Yellow Umbrella Loan vs Surrender Cash Calculator
Compare quoted additional borrowing with Korean Yellow Umbrella voluntary-surrender cash after withholding and existing debt settlement, including repayment preparation and receipt timing.
Before surrendering for a cash need, compare new borrowing with the actual surrender receipt.
For Korean general contract loans and voluntary surrender. Confirmed quotes and assumptions are distinguished; unknown amounts are withheld.
Compare Yellow Umbrella borrowing and surrender before raising urgent cash
A shop repair, family medical bill or rent payment may create an immediate cash need.
Surrendering a Korean Yellow Umbrella contract can seem convenient, but withholding and existing debt settlement may reduce the actual receipt, while ending the contract.
If the need is only part of the accumulated balance, first check whether an additional contract loan can cover it and whether you have resources to repay it.
This calculator examines current cash needs and future repayment preparation rather than annual income-deduction savings.
Enter the fund’s additional loan limit, agreed rate, gross voluntary-surrender refund, expected withholding and settlement figures on a consistent basis.
The evidence labels identify assumptions separately so another person can see which figures still need checking.
Review cash sufficiency, planned receipt timing and repayment resources separately; the calculator does not recommend the option with the largest cash balance.
The two scenarios and their scope
Keep the contract and take a new general loan
View new cash available, any shortfall, payment-unit surplus, total planned interest and preparation for balloon repayment.
Existing principal remains a separate debt when the fund contract is kept.
A public-formula reference helps reconcile the institutional additional-limit quote.
Surrender voluntarily and settle existing debt
Gross refund is reduced by quoted withholding, outstanding contract-loan principal, settlement interest and other deductions.
The worksheet shows whether the receipt covers the cash need and any surplus.
Surrender ends the contract; the displayed receipt does not include later comprehensive income tax.
Medical, disaster, rehabilitation and bankruptcy loans, separate mutual-aid fund lending, renewal approvals, business-closure benefits and old-age benefits are outside this comparison.
Do not transfer another mutual-aid product’s limits or interest rates into this contract-loan worksheet.
Public general-loan ceiling and KRW 100,000 payment units
The official guide checked on 2026-10-14 describes general loans for members paying contributions normally.
The common ceiling is within 90% of the voluntary-surrender refund after expected withholding, subject to the total paid-contribution ceiling.
Payments are made in KRW 100,000 units.
A cross-check rather than an approval
Total-limit reference = min(paid contributions, (gross refund − withholding) × 90%), rounded down to 100,000 KRW.
Additional-capacity reference = max(total-limit reference − existing principal, 0), rounded down to 100,000 KRW.
Use the institution’s quoted additional borrowing capacity for the actual cash comparison.
If that entry exceeds the public-formula reference, reconcile the quote dates, refund type, total versus additional ceiling and existing debt before relying on it.
A cash need of KRW 5,050,000 becomes a planned request of KRW 5,100,000 when enough capacity is available.
This produces a KRW 50,000 payment-unit surplus, with corresponding principal and interest obligations.
If the available limit is smaller, the worksheet shows the remaining cash shortfall separately.
Input groups and evidence states
Loan limit and rate
Enter the additional execution limit after existing borrowing rather than the total ceiling.
Use the full annual rate applicable to your agreement, not merely a base rate or spread.
Keep the rate and limit on the same quote-date basis to avoid combining information from different periods.
Refund and withholding
Enter gross voluntary-surrender value and expected combined national/local withholding.
Putting a receipt already reduced by tax or debt into the gross field would duplicate deductions.
Separate gross value, withholding, debt and actual receipt when reading the institutional quote.
Contributions and debt settlement
Record your total paid contributions, existing contract-loan principal, and interest or other amounts deducted on surrender.
Verify zero principal and zero interest if none exists.
Use the quoted amount for incentive adjustments or other deductions rather than inventing a universal adjustment percentage.
Each group is Unknown, Assumption / plan, or Fund-confirmed quote.
Confirmed quotes require a valid quote date.
Unknown does not mean zero and withholds affected outputs.
Quotes outside 2026 trigger a rule-review warning; dates from different periods also need reconciliation.
Surrender withholding is different from final tax
Article 86-3 of the Restriction of Special Taxation Act distinguishes qualifying benefit payments from ordinary termination.
Other income on ordinary termination is based on the refund less cumulative contributions exceeding the amount actually deducted from income.
Enforcement Decree Article 80-3 treats that other income as zero when the verified non-deducted cumulative amount exceeds the refund.
A single rate applied to the full gross refund therefore cannot establish an individual’s tax.
16.5% describes withholding on taxable other income
The official surrender guide describes 15% national income tax plus 1.5% local income tax, and comprehensive income aggregation when other income exceeds KRW 3,000,000.
Enter the expected withholding verified by the fund using the individual enrollment and deduction history.
