Compares Korean gold bar, KRX spot gold, domestic gold ETF, overseas gold ETF, and gold banking tax and cost outcomes with VAT, dividend tax, transfer tax, expense ratio, and withdrawal VAT rules. This English calculator calls the same pure tax calculation function used by the Korean page. Inputs and labels are translated; the formula is not replaced by a generic value-times-rate stub.

Gold investment tax comparison calculator

This English page translates the Korean gold-investment comparison across gold bars, KRX spot gold, domestic gold ETFs, overseas gold ETFs, and gold banking.

Methods compared

Physical gold bars are modeled with fabrication or premium cost, 10 percent VAT on purchase, and sale spread, but individual transfer gains are tax-free in the source model.

KRX spot gold is modeled with low trading commission and tax-free on-exchange capital gain. If physical gold is withdrawn from KRX, the model applies 10 percent VAT on withdrawal value.

ETF and gold banking tax

Domestic gold ETFs and gold banking are modeled as dividend-income-type products. Separate taxation uses 15.4 percent, while comprehensive taxation can apply if financial income and marginal rate make it relevant.

Overseas gold ETFs are modeled like overseas stock transfer income: 22 percent transfer tax after the KRW 2.5 million annual basic deduction. The calculator also includes buy fees, sell fees, FX spread, and annual expense ratio assumptions.

Break-even and ranking

The Korean function ranks all methods by after-tax proceeds and calculates the price move needed to break even. A tax-free method can still rank lower if purchase VAT or spread is large.

Use the result to compare product structure, not to forecast gold prices. Actual broker fees, bid-ask spreads, exchange rates, storage, redemption rules, and personal comprehensive-tax status can change the ranking.
