What does agricultural revenue insurance compare?
A similar harvest can produce less revenue when the market price falls.
A smaller harvest can also produce revenue above an insurance threshold when the applicable price rises.
Agricultural revenue insurance evaluates quantity and price together.
It does not automatically insure net profit after farming expenses or every won received from sales.
Korean jurisdiction and calculation scope
This calculator uses Korean 2026 contract rules and the ordinary past-revenue benefit verified in NH NongHyup H340110 terms, version 2609.
It reconciles one crop, one insured field and one insurance period using insurer-confirmed values.
It does not establish that every crop or region is eligible.
Special crop factors, endorsements, shared cover, reductions or policy termination require separate review and withhold this calculation.
Farmers and family members can use it to reconcile price and yield changes or advances against a final benefit.
Have the policy, loss assessment, official price notice and payment record ready so the figures refer to the same field and benefit.
The English experience uses the same pure calculation function as the Korean page.
Keep baseline revenue separate from the sum insured
Baseline revenue R
For ordinary past-revenue cover, baseline revenue uses the confirmed normal yield and applicable baseline price.
Choose the direct input mode if the insurer has confirmed the total amount.
Do not enter per-area revenue, net profit or a premium in this field.
Policy sum insured S
This is the contractual amount used to calculate the benefit.
Use the amended policy amount if the contract changed.
General Article 8 of the 2609 terms derives it from insured yield and baseline price, truncated to KRW 1,000 increments.
The tool asks for the actual policy amount separately.
These amounts can differ because of truncation, contract changes or the confirmed normal yield.
Treating them as identical can overstate a reconciliation.
When the sum insured is smaller than baseline revenue, the payout for a given revenue shortfall is scaled by that ratio.
Per-10a yield and total quantity
10a equals 1,000 m².
Yield mode calculates total baseline revenue as normal yield in kg/10a × area in m² ÷ 1,000 × baseline price in KRW/kg.
A 4,000 m² field has four 10a units: 2,500 kg/10a becomes 10,000 kg in total.
If your document gives total kg, divide by the area factor before entering kg/10a, or enter the insurer-confirmed total baseline revenue directly.
Do not substitute a simple average of your own recent harvests for the assessed normal yield.
The applicable terms and insurer’s assessment procedures use insured history, standard yield, planting and field conditions.
Area in direct-revenue mode records the insured scope; it is not multiplied into an already total amount.
Assessed revenue includes excluded yield loss
Assessed harvest Q and excluded yield U
Enter the final harvested quantity for the entire insured field in kg.
Excluded yield loss is quantity that the assessment attributes to causes outside the covered loss.
Insurance-assessed revenue adds this quantity to the assessed harvest before multiplying by the harvest price.
Do not subtract excluded yield or add it twice if your supplied quantity already combines the two.
Adding excluded yield keeps losses from uninsured causes out of the covered revenue loss.
Its imputed revenue is not money received from a sale.
Assessed revenue can therefore exceed cash sales without being a calculation error.
A confirmed excluded yield of zero is different from an amount that has not yet been assessed.
Applicable harvest price p
Use the final price applicable under the crop’s price clause and the Agricultural Policy Insurance & Finance Service notice.
Annex 5 of the 2026 guideline distinguishes crop, variety, growing season, principal shipment period and distribution costs.
Rice prices based on local NH rice-processing-center purchases differ from crops that use market statistics.
Do not replace the applicable price with online retail prices, one auction transaction or your individual supply-contract price.
Where quality, pests, varieties or area-weighted factors matter, obtain the final assessed inputs with those rules correctly reflected.
This calculator does not estimate crop damage from photographs or determine grades and pest losses.
Leave the final-value confirmation unchecked while a price notice or quantity verification remains pending.
Past-revenue formula and product boundaries
Five calculation steps
- Confirm baseline revenue R and policy sum insured S separately.
- Guaranteed-revenue threshold G = R × coverage rate ÷ 100.
- Insurance-assessed revenue I = (harvested quantity Q + excluded yield U) × harvest price p.
- Positive revenue shortfall D = max(0, G − I).
