Korea Engineer and Industrial Engineer Eligibility Route Calculator

Compare recognized credits, related education, existing qualifications and post-acquisition experience before paying for additional courses under Korean rules verified in 2026.

Korean rules verified in 2026. Compare Engineer 106 + 18 non-transferred credits, Industrial Engineer 41/81 credits, and experience after education or qualification.

The subject name does not automatically establish related education or duties. Verify recognition and the review date with Q-net before entering evidence.

1. Target subject and review date

2. Documented education

Do not infer final-year or half-program status from a year number. Engineer college routes require one or two years after graduation; 41/81 credits alone do not establish a graduation date.

3. Recognized credits and additional plans

Additional credits not yet recognized

4. Existing national technical qualification

For the experience route, confirm that actual duties after acquisition are in the same/similar target field. Save a separate comparison for each existing qualification.

5. Employment periods and duration review

An empty end date means ongoing through the records date. Split rows around leave or gaps. Only confirmed related duties are counted; overlapping dates count once.

Optional: route-specific months reviewed with Q-net

The ledger provides full calendar months and residual days as a reference. It does not convert residuals using 30 days per month or 365 days per year. Enter reviewed months matching this review date and route start date; they replace, rather than add to, the reference. Leave these blank for a future review date.

Enter the selected exam date and official review date to compare routes.

Next checks and preparation

  1. Compare the department, job duties and recorded periods in Q-net self-diagnosis and document review.
  2. Check the last written-test date and document deadline for the session. Missing credits need completed official recognition.
  3. If an education or qualification route is already prepared, review its evidence before paying for more courses.

How can you prepare for a Korean Engineer or Industrial Engineer exam?

Before paying for training or choosing textbooks, check the eligibility route for your intended technical qualification.
Korean Engineer (Gisa) and Industrial Engineer (Saneop Gisa) exams have alternative routes based on related education, recognized credits, existing qualifications and practical experience.
A related degree or another recognized qualification may already provide a route, while a college graduate applying for an Engineer exam may need experience after graduation.

Review existing evidence before buying more credits

This calculator helps adults preparing for a career change, Academic Credit Bank learners and families funding their study compare missing requirements.
It uses Korean rules verified in 2026, not overseas professional engineering licensing standards.
The target subject name does not automatically establish a related major or recognized job field.
Enter evidence checked with Q-net to distinguish prepared routes, additional preparation and outstanding reviews.
Results do not guarantee eligibility approval, passing or certificate issuance; the responsible authority conducts the actual document review.

Main routes for the two qualification grades

Article 14(7) and Annex 4-2 of the Enforcement Decree of the National Technical Qualifications Act provide alternative grade-specific requirements.
The following table covers the ordinary domestic routes supported here.
Satisfy the conditions of one applicable route; do not combine pieces of unrelated credit and experience routes to invent an additional route.

Ordinary Korean Engineer and Industrial Engineer routes and experience after acquisition or graduation
GradeRoute and prerequisitesRequired experience
EngineerRelated university graduation, completion or final year; or bachelor program with 106 credits including 18 non-transferred creditsNone additional
EngineerAfter graduating from a related three-year college1 year / 12 months
EngineerAfter related two-year college graduation or recognized completion of 1/2 of a university program2 years / 24 months
EngineerAfter Industrial Engineer or higher acquisition / after Craftsman acquisition1 year / 3 years
EngineerAnother Engineer-or-higher subject in the same/similar field / experience aloneNone additional / 4 years
Industrial EngineerRelated university/college graduation, final-year or equivalent status; or program-specific 41/81 recognized creditsNone additional
Industrial EngineerAfter Craftsman-or-higher acquisition / experience alone1 year / 2 years
Industrial EngineerAnother Industrial-Engineer-or-higher subject in the same/similar fieldNone additional

The annex notes define university-graduate-equivalent status for people who completed a university or graduate program without receiving its degree.
They also define two-year-college-graduate equivalence for completion of at least 1/2 of an entire university program.
Use school evidence and Q-net review, rather than a year number or an assumed credit total, to select these statuses.
The experience start date associated with equivalent education also needs official review.

What do 106, 81, 41 and 18 credits mean?

The Engineer 106-credit route has two simultaneous conditions

Annex 4-2 treats a person with at least 106 credits recognized under Article 7 of the Act on Recognition of Credits, etc., as a prospective university graduate.
Those recognized credits must include at least 18 credits other than credits transferred from university enrollment.
These 18 non-transferred credits are a subset of the total, so 106 + 18 does not automatically mean a 124-credit requirement.
Conversely, a total of 106 with only 17 qualifying non-transferred credits leaves one condition unmet.

41 and 81 credits represent prospective college-graduate routes

The same notes treat at least 41 recognized credits as two-year college prospective-graduate status and at least 81 as three-year college prospective-graduate status.
The screen distinguishes the 41-credit comparison for bachelor/two-year associate programs and the 81-credit comparison for three-year associate programs, with separate related-major verification.
The 18-credit non-transferred condition is applied to the Engineer 106-credit route, not added to these Industrial Engineer routes.
Prospective-graduate equivalence alone does not establish a graduation date for an Engineer route requiring experience after college graduation.