Surrender cash here is the receipt after payment-time withholding and debt settlement, not final after-tax wealth following any later filing or adjustment.
Business closure, old-age payments, special termination and management deterioration after at least 120 contribution months can have different treatment.
This page does not recognize those circumstances or calculate their tax automatically.
Select Other for such a reason and request the appropriate institutional calculation before deciding.
Avoid omitting or double-subtracting existing debt
Existing principal behaves differently in the two scenarios.
The loan entry is an institutional additional-capacity quote that already reflects prior borrowing; do not subtract the prior principal again from it.
On surrender, existing principal and settlement interest or other deductions are actually removed from the refund.
Keeping the fund contract also retains the earlier debt
New borrowing of KRW 5,000,000 does not erase an existing principal balance of KRW 2,000,000.
The result displays the existing principal retained separately.
The monthly schedule covers new borrowing only, excluding future interest and repayment on existing debt.
Prepare separately for an earlier maturity or a different rate on that earlier loan.
Do not include existing principal again in Settlement interest / other deductions.
Entries where withholding exceeds gross refund or total settlement exceeds the refund after withholding are rejected for reconciliation with the quote.
Formulas and result interpretation
New borrowing plan
Planned receipt = min(cash need rounded up to 100,000 KRW, additional limit rounded down to 100,000 KRW).
Total planned interest = principal × annual rate ÷ 100 × months ÷ 12, rounded to whole KRW.
Total new-loan repayment = principal + planned interest.
Surrender receipt and preparation budget
Surrender cash = gross refund − quoted withholding − existing principal − settlement interest / other deductions.
Cash shortfall = max(required cash − relevant receipt, 0).
Monthly preparation reserve = total new-loan repayment ÷ months, rounded up to whole KRW.
Monthly interest uses differences between rounded cumulative interest values, so the schedule sums exactly to the displayed total.
This budgeting convention does not reproduce the fund’s daily interest bills.
If the entered monthly budget is smaller than the preparation reserve, the difference indicates additional resources to arrange for balloon repayment.
Step-by-step use
- Set the cash amount, required date and monthly preparation resources.
Verify normal contribution payment and the fund’s classification of voluntary surrender. - Enter quoted additional capacity, the full annual rate and quote date.
Ask the fund first if it is unclear whether the displayed amount is a total ceiling or additional availability. - Separate gross refund, withholding, outstanding principal and other settlement deductions for the same valuation date.
Set each evidence group according to the information actually available. - Choose a 1–12 month preparation horizon for new borrowing and enter planned receipt dates.
A sufficient amount with an unknown receipt date does not establish deadline sufficiency. - Compare cash shortfalls, monthly preparation shortfall, final-month outflow and withheld figures.
Complete the consultation checklist and save TXT or print the worksheet for the fund.
Load fictional example helps explain the fields.
Its limits, refund, withholding, payment status and receipt dates are not individual quotes or approval results.
Editing an input clears the previous result; calculate again to create a worksheet matching the new entries.
Worked fictional example: KRW 5 million required
Assume paid contributions of KRW 20,000,000, gross refund of KRW 21,000,000, quoted withholding of KRW 1,650,000, existing principal of KRW 2,000,000 and other settlement deductions of KRW 50,000.
Use additional capacity of KRW 15,400,000, annual rate 4.1%, 12 months and a monthly preparation budget of KRW 400,000.
The KRW 1,650,000 withholding is a test input rather than an individual tax estimate.
| Item | Calculated amount (KRW) |
|---|---|
| Public total-limit reference | 17,400,000 |
| Additional-capacity reference after existing principal | 15,400,000 |
| Planned new borrowing | 5,000,000 |
| Total planned new-loan interest | 205,000 |
| Total new-loan repayment | 5,205,000 |
| Monthly preparation reserve | 433,750 |
| Monthly preparation shortfall | 33,750 |
| Final-month new-loan outflow | 5,017,083 |
| Surrender cash | 17,300,000 |
Surrender cash is 21,000,000 − 1,650,000 − 2,000,000 − 50,000 = KRW 17,300,000.
The loan plan requires KRW 205,000 of new interest, and the monthly preparation budget falls KRW 33,750 short of the reserve.
Surrender produces a larger receipt by settling accumulated contract assets; it is not a higher return on the same investment.
Read the monthly schedule and balloon repayment correctly
Month 0 is each option’s planned receipt, not necessarily the same calendar date.
Later loan rows allocate new-loan interest; the final month includes the full new principal repayment.
Later surrender rows are zero because the contract is settled and no subsequent cash flows are modeled.
Preparation reserve versus a payment actually billed
The example’s KRW 433,750 per month prepares the total KRW 5,205,000 over 12 months.
It does not say that the fund collects that amount as a monthly installment.
The final-month new-loan outflow is KRW 5,017,083 in this budget schedule; actual interest collection can move cash payments between months.