- Gross past-revenue payout candidate P = S × D ÷ R.
This rearranges the terms’ sum insured × (loss ratio − deductible ratio).
The loss ratio is (baseline revenue − assessed revenue) ÷ baseline revenue and must strictly exceed the deductible ratio.
Coverage is 100% minus the deductible: 80% coverage corresponds to a 20% deductible.
It does not mean receiving 80% of the premium back.
Expected-revenue and actual-receipt products
Expected-revenue products reflect price increases in baseline revenue and have additional conditions, including a 1.5-times-baseline-price limit and recalculated-normal-yield treatment in the 2609 terms.
Actual-receipt products require contractual evidence such as the individual farm’s receipts.
Selecting either product withholds the amount here.
Do not add forecast price increases or personal sale-price differences to the past-revenue result.
Use the calculator with your documents
- Year and field: Confirm a 2026 contract, ordinary past-revenue product, crop, region and insured field area.
The guideline’s minimum area is 1,000 m²; eligible regions and sales periods vary by crop. - Baseline and insured amount: Enter confirmed total baseline revenue or calculate it from confirmed kg/10a, area and price.
Copy the sum insured separately from the policy. - Policy coverage: Select the actual 60%, 70%, 80% or 85% rate.
Confirm additional 85% conditions and applicable restrictions. - Assessment and advances: Enter harvested quantity, excluded yield, final applicable price and prior payments for the same revenue benefit.
Confirm that no termination or special adjustment applies. - Next action: Distinguish the gross benefit from the remaining payment, save the worksheet, and ask the insurer or local NH office to verify final amounts and rounding.
The 85% option requires the relevant participation conditions and crop eligibility under the 2026 guideline, such as yield reporting, combined-field enrollment, supply-stability programs or rice-area reduction.
It is not available to every farmer automatically.
A five-year cumulative loss ratio of at least 500% restricts selection of 80% or higher cover for products whose sales begin from July 2026.
Ask the enrolling NH office whether your contract falls within that restriction.
Worked examples with fictional quantities
The following figures illustrate the arithmetic rather than an individual entitlement.
4,000 m² × 2,500 kg/10a ÷ 1,000 × KRW 3,500/kg gives baseline revenue of KRW 35,000,000.
At the same sum insured and 80% coverage, the guaranteed threshold is KRW 28,000,000.
Hold harvested quantity at 6,000 kg and harvest price at KRW 2,500/kg while changing excluded yield and sum insured.
| Scenario | Excluded yield | Assessed revenue | Gross candidate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sum insured: KRW 35,000,000 | 0 kg | KRW 15,000,000 | KRW 13,000,000 |
| ★ Example: same insured amount | 500 kg | KRW 16,250,000 | KRW 11,750,000 |
| Only sum insured changes to KRW 28,000,000 | 500 kg | KRW 16,250,000 | KRW 9,400,000 |
Why the amounts differ
Adding 500 kg of excluded yield raises assessed revenue by KRW 1,250,000, reducing the shortfall.
The third row leaves baseline revenue at KRW 35,000,000 and changes only the sum insured, so it multiplies the shortfall by 28,000,000 ÷ 35,000,000.
Using the simple KRW 11,750,000 shortfall as the payout would be incorrect in that scenario.
Price and yield thresholds indicate benefit onset
Price at current quantities
Divide the guaranteed threshold by harvested quantity plus excluded yield.
In the example, KRW 28,000,000 ÷ 6,500 kg is approximately KRW 4,307.692308/kg.
A positive gross benefit requires a strictly lower price with other inputs fixed; equality gives zero.
Harvested quantity at current price
Divide the guaranteed threshold by harvest price and subtract excluded yield.
The example gives 28,000,000 ÷ 2,500 − 500 = 10,700 kg.
The confirmed harvested quantity must be strictly below that value for a positive gross benefit.
These thresholds are not forecasts or farm-profit break-even points that account for costs.
They describe a gross payout before advances, so a positive gross amount can still leave no additional payment.
If price and quantity both change, update both inputs instead of applying the original threshold unchanged.
Zero assessed quantity has no finite price threshold; zero applicable price has no finite quantity threshold.
