How long can a Korean delinquency record remain after repayment?
This calculator helps people who have repaid a Korean loan or card debt plan their next credit-record checks.
It can also help a family member organize payment evidence before discussing refinancing.
A payment receipt does not establish that every institution has removed a record or stopped using it for scoring.
The calculation uses Korean rules and disclosures checked in 2026, with amounts in KRW.
Repayment, centralized released-history sharing and credit bureau scoring are separate processes.
The tool does not access an account or verify a live report, and its outer dates are not promises of score recovery or loan approval.
Three schedules to keep separate
Meaning and verification sources for payment, centralized sharing and CB scoring schedules| Schedule | Meaning | Where to check |
|---|
| Payment / release-check anchor | The entered full-payment date, used as the starting point for verification | Receipt and reporting financial institution |
| Ordinary centralized sharing | The reference period for ordinary sharing of released history | Credit4U and the reporting institution |
| NICE / KCB scoring use | The period in which a bureau may use past information in assessment | Each bureau’s disclosure and individual report |
A lender’s internal information-management period is also a separate question.
Article 18 of the Credit Information Use and Protection Act addresses adverse information, while Article 20-2 concerns information following the end of a commercial relationship.
Different exceptions apply; absence from one report is not proof that all information held for other permitted purposes has disappeared.
Evidence and dates to prepare
Record type and registered amount
Identify a CB short-delinquency record or a centralized long-delinquency record from the report.
Days and amount alone do not confirm registration.
Use the registered amount rather than substituting one missed installment or the current total loan balance, which can change the low-amount test.
First overdue day and registration cause
The first overdue day is the actual start of arrears, usually after the due date.
The registration-cause date is a separate report field and can be different.
Leave an unknown cause date blank; the tool does not infer it from the first overdue day.
Full-payment date and evidence date
A partial payment does not start a post-resolution period.
Reconcile full-payment evidence with the reporting institution and enter when the facts were checked.
A completed payment cannot be later than the evidence date; a future payment is explicitly a scenario.
History and special handling
A small current amount does not remove the importance of previous records.
Student loans, rehabilitation, debt adjustment and temporary relief can follow separate rules.
Select unknown where evidence is incomplete; ordinary automatic dates are withheld for unverified or special cases.
NICE short records: no use, 1 year or 3 years
Footnote 7 in NICE’s detailed use-period disclosure distinguishes post-release treatment by history.
First check for centralized creditworthiness or public-information history in the last 5 years and credit-company long-delinquency history in the last 3 years.
A single record below means that this is the only CB short record in the last 3 years.
NICE conditional post-release use periods for CB short-delinquency records| History | Current record | Post-release use |
|---|
| No specified adverse history; one record | Under 30 days OR under KRW 300,000 | No use |
| No specified adverse history; one record | At least 30 days AND at least KRW 300,000 | 1 year |
| Outside those exceptions | Multiple records, specified adverse history or other cases | Up to 3 years |
The OR and AND conditions are different.
Do not round 29 days to 30 or KRW 299,999 to KRW 300,000.
If the necessary history is unknown, the result remains a range from no post-release use to the 3-year outer reference date, and the next action is to verify history.
Centralized history and KCB use periods
Ordinary low-amount and 90-day exceptions
The Korea Credit Information Services FAQ describes released-history treatment using KRW 10 million for loans and KRW 5 million for card debt.
An amount at or below the relevant threshold, or repayment within 90 days of the registration-cause date, is shown as the ordinary immediate-treatment reference.
Otherwise the ordinary sharing cap is the shorter of the unpaid period and 1 calendar year after resolution.
Scoring, information processing and dispute-evidence exceptions under Article 19 of the Supervisory Regulation are separate from that ordinary sharing period.
Read each bureau’s maximum in context
KCB discloses up to 3 years of use after repayment for under-90-day short delinquency and up to 5 years for long delinquency.
Earlier non-use, including repayment before 8 business days, requires separate verification, so this tool shows a range from repayment to the outer reference date.
It does not transfer NICE’s 1-year exception to KCB or treat all weekdays as financial business days.
Centralized long-delinquency information has a 5-year outer scoring reference range for NICE and KCB.
NICE’s low-amount non-use criteria and student-loan or other record-specific exceptions still require institutional confirmation.
A maximum use period is not a prediction that the same score penalty will persist throughout it.
How to use the calculator
- Prepare a current report and full-payment evidence; enter the evidence and reference dates.
- Select the loan/card and short/long record type shown on the report and its actual registered amount.
- Enter the first overdue day and full-payment or planned date.
For a long record, add the registration-cause date only when verified.
- For a short record, check history; also confirm whether temporary relief or another special treatment applies.
Keep unknown facts marked unknown.
