Korea Moving Storage Cost Calculator

Compare container, self-storage, and warehouse quotes with transport, handling, lodging, and a rental extension in KRW.

Compare the full cost between moving dates

Include storage, handling, transport both ways, and temporary accommodation. Enter final tax-inclusive prices in KRW. Empty zero-price quotes stay out of the comparison until confirmed.

Confirm whether arrival and collection days count. Enter zero for free lodging. Re-enter quotes if prices change with the length of stay.

For an exact quote, enter the same low and high price. The default 30-day period may differ from a calendar month. Home floor area is not converted into required storage space.

Extras apply to the entire load once. Set included handling or options to zero. Daily options use actual days, independently of minimum billing. Fold period-based options into the storage rate.

This is neither a guaranteed payout nor a statutory cap. Check deductibles, exclusions, and whether transport and storage are both covered.

When the date you must leave your current home differs from the date your new home becomes available, you need somewhere for both your belongings and your family.
A gap between property settlements or a delayed renovation can require two transport legs and temporary accommodation, even for a short stay.
Multiplying an advertised daily storage price by your days can miss handling fees and minimum rental periods.

This calculator compares actual quotes for mover containers, self-storage, and warehouse rental over the same duration.
It adds transport both ways, handling, options, and accommodation, then compares the result with a short extension of your current rental.
A low storage charge can still produce a higher total once you include transport and lodging; expensive extension rent can reverse the conclusion.

Korea-based comparison · KRW · Sources checked 2026-09-05

Use actual, final tax-inclusive quotes in Korean won.
No national average or confirmed operator price is applied automatically.
Blank quotes are excluded until you confirm them, and the fictional example button supplies arithmetic examples rather than market prices.
A confirmed free service is different from a service you have not priced yet.

Compare three methods for the same belongings and services

Mover container

Confirm container count, dimensions, indoor or outdoor location, and transport inclusions.
If a package includes all required transport, select the inclusion checkbox to avoid adding it again.
Separately check whether retrieving and unloading your belongings is included.

Self-storage

Check the number of units or rented area, minimum period, access hours, and collection procedure.
Do not assume space rental includes a moving vehicle or loading staff.
Check parking and freight-elevator access as well.

Warehouse rental

Distinguish a whole-space quote from a price per square metre, and check shared aisles and stacking height.
A rental deposit and a service that takes custody of your goods are separate contract conditions.
Assess humidity, leaks, and security alongside price.

Homes of the same floor area can need different storage capacity because of furniture, dismantling, and stacking arrangements.
The calculator does not convert home floor area into containers or warehouse space.
Use a quantity checked by the operator against your inventory, and do not multiply an entire-load quote by the number of containers again.

Inputs to copy from your quotes

Duration and billing period

Enter the actual chargeable days agreed with the operator.
Confirm whether arrival and collection days both count.
For a weekly quote, use a seven-day period; for a monthly quote, use the day basis specified in the agreement.
The default 30 days is a planning assumption, not a rule for every month or contract.

Price range and capacity

Low and high prices should cover the same service scope.
For a fixed quote, enter the same amount in both fields.
Choose an entire-load quote, a per-unit or per-container quote, or a price per square metre.
Unit counts must be integers; area can have decimals.
Do not confuse an area rate with total rent.

Transport, handling, and options

Enter the entire-load cost per one-way journey and the number of charged trips.
Arrival and collection usually mean two journeys, but your quote takes priority.
Check handling separately from transport.
Daily climate-control or security extras apply to the entire load; include period-based options in the storage rate instead.

Lodging, extras, and deposits

The daily accommodation total for your family is added equally to all storage alternatives.
Enter one-time packing, lift, and insurance charges under other costs.
Additional refundable deposits increase funding needs, not the cost comparison.
Exclude deposits already paid and costs unrelated to this decision.

All amounts should be final tax-inclusive prices.
If you only have a pre-tax quote, ask for the final payable amount before entering it.
Set separately listed insurance, handling, or options to zero when they are already included, and avoid treating an unpriced item as free.

Daily, prorated, and full-period formulas

From storage charges to the total

  • Billed day basis b = max(actual days d, minimum billed days)
  • Daily billing factor f = b
  • Prorated period factor f = b ÷ days per period
  • Full-period factor f = ceil(b ÷ days per period)
  • Storage charge = rate × quantity × f, rounded to whole KRW
  • Total = storage + transport + handling + daily options × d + daily lodging × d + one-time other costs

An entire-load quote uses a quantity of one, and included transport is not added again.
Transport, handling, and other amounts apply to the entire load without another container multiplier.
Daily options and lodging use actual days; the minimum chargeable period applies to storage.
A minimum one-month storage charge can therefore coexist with only one week of accommodation.

Compare against extending the rental

Extension total = round((period rent + management) × extension billing factor) + direct moving cost + brokerage and other costs.
Savings range from extension total minus storage high to extension total minus storage low.
A negative saving means storage is more expensive.
Include the direct move after the rental extension; omitting it makes that alternative look artificially cheap.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Set the gap between homes.
Confirm when your belongings must leave and when you can move in.
If construction may be delayed, compare both the expected duration and an extra week.
  2. Request quotes for the same inventory.
List beds, appliances, wardrobes, boxes, and dismantling needs so capacity and service scope are comparable.
  3. Enter prices and billing rules.
Check low and high prices, minimum periods, transport, and handling, then confirm each quote.
Changing price conditions clears the confirmation so you can review the revised assumptions.
  4. Enter the rental extension alternative.
Ask the landlord whether the relevant duration is available and whether rent and management are prorated.
Do not assume an extension has been agreed when it has not.
  5. Read totals, increments, and intervals, then print.
Check the selected duration and the cost of an extra day or week.
Print or save a PDF to agree a family budget and request written terms from the operator.

