What does the Korea bulky-waste disposal fee calculator do?
Furniture, mattresses, and other household objects that do not fit an ordinary volume-rate bag normally require a local bulky-waste filing in South Korea.
The item names, size bands, filing methods, and fees are set locally, so there is no single nationwide sticker price.
This calculator searches the official item and specification rows collected for 30 major municipalities and totals the selected quantities in Korean won.
It can also remove only appliances whose official free-pickup eligibility you have confirmed and compare the result with a private quote you actually received.
Korea-specific scope
This English page explains a Korean municipal service and keeps the published Korean item names so they can be matched on an official filing site.
It does not estimate a fee for another country, interpret business or construction waste, issue a disposal number, or book a pickup.
If your municipality or item is missing, use its current official fee as a manual input instead of substituting a nearby area.
Understand the published fee rows
The Public Data Portal standard dataset provides province, district, bulky-waste item, category, specification, paid or free status, fee, managing authority, and data reference date.
The calculator preserves the Korean item and specification wording because local filing menus commonly use that wording.
The current scope contains 1,451 rows whose published descriptions identify one fee.
It excludes 623 source candidates where the municipality, item, specification, and paid-or-free description were otherwise identical but the fee conflicted, so verify and manually enter an official amount when no usable row appears.
The data date is not a promise that the amount is still current, and a local ordinance or filing system may have changed afterward.
Treat the calculated total as a planning amount and use the municipality's official filing page or responsible office as the final source before payment.
Fields in Korea's public bulky-waste fee data and checks before filing| Published field | How the calculator uses it | What to verify |
|---|
| Item and category | Shows the authority's original Korean description | Match the function and material of the actual object |
| Specification | Distinguishes dimensions, seats, sets, frames, or other bands | Measure first and check what components are included |
| Fee | Uses the published amount for one selected unit | Multiply by quantity and compare with the current filing total |
| Reference date | Displays the date attached by the data provider | Check later ordinance and filing-system changes |
Step-by-step workflow
- Select the disposal municipality. Review its data reference date, managing authority, and number of included rows before using a fee.
- Measure the physical item. Record width, height, seat count, material, frame, glass, cushions, and whether a set is complete or separated.
- Find the closest official row. Filter one of the 20 household groups and search the Korean name or specification rather than choosing on price alone.
- Add each specification separately. Increase quantity only when multiple objects genuinely share the same published specification.
- Confirm appliance pickup. Mark free pickup only after checking the official E-Cycle guide or calling 1599-0903 for the product's condition and collection requirements.
- Enter an actual private quote if needed. Copy its callout fee, estimated weight, per-tonne charge, and labour, stairs, or dismantling extras without inventing an average.
- Finish on the official filing site. Recheck the current item, amount, pickup date, placement location, and required disposal label or number.
Search tip.
Korean authorities may publish alternate spellings such as 소파 and 쇼파 or 매트리스 and 메트리스.
Try a short term or browse an item group when an exact phrase returns nothing.
If no row fits, ask the authority for the correct classification and enter the confirmed amount manually.
Formulas and a worked example
Municipal and private route formulas
Published municipal total = sum of each unit fee × quantity.
Confirmed free-pickup saving = sum of fee × quantity for checked eligible appliances.
Estimated municipal payment = published total − confirmed free-pickup saving.
Private quote total = callout fee + estimated kg ÷ 1,000 × fee per tonne + extras.
Route difference = private quote total − estimated municipal payment.
The following figures demonstrate arithmetic only and are not a current municipal tariff, market average, fair price, or provider quote.
Two items at KRW 5,000 and one appliance at KRW 8,000 produce a published total of KRW 18,000.
If the KRW 8,000 appliance has been confirmed for official free pickup, the estimated municipal payment becomes KRW 10,000.
A real private quote with a KRW 20,000 callout, 500 kilograms at KRW 100,000 per tonne, and KRW 10,000 of extras totals KRW 80,000, leaving a KRW 70,000 difference.
