health insurance, long-term care insurance, and employment insurance at the same time.

The calculator shows before-and-after monthly net salary, annual saving, monthly saving, marginal tax rate, and item-level saving. Confirm payroll policy and documentary requirements with the employer before changing salary structure.