Worked example: 30 days of moving storage

The following fictional quote demonstrates the arithmetic and is not an operator price or market average.
Assume an entire-load storage charge of KRW 300,000–360,000 per 30 days, two transport trips at KRW 400,000, two handling visits at KRW 20,000, daily options of KRW 1,000, daily lodging of KRW 20,000, and other costs of KRW 20,000.

Fictional 30-day container storage total and rental extension comparison
ItemAmount (KRW)
Storage300,000–360,000
Two trips + two handling visits840,000
30 days of options + other costs50,000
30 days of lodging600,000
Total storage alternative1,790,000–1,850,000
Rent 900,000 + management 100,000 + direct move 500,0001,500,000

Extending the rental costs KRW 290,000–350,000 less under these assumptions.
If staying with family removes lodging costs, the storage total falls to KRW 1,190,000–1,250,000 and the conclusion reverses.
Your actual living arrangements can therefore matter more than the storage unit price.
A refundable deposit leaves the cost comparison unchanged but increases the funds you need during the contract.

Extra-day charges and break-even storage days

Check the boundary between day 30 and day 31

With no other costs and a full-period charge of KRW 300,000–360,000 for each started 30-day period, day 30 costs one period and day 31 costs two.
The day-31 total is KRW 600,000–720,000, an extra storage charge of KRW 300,000–360,000 for that one day.
Dividing the period price by thirty would miss this billing boundary.
The storage-charge increment and total-cost increment can also differ because the total includes lodging and daily options.

A simple prorated crossing

Suppose storage costs KRW 300,000 per 30 days plus KRW 500,000 fixed, while rental extension costs KRW 900,000 per 30 days plus KRW 100,000 fixed, with both prorated.
At 20 days, both cost KRW 700,000; storage becomes cheaper from day 21.
With price ranges, you can have an overlapping interval rather than one exact crossing day.

The calculator compares every integer day from 1 to 365 and reports all comparison intervals.
Full-period billing can switch the cheaper option several times, so the first cheaper day is not necessarily a permanent break-even point.
No cheaper storage day within 365 days only describes the search horizon, not every possible duration afterward.
Long-stay discounts, peak-season changes, special overrun rates, and calendar-month billing may invalidate the unchanged-price assumption; obtain revised quotes when those apply.

Interpret results and apply them to your move

  • Storage costs less: even the high storage estimate is below rental extension.
This compares entered costs, not facility quality or contract suitability.
  • Ranges overlap: the final price could change the result.
Do not pick only the lowest endpoint; ask for an exact quote to narrow the range.
  • Unconfirmed: that quote is excluded from rankings and curves.
A genuinely free service can be confirmed at zero after checking its scope.
  • Funding required: the full-period cost plus additional refundable deposits.
Confirm the actual schedule of advance payments, booking deposits, and balances separately.

A short settlement gap

Check for a minimum month even if the gap is only a week.
Two moves and temporary lodging may exceed the storage charge itself.
Compare the current-home extension with all moving expenses, and budget for an extra week if the new home is not ready.

Storage during renovation

Compare 30-, 60-, and 90-day scenarios against the construction schedule.
Increase paid visits if you will collect belongings midway through the stay.
Get written conditions for long-stay discounts and early termination, and document ventilation, humidity, and storage-location requirements.

Damage coverage limits and contract checks

A coverage limit entered from a contract is not a promised payment.
Covered goods, item-specific limits, deductibles, exclusions, and evidence can change how a claim is assessed.
An unknown limit stays unconfirmed, and no insurance payment is deducted from storage costs.
The calculator does not invent second-hand values or depreciation to estimate compensation.

Distinguish legal liability from a contractual limit

Article 135 of the Korean Commercial Act addresses carrier liability concerning receipt, delivery, storage, and transport of goods.
Article 160 addresses warehouse operator liability concerning goods deposited for storage.
Transport, custody, and simple space rental may have different legal characteristics; the calculator does not apply identical liability rules to every self-storage contract.
Neither article is used to derive a national storage price or a fixed statutory compensation cap.

  • Before collection, photograph furniture and appliances, including model details and existing damage, and keep an inventory.
  • Check the location, ventilation, temperature and humidity arrangements, stacking, access, and partial collection procedure.
  • Get written terms for extension requests, minimum periods, discount recovery, early termination, and additional transport and handling.
  • If loss or damage occurs, record the goods and packaging and notify the operator.
Check applicable contract and legal deadlines separately.

Frequently asked questions

How much does one month of moving storage cost?

The load, method, location, transport, and minimum period vary, so this tool does not offer a single average price.
Enter actual quote ranges to compare totals with a consistent scope.

Can one day of storage trigger a monthly charge?

It depends on the contract.
Enter the minimum billed days and full-period rule where applicable.
Even a daily storage offer can have separate transport and handling charges.

Can I compare weekly or monthly stays?

Enter the stay in days and set the billing period to match the quote.
A weekly period can use 7 days, but calendar months differ in length and require a contract-specific check.

What if extending my rental is unavailable?

Leave extension availability off.
Storage alternatives can still be compared, while savings against rent and break-even intervals remain pending.
Compare options that are actually available.

When does storage become cheaper as the stay gets longer?

Check both the first definitely cheaper storage day and every later interval.
Full-period billing and quote ranges can reverse the preferred option or leave the comparison unresolved.

Are deposits and coverage limits deducted from cost?

Refundable deposits are added separately to funding needs.
Coverage limits are informational only; an insurance payment is not deducted because entitlement and the amount are not established.