Taking courses or applying for recognition is different from having credits officially recognized.
Copy the total, its non-transferred subset and the recognition date from the official certificate into the current-credit fields.
Put future course, qualification or independent-study credits only in the additional-plan fields after checking major classification and duplicate-credit exclusions.
Mixing planned and recognized credits could make an incomplete route appear already prepared.

Separate the exam, review and evidence dates

Selected examination and official review date

Article 14(4) of the Enforcement Rule uses the written-test date for eligibility document review.
When applicants can choose among several written-test dates, it uses the last written-test date of that examination session.
Without a written test, use the application deadline for the practical test or interview.
Do not assume the session-wide last date equals your selected date.

Records date and submission deadline

The records as-of date is the date through which your credits, qualifications and employment records have been checked.
Completed periods and acquisition or recognition dates cannot exceed it.
Enter the designated document submission deadline separately from the eligibility review date.
These dates serve different legal purposes; a later submission deadline does not automatically allow extra credits or experience earned after the review date.

For education, choose documented graduation, program completion, final-year enrollment or half-program status and the date that status was reached.
Select one existing qualification and verify its grade and acquisition date.
The direct route based on another subject requires the appropriate grade, a different subject and confirmed same/similar job-field recognition.
The qualification-plus-experience route examines whether actual duties after acquisition belong to the target job field.

How are missing credits and employment periods calculated?

Avoid counting the two credit deficits twice

Engineer total-credit deficit = max(0, 106 − current officially recognized total).
Non-transferred-credit deficit = max(0, 18 − current recognized non-transferred credits).
Minimum additional credits = max(total-credit deficit, non-transferred-credit deficit); do not add both deficits.
The same qualifying additional credits can contribute to both conditions.
Actual major recognition, duplicate-credit exclusions and completed recognition dates remain separate checks.

Count the union of employment dates once

Adding overlapping jobs in full inflates the calendar record.
The calculator includes both endpoints of confirmed same/similar-duty periods, merges overlapping or adjacent intervals and reports overlap days removed.
For post-qualification or post-graduation routes, the conservative reference starts on the following day and shows days excluded before that route start.
Officially reviewed duration inputs take precedence over this reference treatment.

Full calendar months and remaining actual days in each merged interval are reference quantities.
Month-end cases with no corresponding day are handled, but residual days in separated intervals are not converted using 30 days per month or 365 days per year.
Reference missing months are required months minus complete calendar months, a conservative planning quantity that may differ from the actual recognized shortfall.
An experience-dependent route needs Q-net reviewed cumulative months matching both this review date and the relevant qualification/education start date before it can become a numerical candidate.
Reviewed months replace the reference months; do not add the two quantities.

Step-by-step use

  1. Choose the target grade and optional subject note, then verify that the supported ordinary domestic routes apply.
Foreign, military, part-time or technical-training exceptions belong in the individual-review scope.
  2. Compare the records date, your selected examination, the official session review date and designated document deadline with the announcement.
Select confirmation checkboxes only after reviewing evidence.
  3. Enter current values from school documents and the credit-recognition certificate.
Keep unverified related-department or related-major status unconfirmed.
  4. Copy qualification acquisition and employment dates.
Split periods around leave or gaps and mark only confirmed duties as related.
  5. Enter unrecognized credits in the plan fields with their expected official recognition date.
Select the continuous-work assumption only if ongoing employment is intended to continue.
  6. Expand route-specific shortfalls and evidence checks, then save the TXT review.
Discuss evidence with the authority before choosing document completion or genuinely missing coursework.

The example demonstrates the tool and is not an official examination schedule.
Loading it does not select evidence-confirmation checkboxes.
Replace its values with your own records; if you hold multiple qualifications, save one comparison for each qualification.

Worked examples: current shortfall and a plan before review

Engineer: 100 total credits with 10 non-transferred

The total shortfall is 6 credits and the non-transferred shortfall is 8, giving a minimum additional requirement of 8.
Do not calculate 6 + 8 = 14 additional credits.
Adding 8 eligible non-transferred credits gives 108 total and 18 non-transferred credits.
The example recognition date 2026-09-30, planned recognition 2026-11-20, selected examination 2026-11-14 and review date 2026-11-30 are all fictional assumptions.
Until the additional recognition and major are verified, the plan must not be promoted to a currently recognized threshold candidate.

Two overlapping employment records

With confirmed related job A covering 2023-01-01 through 2024-12-31 and job B covering 2024-07-01 through 2025-12-31, the merged record is 2023-01-01 through 2025-12-31.
Its union includes the 2024 leap year and contains 1,096 days, with 184 overlap days removed.
It has 36 full calendar months and 0 residual days.
You cannot use time before Craftsman acquisition as part of a required three years after acquisition.
Entering the acquisition date clips the relevant route and changes its comparison.