If excluded yield alone reaches the guaranteed threshold, no harvested quantity, including zero, produces a benefit at that price.
The calculator explains these cases separately.
It compares values before rounding and displays thresholds to six decimal places.
Separate gross benefits from remaining payments
Advance-payment reconciliation
A KRW 11,750,000 gross candidate minus KRW 2,000,000 already paid for the same revenue benefit leaves KRW 9,750,000.
General Article 7 of the 2609 terms addresses advances before final benefit determination.
This tool reconciles an amount already received; it does not decide advance eligibility, payment timing or final claim approval.
Do not combine replanting, reseeding, cultivation-failure or harvest-failure payments into the prior-payment field.
Some benefits terminate the field’s contract, so first verify whether any revenue-reduction benefit remains available.
Neither subtracting unrelated benefits to force a zero result nor ignoring termination to show an additional payment is appropriate.
When prior payments exceed the gross candidate, the remaining amount is zero and the excess is shown separately for review.
It is not a repayment determination.
Check mixed benefits, fields, seasons and special settlement conditions with the insurer.
Displayed amounts are rounded to whole KRW for reference; actual payment rounding follows the insurer’s rules.
Practical scenarios and reasons to withhold results
Similar yield, falling price
Use the confirmed harvest price and assessment to compare revenue with the guaranteed threshold.
If your personal sales price is much lower, ask why it differs from the applicable official price.
Do not interpret the result as cover for every sales loss.
Smaller harvest, rising price
In past-revenue cover, a rising applicable price can increase assessed revenue and reduce the payout despite yield loss.
Verify the policy type instead of borrowing the expected-revenue product’s price-uplift rule.
- Wait for final price notices and assessed harvested and excluded quantities.
- Review other years, expected-revenue or actual-receipt products, and areas below 1,000 m² separately.
- Crop-quality and pest factors, endorsements, combined-field assessments, shared cover and termination cannot be resolved by the ordinary formula alone.
- The coverage table compares arithmetic only.
It does not assume identical eligibility, premiums or public subsidies and does not recommend a product.
This calculator does not price premiums, central or local subsidies, or next-year premium changes.
Obtain current eligibility and quotes from the insurer and local NH office.
The KRW 1 trillion, 100 million quantity or price, and four-decimal limits are technical input bounds, not statutory coverage limits.
Frequently asked questions
Can a payout arise without a smaller harvest?
A covered price decline can bring assessed revenue below the guaranteed threshold and produce a positive candidate.
Confirm the policy type, final applicable price and any exclusions first.
Can I use my personal selling price?
Use the final applicable harvest price under this past-revenue contract.
Supply and retail prices can differ from the official price; actual-receipt products require separate evidence and formulas.
Why is excluded yield added to revenue?
It prevents yield loss from uninsured causes from entering the covered loss.
The revenue is imputed rather than received.
Use confirmed assessed quantity and avoid counting it twice.
What if baseline revenue and sum insured differ?
The ordinary formula is sum insured × positive revenue shortfall ÷ baseline revenue.
Only equal amounts make the payout identical to the shortfall; reconcile both with your policy and assessment.
Is 85% coverage available to everyone?
The 2026 participation and crop requirements must be verified at enrollment.
Check the 500% five-year loss-ratio restriction on 80% or higher cover for the applicable crop and sales date.
An 85% comparison row is not an underwriting approval.
Do cultivation-failure payments count as advances?
Enter only prior payments for the same revenue-reduction benefit.
Other benefits require review of termination and their relationship to revenue cover; leave the no-adjustment confirmation unchecked.
How does an unconfirmed result differ from zero?
Unconfirmed inputs withhold the amount.
Confirmed assessed revenue at or above the threshold gives a zero gross benefit, while advances can make only the remaining payment zero.
Unknown values are not assumed to be zero.
What if I disagree with the assessment?
Article 11-8 of the Agricultural and Fishery Disaster Insurance Act provides for reassessment and subsequent objections.
Prepare evidence for quantities, prices and crop factors along with the worksheet, and ask the insurer about the process.
A calculator result does not amend an assessment or approve a claim.