- Read each rule and withheld item, then save or print the reference report.
Changes to inputs require recalculation before saving.
Two fictional worked examples
KRW 15,000,000 long loan record
Assume both the first overdue day and registration-cause date are 2026-05-01, with full payment on 2026-08-01.
The calendar-day convention gives 92 unpaid days.
Without an ordinary exception, the sharing outer date is 2026-11-01, another 92 days after payment.
The separate 5-year CB outer date is 2031-08-01.
At a 2026-10-21 reference date, the next check is 2026-11-01, 11 days later.
KRW 300,000 short card record
From 2026-06-01 to payment on 2026-07-01 is 30 days.
With no specified adverse history and only this record in 3 years, NICE’s outer reference is 2027-07-01.
KCB’s 3-year outer reference remains 2029-07-01.
Under the same clean, single-record conditions, KRW 299,999 or 29 days instead meets NICE’s no-post-release-use test.
These are fictional verification examples for the implemented date rules, not decisions on real accounts or representative market outcomes.
Future reference dates hold the 2026 disclosures constant and must be rechecked at the time of use.
Interpret the schedule and next-check date
- Reference range: payment through the disclosed outer-use date.
This is not a verified processing date or a projected credit score.
- Conditional: assumed facts, planned repayment, unknown history or an incomplete registration-cause date can change the result.
- Withheld: no ordinary automatic date is produced for unpaid, unidentified, special or unverified cases.
- Next record-check reference date: unresolved information calls for a check on the reference date; otherwise the earliest remaining outer date is selected.
It is not an instruction that every loan application must wait until then.
Days are UTC calendar days from the first overdue day, excluding the full-payment date.
Year periods use calendar-year anniversaries, with February 29 mapped to February 28 in a non-leap year.
There is no business-day or holiday adjustment, and no claim to determine a statutory final deletion deadline or processing time.
Confirm boundary dates directly with the institution.
Use cases for refinancing, family support and discrepancies
Preparing to refinance
Confirm payment evidence and actual release first, then ask the financial institution about its requirements.
Income, debt, collateral and internal underwriting can also matter; an outer-use date alone does not establish approval eligibility.
Helping a parent organize records
Use the account holder’s consent and official authentication procedures.
Keep receipts, institutional replies and the evidence date together.
This calculator does not need names, resident registration numbers or account numbers.
A record still appears after payment
Distinguish an active delinquency, released history and a public-information entry.
If a report conflicts with payment evidence, ask the reporting institution about correction and check scoring use separately with each bureau.
Temporary relief and separate record types
The Financial Services Commission’s 2026-02-13 material describes relief for delinquency of at most KRW 50 million arising from January 2020 through August 2025 and fully repaid by the end of 2025.
The tool does not extend that deadline to 2026 repayments.
Its notice only flags the basic dates and amount for review; it does not establish full payment of every relevant account, the applicable registered-amount basis or actual processing.
Debt adjustment and personal rehabilitation can involve separate handling of existing delinquency, public information and loan-account information.
Older blanket statements about 5 years for rehabilitation or 2 years for credit recovery should not be applied to every current case.
Tax, student-loan, telecom, dishonor, subrogation, dispute and limitation-period questions also require separate rules.
Elapsed time here does not mean a debt has been extinguished.
Use official record access and the reporting institution’s answer to establish the current position before paying anyone who advertises record-removal services.
Frequently asked questions
Does full repayment remove every delinquency record immediately?
Payment starts the verification process.
Ordinary released-history sharing and scoring use are separate, and actual system release must be checked with the reporting institution.
Do both the NICE amount and day conditions need to be met?
After confirming clean specified history and a single record, under 30 days OR under KRW 300,000 means no post-release use.
At least 30 days AND at least KRW 300,000 leads to the 1-year condition.
If NICE shows 1 year, does KCB also use 1 year?
No shared conclusion follows.
KCB is shown with its disclosed short-record maximum of 3 years and possible earlier non-use.
Can I substitute the first overdue day for an unknown registration-cause date?
They can differ.
Leave the cause date blank; the calculator preserves a range instead of confirming the immediate-treatment exception.
What if I have only made a partial repayment?
A partial payment does not start the post-resolution schedule.
Unpaid cases have no end date; a future full-payment date is a scenario.
Will I get a loan on the next-check date?
The date organizes record verification.
It does not guarantee credit-score recovery, approval, a rate or a lending limit.
Does the calculator confirm eligibility for 2025 relief?
It only highlights the basic date and amount window.
Confirm all relevant accounts, full repayment and actual support processing with the institution.
Can I use these periods for rehabilitation or tax arrears?
Those record types have different anchors and exceptions.
Select the separate-case option and confirm current rules with the responsible institution.