Hypothetical Korean bulky-waste disposal fee calculation| Calculation | Hypothetical arithmetic | Result |
|---|
| Published total | KRW 5,000 × 2 + KRW 8,000 × 1 | KRW 18,000 |
| Free-pickup saving | One confirmed appliance at KRW 8,000 | − KRW 8,000 |
| Municipal payment | KRW 18,000 − KRW 8,000 | KRW 10,000 |
| Private quote | KRW 20,000 + 500kg ÷ 1,000 × KRW 100,000 + KRW 10,000 | KRW 80,000 |
When can appliance pickup be free?
Refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, larger displays, and certain other electrical products may qualify for the official free home-pickup service.
Small appliances generally have a multi-item condition, while damaged products, custom-built equipment, or products still requiring unsafe dismantling can be excluded.
The calculator therefore presents a confirmation checkbox for likely electrical groups but never decides eligibility from the item name alone.
Check the latest product, quantity, condition, installation, access, area, and reservation rules before subtracting a fee.
Losses a prior check can prevent
- Buying a paid municipal label for an appliance accepted by the free service
- Discovering on moving day that damage or installation makes the product unacceptable
- Missing the minimum bundled quantity for smaller electrical products
- Counting a TV stand or furniture with an electrical part as a qualifying appliance
Evidence to keep
- The official category and single-item or bundled-pickup condition
- The reservation confirmation, pickup address, date, and access instructions
- Any requirement to detach installed equipment before the visit
- The current guide or advice from the official 1599-0903 service line
Practical planning scenarios
Clearing furniture before a move
Photograph and measure each object room by room before building the disposal list.
Confirm lift booking, placement area, collection date, and whether residents must carry items outside with the building manager.
Helping parents or clearing an estate
Separate reusable goods, qualifying appliances, and municipal bulky waste before requesting an all-in private quote.
A private service may include indoor carrying, dismantling, or cleaning that the municipal fee does not, so compare both cost and scope.
Replacing furniture and appliances together
Check whether the retailer takes back an old product and whether official appliance pickup applies before buying municipal labels.
Leave only the remaining furniture and nonqualifying objects in the paid filing list.
Reviewing a private collector quote
Enter the full callout, weight, per-tonne, stairs, lift, dismantling, and labour conditions instead of comparing a headline price.
Verify the collector's permitted scope and written terms, especially every event that can change the price on site.
Disposal rules and administrative fines
Article 14 of Korea's Waste Control Act allows local ordinances to set household-waste fees, which is why municipalities publish different amounts and classifications.
Article 8 prohibits dumping outside designated places or methods, while Article 15 requires household dischargers to follow the local disposal method.
Article 68 and Enforcement Decree Annex 8 list KRW 100,000 for a first household breach of a local disposal method, KRW 200,000 for a second, and KRW 300,000 for a third or later breach.
Other conduct, including disposal from a vehicle or waste arising from business activity, can fall under different rows, and the statutory ceiling for some violations is KRW 1 million.
These figures are context, not a legal classification or prediction of a fine for your case.
Final placement checklist
- Display the filing number or label where it can be read easily
- Match the filed item, specification, and quantity to the objects outside
- Use the designated date, location, and apartment-building removal time
- Check separate handling instructions for glass, mirrors, and breakable parts
- Confirm separately whether business, renovation, or construction waste is eligible

Frequently asked questions
Why does the official filing site show a different amount?
The ordinance or classification may have changed after the public-data date, or the selected specification may not match the object.
Use the filing site's current amount as final and report a data issue to the responsible authority when appropriate.
What if my area or item is not listed?
Choose the manual-area option and enter the name and amount confirmed on the municipality's official site.
Do not borrow the price of a similar object or neighbouring district because the filing can be rejected or underpaid.
Are every refrigerator and washing machine collected free?
No.
Eligibility depends on product, size, quantity, damage, installation, access, region, and reservation capacity, so confirm the current official rules first.
Is the lower route automatically the better choice?
No.
Municipal filing may require you to carry an object to a designated point, while a private quote may include indoor carrying or dismantling, so compare permission, scope, timing, labour, and responsibility as well as money.
Does this calculator file or book the collection?
No.
It prepares a cost comparison only, and you must complete payment, obtain the filing number, and arrange placement through the official municipality or free-pickup service.
Build the list from the actual objects and specifications
Select a municipality and published rows to see the fee total, confirmed free-pickup saving, and difference from an actual private quote.
Then confirm the latest classification and price on the official filing page and place every item at the approved location and time.