Industrial Engineer credit and duration boundaries

For a confirmed related two-year prospective-graduate route, 40 total credits leaves 1 missing; 41 meets the credit threshold.
For the three-year route, 80 leaves 1 missing and 81 meets that threshold.
No separate 18-credit condition is added.
Reviewed post-acquisition experience of 11 months leaves 1 missing against a 12-month route.
At 12 months, the experience threshold is met while other evidence and related-field conditions still require review.

Interpreting statuses and readiness dates

Numerical candidate and planned threshold

A numerical candidate means current recorded thresholds and that route’s confirmation checks agree.
A planned threshold means projected recognized credits meet the requirements and the expected official recognition date is within the review date.
Before actual recognition, planned credits remain unconfirmed and are identified separately in the saved review.

Review, preparation and inapplicability

Unconfirmed education, major, documents or duration remain under review.
Missing quantities or status dates after the review date require further preparation.
Unrelated evidence or an education/program/qualification that does not fit a route makes that route inapplicable.
Inapplicability in one alternative does not automatically invalidate every other route.

Readiness dates show education-status, credit-recognition or qualification-acquisition dates.
An officially reviewed experience route shows the review date against which the cumulative months were entered; it does not invent a historical first-eligibility date.
These dates do not guarantee the earliest application or approval date.
The TXT preserves your selected examination, review date, deadline and confirmation states, making it easier to explain each date in a consultation.

Using the comparison for a career change or family-funded study

A college graduate returning to technical work

Before buying a degree-course package, gather the graduation certificate and career certificates describing actual duties.
Compare the related three-year college post-graduation route independently with the experience-only route.
A long total employment history can still include pre-graduation time, unrelated duties or gaps that change a specific route’s recognized duration.

A family funding Academic Credit Bank courses

Review recognized total and non-transferred credit deficits before comparing package prices.
An examination-eligibility route and a 140-credit bachelor-degree plan answer different decisions.
After using this tool to identify the eligibility shortfall, also use the existing degree time-and-cost calculator if completing the degree is a goal.
Avoid counting the same credits twice in the spending plan.

When changing to another qualification subject, first check related-field recognition.
Holding a qualification at the same or a higher grade does not provide a no-experience route to every Engineer or Industrial Engineer examination.
Reviewing the field and actual documents first can prevent purchasing unnecessary additional training.

Input tips and scope limits

  • Prepare career evidence listing organization, position and specific duties, rather than dates alone.
Enforcement Rule Article 14 specifies career and employment certificate evidence.
  • Completed employment and acquisition/recognition dates cannot be later than the records as-of date.
Future experience uses an open employment interval and explicit continuation assumption as a reference only.
Leave official-month fields empty when the review date is in the future.
  • The tool supports at most 20 career periods and a review plan no more than 10 years after the records date.
Plans for 2027 and later hold verified 2026 rules constant, so recheck future legislation, related job fields and announcements.
  • Foreign education or qualifications, military experience, part-time recognition, technical-training completion or expected completion, competition awards and service/special qualifications need individual review.
This ordinary-route screen does not decide those exceptions.

No market-average costs or automatically selected examination/deadline dates are supplied.
Use dates you checked for your own session.
Invalid dates or a non-transferred subset exceeding its total hide the comparison until corrected.
Records and downloaded content are handled inside the browser; raw career and credit records are not sent in analytics events.

Frequently asked questions

Do 106 credits qualify me regardless of my major?

The credit threshold and recognition of the related department or major need review together.
The total must also include the required 18 non-transferred credits.
The calculator does not recognize a major from the subject name alone.

Must I add 18 to 106 and obtain 124 credits?

The 18 non-transferred credits are included in the recognized total.
The minimum additional quantity is the larger of the total and subset shortfalls.
Verify actual major recognition and duplicate-credit exclusions against official evidence.

Do the 41/81-credit routes also require 18 non-transferred credits?

The annex attaches that 18-credit condition to the 106-credit prospective university-graduate route.
This calculator does not add it to the Industrial Engineer 41/81-credit routes.
Official recognition, a related major and applicability of the program still need confirmation.

Can I combine 81 credits and one year of work for the Engineer college route?

Do not mix prospective-graduate equivalence with the three-year college post-graduation experience route.
That Engineer route requires graduate-equivalent status and experience after graduation.
Ask Q-net to confirm actual graduation/equivalence and its applicable start date.

Does overlapping employment count twice?

The reference record counts each date once.
It shows the union and removed overlap days; unconfirmed-duty rows are not automatically added.
Compare the final duration with the authority’s reviewed quantity.

Why is an experience route still under review when calendar months seem enough?

Full calendar months organize ordinary employment dates as a reference.
They do not settle recognition of separated periods, residual days, duties or leave.
Enter cumulative months checked with Q-net for this review date and route start date, then verify career evidence to compare numerical candidates.

Should the review date match my selected CBT test?

For selectable written-test dates, Enforcement Rule Article 14(4) uses the session’s last written-test date.
It may differ from your selected day, so enter both separately.
Without a written test, check the practical/interview application deadline.

Does saving the review submit my official documents?

The TXT is a consultation and self-review note, not an official certificate or submission receipt.
Submit the required documents by the designated deadline and check processing status.
A numerical candidate still does not establish approval, passing or issuance.