Reconcile actual date-based interest, quarterly rate changes, partial early repayments and arrears with the institution’s agreement and statements.
Neither future loan renewal nor continuation of the same rate is guaranteed by this worksheet.
Check receipt dates alongside cash amounts
The fictional example uses a required date of 2026-10-20, planned loan receipt on 2026-10-19 and planned surrender receipt on 2026-10-23.
Both amounts cover the need, but the surrender receipt is planned after the required date.
A larger refund is not cash available before a deadline; consider how to cover the intervening period.
An application date is not a receipt date.
Document submission, identity checks, review and payment processing may change actual timing.
A receipt on the required date still needs verification against the time the funds are needed.
Blank dates remain unknown rather than becoming an assumed same-day payment.
A slightly insufficient limit
For a KRW 5,000,000 need and an entered additional ceiling of KRW 4,950,000, the payment-unit floor produces KRW 4,900,000 of planned borrowing.
The shortfall is KRW 100,000, to be covered with account cash or another resource.
Do not interpret the nominal KRW 50,000 ceiling difference as the actual funding gap.
Practical scenarios and decision limits
- Short-term shop repair: compare borrowing and preparation resources if you expect a source for balloon repayment.
Future sales are uncertain, so use a conservative preparation budget. - Family living costs: limited monthly savings may make principal repayment difficult.
A cash shortfall today and a repayment-preparation shortfall are separate problems. - Existing contract loan: obtain the fund’s additional-capacity quote and prepare a separate plan for the earlier debt.
The new-loan schedule does not eliminate existing obligations. - Considering closure or old-age benefits: check actual benefit-payment reasons and special-termination treatment before requesting ordinary surrender.
Obtain an individual refund quote reflecting enrollment history and contribution count.
Continuing contributions, existing-debt future interest and repayment, retained fund assets and future benefits are excluded from this schedule.
Do not use the simple sum of these cash flows as economic profit or a return ranking.
Even a completed confirmed-quote worksheet requires institutional confirmation of approval, actual payment and final tax treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Is the loan ceiling simply 90% of the surrender value?
The official general-loan ceiling is within 90% of the voluntary-surrender refund after expected withholding, and cannot exceed paid contributions.
Existing borrowing reduces additional capacity.
The public formula here is a cross-check, not an approval.
Planned cash uses the additional borrowing limit entered from the fund’s quote.
Should I subtract an existing loan again from the quoted additional limit?
Do not subtract it again if the quoted additional limit already reflects existing borrowing.
Enter outstanding principal once in the surrender settlement group.
When keeping the fund contract, existing principal remains a debt.
Its future interest and maturity need a separate repayment plan alongside the new borrowing.
Can I multiply the entire refund by 16.5% to find the receipt?
No.
The taxable amount depends on contributions without an actual income deduction, enrollment history and termination reason.
The official voluntary-surrender guide describes 15% national income tax plus 1.5% local tax on taxable other income.
Use the fund’s expected combined withholding rather than applying the rate to the entire refund.
Later comprehensive income tax may also matter.
Can I enter business closure, old-age benefits or special termination as voluntary surrender?
This worksheet compares ordinary voluntary surrender only.
Benefit payments and legally recognized special termination can have different tax treatment.
Circumstances such as management deterioration after at least 120 contribution months require recognized conditions and evidence.
Select Other and obtain the relevant fund quote; age or membership years alone do not establish the tax result.
Is the 4.1% public rate fixed for the next year?
The official 2026 Q4 rate for the current on-demand-repayment loan category was checked at 4.1% annually.
The product is described as quarterly variable rate.
This worksheet holds the entered rate constant for budgeting, so actual quarter changes and daily interest can change payments.
Recheck the agreement and applicable rate when applying or renewing.
Is the monthly preparation reserve an installment automatically collected by the fund?
No.
The general-loan guide calls for balloon repayment within one year.
The reserve divides principal plus planned interest by the chosen number of months, rounded up to a whole KRW.
Monthly interest rows are budget allocations.
Actual debit dates, interest collection and early repayment follow the agreement; the reserve is not a contractual installment.
Should I enter zero if tax or existing debt is unknown?
Use zero only when the absence of tax or debt has been verified, with an appropriate evidence state.
Leave unverified groups as Unknown.
Their affected cash figures are withheld.
Select Assumption explicitly if you want a planning calculation.
This keeps facts and budgets distinguishable in a family or institutional discussion.
Does a larger surrender receipt mean surrender is better?
The two choices change assets and liabilities differently.
Borrowing retains the fund contract while adding debt; surrender converts the accumulated asset to cash and ends the contract.
Consider existing debt, future contributions and deduction opportunities, actual receipt dates, later tax and repayment resources.
The worksheet shows cash and preparation shortfalls, without a return ranking or recommendation.
