This English page follows the Korean hallux valgus guide and preserves the same functional-versus-cosmetic purpose switch, procedure table, bilateral factor, fixation screws, MICA surcharge, pin-removal cost, admission, rehabilitation, indemnity generation, and tax-credit logic.

Procedure and purpose

The Korean model includes chevron, scarf, proximal osteotomy, Lapidus fusion, and MICA or minimally invasive correction. The first important input is purpose: functional treatment can be handled as medical care, while cosmetic-purpose surgery is modeled as full self-pay and excluded from private-insurance reimbursement.

Fixation screws are modeled at KRW 200,000 each. MICA adds a KRW 1,500,000 non-covered special-device cost, and later pin removal can add KRW 400,000. Bilateral surgery uses the Korean bilateral factor rather than doubling every line item blindly.

Insurance result

For functional cases, the calculator applies the covered surgery fee, covered fixation, room fee, inpatient copay, upper-room cost, rehabilitation cost, and private-insurance generation assumptions. For cosmetic cases, the Korean model blocks reimbursement and tax treatment in the same way the Korean page explains.

Generation 5 excludes non-covered rehabilitation in this model. Earlier generations can reimburse more, but non-covered MICA or pin-removal costs still depend on policy terms.

Planning cautions

The Korean guide warns that a painful deformity, shoe conflict, inflammation, and functional limitation should be documented when the purpose is medical treatment. Purely appearance-driven correction can produce a very different claim outcome.

Procedure choice depends on deformity angle, first-ray instability, arthritis, bone quality, and recovery tolerance, so the calculator should be paired with a surgeon explanation.
